Shin splints
OK, running friends. Shin splints and what to do about them. Go!

Ran for the first time this August...
Ran for the first time this August (been doing elliptical because it's just been too darn hot to run) and did 2.5 miles in 27 minutes, or a pace of about 10.8 miles. Would work out to about a 33:30 if I were to stay at that pace for a 5K. Not bad, but definitely need to improve!

No carbs?
One of my friends and I have been trading info back and forth on Facebook regarding our diets, etc. She recently made two suggestions to me, the first of which I found interesting, but also extremely hard to do on a consistent, long-term basis while remaining healthy. Here are her suggestions. Any thoughts on either would…

5K in September
I did a 5K last month and finished in 37:30, which was a real accomplishment to me. I have another one I'm doing at the end of September and i think I can cut my time close to 30 by then. It won't be easy, but it's the goal.

Pretty Frustrated...
I was showing some decent progress for a while, but as soon as I got below 260 (hit 259 around the end of June), it stopped and I've been hovering somewhere between 259 and 262 ever since. And I'm working my tail off. I literally saturate my shirts with sweat so they are dripping when I finish a workout. I'm doing a system…

One of these songs just doesn't belong here...
Ok, everyone has that one guilty pleasure song when they are working out/running/etc. that gets them going. It's that song that normally you wouldn't associate with the rest of the songs on your playlist. For me, among the multiple hard rock/metal artists like Metallica, Slipknot, Disturbed, All That Remains, Killswitch…

Heat...
So I've heard varying opinions on this and I want to know if anyone here can offer any evidence one way or another as to whether or not you burn more calories working out in the heat ?

Calories burned through lifting
I always feel like I am burning more than my reports show. I am doing a 5-day a week program that requires weight training three days a week that essentially goes like this: Monday - Lower body at the gym (followed by 20 minute run) Tuesday - Cardio (Either a run or 40 minutes on a stationary bike) Wednesday - Rest…

5K success
Not sure if this is really what they consider a "success story" but I ran a 5K (actually it was 5.2 miles according to my MapMyRun app) for the first time in a while and managed to pull off a time of 37:30. Considering I still weigh just a shade under 260 and it was 90 degrees, I'm pretty happy with pulling off a 11:45…

Chicken
I love chicken because there's so much you can do with it. Right now I'm looking for some new recipes that are good for grilling. Anyone have any suggestions? Also, feel free to add me. Thanks!

Milestones...
Reached a couple of milestones this week. Got down below 260 for the first time in a long, long time and lost 15 pounds since January. It's been a slow, but steady progression and I'm pretty proud of what I've been able to accomplish thus far.

Weight loss
Was just wondering if anyone had any good literature on foods that can help encourage weight loss. Not even sure...do they exist or is it all about moderation?

Steak marinade?
I'm getting ready to cook a steak. Shopped around, got myself a nice, lean cut of meat. But I'm not sure how I should enter it in my diary. You see, I marinated the steak in Berkshire Brewing Company's Coffeehouse Porter. BBC has no nutritional info on their beers and I wouldn't know how much to calculate I consumed…
