So I've heard varying opinions on this and I want to know if anyone here can offer any evidence one way or another as to whether or not you burn more calories working out in the heat ?

Yes you do. My normal run is 70 minutes including a 5 minute warm up and cool down. On a normal weather day I will burn about 700 calories doing this run. Last couple of weeks of heat and humidity, I cut 10-15 minutes off my run and was burning close to 800.

Increasing your activity levels or being in a hot environment will increase your core temperature. However, your body's responses to this higher core temperature will not result in using significantly more calories. Some sauna manufacturers, for example, claim that saunas will burn calories by increasing your circulation; your body actually increases circulation by relaxing the muscles surrounding the blood vessels rather than by increasing your heart rate. Exercising in extreme heat can result in weight loss, but it is water weight loss and not the result of calories burned. (best answer I could find)

HOW DO YOU PROVE THIS? GOOGLE MAYBE ? ASK SOMEONE WHO KNOWS NOT PEOPLE ON MFP WHO THINK THEY KNOW

wgpjim, my proof, I meant any links to scientific ore medical journals, etc. I know that some people on here do study exercise science and they would be the ones who could point me in the direction of the information I need. Just because it's on google doesn't mean it's true either.
