Feel free to add me if you would like. I currently live in Hastings, NE but am originally from Iowa. I have been using MFP for over a year now. It has helped. I just started over after being off MFP for about 3-5 months when I moved to NE.

Are you doing any stretches prior to your running? Shin splints a lot of time is caused by your tibialis anterior muscle and you might just need to stretch it out. Try this link for some stretching ideas. http://walking.about.com/od/stretching/a/shinstretch.htm It also helps to ice after running to help decrease the pain.…

My profile name is one I came up with when I started internet dating as a way to describe myself. I am a physical therapist (PT), a girl and I think I am pretty sweet so I put them together as sweetptgrl. It is just something different then just using my email address and easy to remember. If you are having a lot of trouble, see if your MD will refer you to a Diabetes Educator. Part of their job is to help you with the medications, food and exercise that affect your blood sugar levels. My bf is a diabetes educator and he would love it if more of his patients wanted to exercise and understand how it affects…

I too have asthma and I use my inhaler prior to all my workouts. I try to take more frequent water breaks because that helps calm me down. If you are really worried, try swimming. There is something about the breathing patterns with swimming that is easier to control/manage your asthma. The best thing to do is pace…

I met my boyfriend of 2.3 years on match.com. Things are going great and we now live together after doing the long distance things for almost 2 years. I dated two other people off of match but they only really lasted for 2 dates. I guess third times a charm for me. Both my boss and one of my co-workers met their respective…

Great Job and Happy Birthday to you.

I agree. I love my bodymedia and it is so nice to be able to see everything it measures. My only dislike is when it comes to exercising, my heart rate monitor might say I have burned about 300 calories, while my bodymedia doesn't seem to measure it all. It is nice to see how well I sleep at night. Most people don't realize…

I just got EA Sports Active 2 for Wii and it was about $22 at Wal-Mart. I love it more than the Wii Fit Plus for burning calories. I also use Just Dance 2 and 3 and have Gold's Gym (which I don't use too often because for some reason my controllers don't seem to respond the way they should).

I use the BareMinerals Matte foundation but only really put 2 brushes of it on. I start with the bisque concealer over my red areas and then use one brush of foundation from forehead to nose and another brush of foundation from nose to check. I think that going lighter makes for a more natural look and you don't get that…

My SO and I work out together and really enjoy it. Our problem is he is trying to put on weight while I am trying to lose weight. He is really big into nutrition and eating healthy while I eat what I enjoy and try to keep my total calories within my limit. If I want ice cream, I just work out a little more. He is very…

I have Just Dance 2 and 3 and really love them. They get my HR up a lot higher than some of the activities I do on the Wii Fit Plus exercises. I use my HRM and log it under Just Dance that I created so I can keep track of exactly what I am doing. Thinking about Zumba but not sure how much I would use it compared to what I…

Icing is not going to hurt you as long as you are only icing for 10-15 minutes. It will keep any inflammation down that might develop at a later time after your run. Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Free Calorie Counter

Hey everyone. I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, went to Wartburg in Waverly for a year and then transferred to St. Ambrose in Davenport. After I graduated, I moved back to Cedar Rapids. I would have to say ISU but only for when they play U of I. Otherwise, I don't really care because I just cheer for an Iowa team.…

Sometimes you have to eat more then what you think you should. If you eat too little, your body stores everything vs burning calories. Also, have you tried taking measurements? Sometimes you don't loose weight because you are actually gaining muscle (it weights more). Try taking waist, hip and neck measurements and…

Current job: Facility Manager and Physical Therapist in an outpatient orthopedics setting. I also coordinate student placement for clinicals Dream job: I love what I do but would appreciated it if insurance companys would stop raising the copay price or dictating number of visits. As a physical therapist my reccomendation would be to try an over the counter knee brace and see if it helps. If it doesn't, then I would either try to see a physical therapist who does injury evaluations or your doctor. Make sure that you can see your toes when you do any squatting so that you don't put increased strain…

As a physical therapist I treat a number of patients with plantar fasciitis. The best way to get rid of it, like a number of people have said, it to stretch. What also helps is to freeze a bottle of water and then roll your foot over the ice for 3-5 minutes. This helps with the inflammation and also stretches out the…

I work out at home with my boyfriend. It helps to keep us both motivated and I can help spot him if needed. He does heavier weights so needs a spot while I don't do as much with bench press or military press to need him to spot me. It is also nice because we can talk about different exercises to try or I can correct his…

I enjoy classical music and was able to find on iTunes a cd called classical cardio which has the music with a fast techno-ish beat. It helps keep me going with a fast beat. It even tells you what the bpm are.

You could potentially have some hip bursitis or an IT Band problem. Does your hip bother you at any other time?

I'm a physical therapist and I would recommend that you go see if you can get an injury screen from a physical therapist to look at your foot mechanics while you run. You could be twisting your foot or rolling in while you run, which is causing your pain.

Congratulations hotmamasoon on hitting your goal. That is wonderful. I have found this site helpful so far and hope it continues to be something I use.
