I used to be that way (and in some situations I still struggle with that), but as someone had a quote to the effect that we'd actually be surprised to find out how little time other people spend thinking about us. Just think of yourself.......how much do you think of people you see out and about? Anyway, they are strangers…

I started running at 46. I'm no speed demon and I can only do 5Ks so far, but I did it at first to prove to myself that I could do it. Good luck!

No, but we did modify our office clerk's work station.... she was worried because she sits all day (so do I)... but we moved her station to a higher counter/desk with a stool-like chair and she can sit/stand at will... she can stand and work on her computer. Now I need the same set up (and I'm one of the business owners!)

I can only speak for myself, but I will only lose weight if I do NOT eat back my workout calories and if I keep a calorie deficit every day. My usual calorie goal is 1343 - if I don't exercise, I TRY (being the operative word) to not exceed 1400 calories. If I work out , I try to have at least a 150-200 calorie deficit (my…

Same here.... not so much losing weight as constantly thinking about what I'm eating and am I getting in my exercise. I've been logging on here for over 800 days straight, so it's been a mini-obsession for me. But I truly think I'd be worse-off if I wasn't obsessed.

Yes...I agree.... Years ago I started to exercise regularly at a gym for women here in the U.S. that was quite popular - Curves. I was very upset that after several months I didn't lose any weight. Then, I started Weight Watchers and learned (yes, I had to "learn" this) that I was eating too much. It took a while, but in a…

I can't really workout at home either ... or in the evening. I have to go to the gym at between 4:30 and 5 in the morning. If I workout at home, sometimes my daughter will wake up early or worse - my dog goes crazy and keeps interrupting. In the evening after work, dinner cleanup, homework, - there's no time and still the…

I am waiting for Carol and Darryl to get together again!:blushing:

Loved the last line.... Rick to Carl when the knock at the door came...."It's for you!"

<----This is Ginger, a 2-year old Lab mix, she's a wonderful, fun, dog. We also have a 14 year-old (ish) Dachshund, who doesn't really do anything (but eat).

Preaching to the choir! I think a lot of people are in denial. They just don't realize how much they are eating. I remember years ago when I first joined Weight Watchers, I couldn't believe how many points one little piece of brownie was! I actually cried. I had no idea how much I was eating until I had to track it all.…

Well, I'm not a scientist or nutritionist or a fitness expert, but I know what usually works for me. If I watch my calorie intake, and exercise regularly (4-5 week) I will lose weight. If I intake too many calories (even if I'm exercising regularly) I won't lose weight. If I can't get in exercise for a stretch of time, but…

1, I've "affectionately" been called "Big Girl"...used like a term of endearmeant - like "dear", or "sweetie"; 2. Being asked (1 time) if I was pregnant; 3. My college roommate, upon seeing her after about 12 years later (and 1 kid later)..."you've gained weight!" 4. Being handed weight-loss flyers by those annoying people…

I have plantar fascitiis and a heel bone spur. I started having problems after I started running (at the ripe old age of 46). I had to take a break from running - I saw a podiatrist and got some great inserts for my running shoes. I've since started running again, but I don't run 2 days in a row any more. I also walk on an…

Read and / or drink wine (wine only the weekends. Whine..... all the time!)

I go to the gym between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. -it's the only time I can go. Most days, I don't eat beforehand, but that's because I don't feel like it or I don't have time (or I don't think about it). But, for the short time that I had a personal trainer, he did recommend that I eat something before working out - preferably…

2 lbs. in one week is great! That's actually the recommended way to go - slow and steady wins the race!

Well, sometimes I do.....but I've notice more that I'm a cranky pants when I don't exercise. I usually exercise in the morning, but if I miss my workout, I feel bleh!

My goal is to exercise harder - I think I can get more out of my 20 minute stairmaster workout if I do "intervals" and more out of my 40 minute treadmill jogging if I do "sprints" than if I just add on more minutes at the same pace. My time at the gym is limited, so I want to get more out of each minute I have there.

Congratulations! You are amazing! I love this site too - it's the logging that keeps me honest - to myself (I have a closed food diary). You are a wonderful example of what hard work and dedication can achieve!
-
I have logged in for over 700 days. Most days, i complete my food diary. I notice, however, when I go a few days without complete logging, I end up gaining. I can trust my judement for a while, but then I end up underestimating what I am eating. There are many studies that show that keeping a food journal or diary is one…

Wow, truly inspirational! Great that you started so young - you have so much of your life ahead of you. You are right, just making simple (but not always easy) choices is the key, especially if you are in this for the long-haul! I really like how your hubby ended up losing weight based on your changes in cooking, etc.…

Me too!

I agree! If I forget my MP3 player to the gym, I DREAD the treadmill or any of the cardio machines. The music makes the time go by so much faster and yes, I'm not constantly "panel watching" -- the time, the distance, the calories burned, etc. I play a little mind game with myself - I only look at the panel or my heart…

I've had the same issue for literally over a year..... how old are you? As we get older, our metabolism slows down quite a bit. I'm almost 48, and if I didn't count calories and exercise fairly consistently, I'd be gaining. I did read an article though, a long time ago, that our bodies do have a natural "resting" place, so…

I know how important that band concert was to your son...my son is a sophomore in high school and is in band also. The only thing I would add (and only because I've seen it said many times in an advice column I read) is that when there are issues with in-laws, it might be best to have your husband talk to them about the…

Well, I did so-so on the food, but I did pretty well on exercise. I did the local Turkey Trot (5k) on Thanksgiving morning, then I took a Body Pump class on Saturday morning - still feeling that one today LOL. Then yesterday I walked/ran almost 4 miles with my dog (and got stung by a bee in the process - another LOL). For…

The Good Wife Person of Interest Walking Dead Breaking Bad (bye-bye) The Middle Big Bang Theory (my guilty pleasure) White Collar (good-looking leading men)

I loved the class! Trying to take more, but they aren't offered at convenient times for me! I really felt the "pain" 2 days after---could barely move! Strength - training is my weakest area, so this class was hard (physically) for me, but fun!

Congrats to you! You have totally changed your life around - not just your weight or appearance, but your way of life, too. That is so amazing!
