  • Good for you! It's great that you are transforming your habits while you are young...... :drinker: Here's to you and many, many, many years of good health and healthy habits! You are very inspirational!
  • I don't have a lot of weight to lose (constantly battling the last 10 pounds) but my motivation for me was the same as yours: my kids. I'm an older mom - I had my youngest, my daughter, at age 38 and she's now 10. I wanted to be able to keep up with her (and my son, who's 16). I'm 48, I track my food everyday and I have…
  • Usuallly I see posts with the roles reveresed - it's the husband that thinks the wife needs to lose weight, but then doesn't support her when she starts working at it. I think in your case - it might be that things are a little overwhelming for your wife right now. You have a small child and another on the way? Maybe your…
  • Alan Alda will always be #1 for me...then Pierce Bronsan and (yes, even though he's way younger than me) Matt Bomer. Come to tink of it, they all kind of look alike, don't then....tall and dark-haired...hmmmmm, interesting.:smooched:
  • Dogs are great exercise companions! Good for you!! And especially good that you've started this healthy lifestyle while you are so young! I wish you a long, healthy and happy life!
  • Supposedly for women, the number for the waist shouldn't exceed 34 inches for the whole "unhealthy stomach fat" that can affect organs, etc. I am right at 34 inches for my waist, just at the "acceptable" # for BMI and just at the acceptable # for body fat % and within my range (on the higher end) for weight for my age,…
  • Good luck to you! It will be so much fun and you will feel such a sense of accomplishment! I ran (ok, jogged really slow) my 1st 5k 2 years ago at the ripe old age of 46 and I loved it! This Sunday, my 10-year old daughter is going jog with me at a Girls on the Go 5k! I'm so excited because we are doing something ACTIVE…
  • Hang in there! You are just stressed out - life happens, don't forget. We have to figure out how we are going to react to "life happening". I'm the same way sometimes. But then the next day I pick myself up and try to get back on track. Maybe if you just tried to get through each day it won't seem so overwhelming. That's…
  • I saw someone posted that they treated working out (or going to the gym) as a job. No matter how they felt (unless they were really ill) they went. - I like to challenge myself. I've been trying to see what's the longest streak of "intentional exercise" (i.e.,, not housecleaning or doing chores, etc.) I can do. I got to 9…
  • Well, all I can say about Subway is, that I don't like it very much, but my family does so from time-to-time we do get sandwiches there. I just have to say that to me, the sandwiches are like air - don't have much flavor. One time I ordered a Subway Club that is supposed to have ham, turkey and roast beef on it. They put…
  • Sometimes I chew sugarless gum to keep my mouth busy. Sounds silly, but it keeps me from mindlessly snacking (I do that when I go to the movies, so I won't be tempted to eat the popcorn).
  • Well, over the last week and a half, I exercised intentionally (not doing "cleaning", etc.) 9 days in a row...I only broke my streak because my daughter was up sick during the night and I could go to the gym the next morning.
  • For muscles and "other" problems, I take 400mg of magnesium glycinate (it's supposed to be more absorbable). I just take 1 tablet every night (it says to take 2 daily, but I find one is just right for me). It's helped me so much! I had to buy it online, the brand is KAL.
  • My portion for pasta is 2oz uncooked or 5oz cooked. [/quote] Thank you! I could never figure out how much a COOKED serving of pasta should be... and I just do not have the time or space to measure out my 2 oz of dry pasta and cook it separately from the whole pot. This was the most useful piece of information I have found…
  • My husband is from Mexico and when we eat out, we mostly go to a Mexican restaurant. I skip the rice side dish (I'm not a big fan of rice, anyway, and I rather save those calories) and I ask for frijoles de la olla instead of refried beans (boiled pinto beans instead of refried...yummy, plus I make pinto beans at home…
  • Congrats to you! I also completed 1,000 days of logging in recently...it is truly just a part of my life now! Here's to you! :flowerforyou:
  • I have actually thought of going to bed in my workout clothes so there would be one less thing to do in the morning. Short of that, I make sure I have EVERYTHING ready the night before...down to my keys..water is in the fridge, my little fanny pack I take is ready. My shoes are even untied- clothes are ready to go, coffee…
  • I would tell you take it one day at a time and maybe focus on one aspect at a time (like cutting back on soda, or logging food - even if you are eating poorly)... just take baby-steps until they start to accumulate.
  • My gym has a lot of them, but in the classroom....I use them alot when I take the Body Pump class. When I was looking at purchasing the program for home, though, the program doesn't come with the 2.5 plates...lowest is 5 lbs. I'm a newbie and don't want to hurt my back, so I would really like the 2.5 lbs.
  • I'm about 5'5-1/2" and I would LOVE to be 145! Stuck around 152
  • I read the same article and pretty much had the same thoughts.
  • Many years ago (after my 10 year old daughter was born) I joined WW and in a year I lost 30 pounds. However, when I reached goal, the leaders warned me that it might be hard to maintain that number given my height, age, etc. And they were right. Adding to it was that I never participated as a "Lifetime Memeber" and I think…
  • I sort of have the same problem, maybe not to the same degree as you. I am try to eat healthier, but for me, it's all about portion control. Because I have to cook for me, my hubby and 2 kids, I try to cook healthy, but things I know they will eat. As for exercise, I just can't get it in at the end of the day, after work.…
  • I'm about 20 pages away from finishing One Day by David Nicholls....sadder than I thought it would be. Before that I read Little Big Lies by Liane Moriarty...I've read almos all of her books and they are great!
  • My husband is a little bit the same way. He's not obese, but he's gained a little weight in the last few years. We work together and he wants to go to lunch (with me) every day! So, I careful chose what I'll eat at each place, or if I have something at the office with me I will politely turn him down. He'll always say,…
  • Sort of..... I've dropped things and then stumbled about while I tried to stop the treadmill to retrieve my items....
  • I can't skip coffee either. I have to have a cup in the morning before I go to the gym at 4:30. I use Fat Free French Vanilla creamer (Carnation) and it's only 25 calories a serving. I log it (and measure it) because I don't like black coffee. I just make room for the creamer in my diary. I don't want to eliminate…
  • That's great! It's so nice to see you, a very young person, making this lifestyle change now. Many of us don't realize how important it is to take care of yourself until we are older. You are so inspirational - and a great role model for other young people! Kudos to you! :flowerforyou:
  • I would listen to all of the advise you've been given, but I just wanted to give you my support. My kids are big now (10 and 16) but that first year is HELL! I worked too and sleep was an issue. So to make it easier for you, maybe just get some fruits and veggies that don't need prepping...apples, grapes, bananas. Pre-cut…
