  • I don't reply too much but had to add here since I love this store! For a dessert treat, the turbinado sea salt almonds are amazing. They are dark chocolate adn salty at the same time, so good. A serving is 13 nuts so you can savor them. I like the organic black bean soup for lunch. Also the low sodium minestrone. It's a…
  • I really like Jeff Galloways plans, they are longer in weeks, but only 3 days of running. I am training for my second half, following his half marathon plan for distance runners. I run 3 times a week. I work full time 3 days a week, 12 hour shifts, so it can be difficult to run on those days. I did the top one for my first…
  • Husband and I have 610 and we both love them. We saved up and bought them with our tax refund. Well worth the money. I used to use runkeeper and my phone but wanted the hr function. The GPS is an added bonus! He also bought me a footpod but I haven't synced it yet. I did see a groupon a while back for the Garmin, 410, I…
  • Shoes, shoes, shoes! Myself, husband, many friends- shin splits Disappear when wearing properly fitted shoes. I am not even kidding.
  • I wear one of those breathable running hats.. mine are both from Brooks... They are vented to keep your head cool but protect it from the sun. I pull my ponytail/braid out the back.
  • Make sure you go up a size, too. That makes all the difference in the world. And I think its why my sister lost 3 toenails training and I lost none. My last favorites were Saucony.. but the new model changed and didn't work, so last time I got fitted, I went with asics. It was between a pair of those and a pair of brooks.…

  • craigslist for our stuff. we have only been doing it a few weeks (and took last week off on vacation). We have a bench and adjustable rack.. we will get squat cage eventually. the stuff from craigslist we got was under 200 bucks and it was a ton of stuff!
  • So many different ways to do this. I have baked before but I thought they tasted different. might have been a mental thing. Cooks magazine suggests this: eggs in pan, cover with cold water so the water is 1 inch above. bring to a boil. remove from heat, cover, sit for 10 minutes. then dunk in ice bath for 5 minutes. i did…
  • I work 12 hour shifts an RN, with the same issues. First, I NEVER spend any money at work. No vending machines, no cafeteria- I do not bring money. That saves me a ton of junk eating. Somethings I pack for my day- cut up oranges, bags of mini carrots, light string cheese, fruit, greek yogurt, hard boiled eggs, salads in a…
  • We used jeff galloways running plan in the sense that we did the distances he recommended. But I didn't walk as much as he said to... That said, when I did my first half, I allowed myself to walk at every water station. That was PERFECT. It forced me to takea break, not choke on my water, and it really invigorated me. I…
  • This is exactly what happens to me. I have gone in the woods, behind bushes.. seriously, it's horrible. I usually run around a park by my house so if I have to go, the bathrooms are never that far. I worry bad about my long runs. I tried to go before my half marathon and couldn't.. ended up in the porta potty line at Mile…
  • This really made me smile today and improved my moood!
  • I wear a thong or else running shorts with the built in undies!
  • I am doing stronglifts 5x5 too. Can't be much simpler!
  • I do my short distances alone. My husband and i train together, sort of- he is a lot faster so his "slow relaxing runs" are me busting my butt! But sometimes we do a trail or run in the evening nice and slow together, talking.. For long runs, I map mine out. Use my garmin or you can use mapmyrun. Sometimes me and him will…
  • This is why we bought home gym stuff off craigslist, my husband hates crowds adn we were procrastinating on starting 5x5 because we couldn't get to the gym. We started all the weight with the45 lb bar, just like it says. My husband is a lot stronger than me and he is moving up faster, but we are both making progress.…
  • when I do my long runs- definitely water- we have water belts although I want a backpack or vest. garmin hr monitor with gps phone for music, with my wireless headphones hat- if its drizzly or super sunny- I have two running hats and I love them! toilet paper wad stuffed in my pocket- trust me, this has been necessary many…
  • I agree, you are definitely ready for the 5K! I just have bad running days sometimes. I just ran a half in March, trained for months, and I have still been running..b ut yesterday, I could barely do 2 miles, I just felt "off." Some days are like that. For me, hydration does make a big difference. Also, if I walk, I walk.…
  • Husband and I (we work out together!) are doing stronglifts 5x5. we just finished our first half in march and are just running 2-3 times a week now with the stronglifts, BUT we are about to start trainign next week for our second half. To be honest, I have no clue how its gonna play out but I see no reason why we can't do…
  • I am sure you will get a ton of different opinions. My husband and I just started stronglifts 5x5, its easy to follow and great for a beginner. There are a ton of videos online you can watch to work on your form. You might need some help, since its not machines, but it really is simple and i am making great progress. good…
  • Pretty new to this, I think we are on day 6. My squats, bench, and deadlift are going up like they are supposed to. But I had to start lower at overhead press. i just now got to 45 for that. Also, our ceiling is low too, and I am tall, so with no weights I am fine, but with weights on the end of the bar, i hit through the…
  • My BIL does super heavy lifting (he competes in strong man) and he wore Converse or he wears his weight lifting shoes. We started heavy lifting and we do it barefoot, but its in our own house. I know running shoes are NOT the way to go.
  • I agree on going to a running store. If you are running a lot, its worth the investment. I had shin splints a few years ago- the first day I wore my new shoes from a running store, my shin splints went away. Same thing for my husband. We were not wearing the right shoes. Don't be scared of the price, either, because a good…
  • I loved reading these! I am jealous of some of the nice locations you are running, near mountains, etc. I run in my neighborhood around a big lake/park. There are always TONS Of runners/walkers. The one time it was pretty empty was immediately after a lightening storm a month ago. I sometimes see guys running in gas masks-…
  • I need to read that link. But I do know you should slow your pace down by at least a minute in the heat. It might be hard, but its worth it to get your miles in.
  • Just do it! Don't be afraid to pace yourself, ignore the people passing you. I just ran my first and made a deal I would walk at every water station. This got me through the race just fine. It's very exciting! I finished in 2 hours 33 minutes, which included me having to stop at mile 4 and wait for the bathroom. Next time,…
  • my husband and i just started 5x5, we love it! We have done 5 days so far. It doesn't take that long at all- for both of us to do the workout, alternating, it takes total 45 minutes. So maybe shorter alone. i just like how its so easy. We researched the 5 lifts on the internet and we reference it a lot for form. I alm…
  • Just had a patient a few months back who got this from crossfit. Hospitalized for over 3 days!
  • I started with what he suggested except the overhead press. I could NOT do it. So I used my 25 lb curl bar and I am moving up from that. I have no upper body strength so it wasn't really a surprise.
