Week 3 completed. I understand that things get 'serious' in Week 4 - eek!

Wow! That's great progress in 3 months! All the best for the half marathon. For now I'm focusing on the process not the goal. The goal just does not compute! And thank you for the vote of confidence. W3/D2 done

Moved on to W3/D1 today and realised that I'm doing a 12-week plan rather than a 9-week plan but I'm in no rush. The prospect of ever running for a full 30 mins seems rather improbable from here - a paradigm shift for me - but I am surrendered to just following the program, one week at a time. Sam

I'm no expert and speak with absolutely no authority but I'm currently using a treadmill for C25K for convenience/accessibility reasons, although I've only completed Week 1 and 2 thus far. If I had easy access to level-ish ground I'd give the great outdoors a try. I understand that the treadmill experience is different but…

I'm 53! And 5ft. Sigh. Currently 131lb, down from 182lb. Goal? Well, I'm still aiming for my original goal of 126lb which I set as a fairly arbitrary number towards the top end of the BMI 'healthy' spectrum. Could probably afford to lose more so I'll probably keep adjusting the goal as I go. However, rate of loss is now…

Bang on 5ft, aged 53, 51lbs down with a bit more to go (5-10lbs I reckon). 1200 daily goal, no fads. Weight loss very slow these days and likely to remain so, sigh. Exercise most days (mainly circuit training with added extras, currently C25K). Diary open - anyone can add me! In any event - stay strong and consistent! Sam

Week 2 Day 1 - done! As I'm using the dreadmill I added a bit of incline as advised. Happy Friday!
-
Impressed with all this about doubling from 5k to 10k! A way off for me so I'll get back to you on that  W1/D3 completed - Friday will see me cross the threshold to W2. Benefits of running outside noted but I live in a VERY hilly area so will stick to the dreadmill for now, with 1% incline as suggested.

Thanks for the welcome. W1/D2 completed - took it a bit easier by slowing down a little, following the advice offered above and after reading through the experience of others. Happy Sunday!

Newbie here! W1D1 done yesterday, W1D2 tomorrow. So far so good  The 'what to do before you start' advice was/is very useful - thanks! Have been checked, have good shoes, know about warming up and stretching out. Have been doing circuit training 45m x 3 x week for past 6 months so fitness/stamina improving. I have…

I've been threatening to commit to this for ages. I hate running (for no good reason) and want to get over it (and myself!) Anyway, I did W1D1 this morning, mainly by accident - I was at the gym, on the treadmill (which I have been using for 30m brisk walking as a warm up), I was bored, had the download on my MP3…

Bang on 5ft here, age 53. SW 182 CW 131 GW 126 (fairly arbitrary number I decided on a good while back so likely to keep plodding until I get to 120). 51lb gone, and staying gone, but it's slow going! Little + relatively Light = hard work to achieve a significant calorie deficit even with exercise, especially over 50! Feel…

Well done you! Fabulous NSV's and the bra... well, I get it, it makes such a difference! Keep up the good work!

I'm 5ft and started at 182. Now 131 and aiming for 126 at which point I'll review. Taken a couple of years - progress has not been linear and I had a couple of lengthy 'maintenance' breaks when I had major surgery. Exercise not essential for weight loss but has many benefits - walking is good!
-
Prunes, rhubarb, beans (UK-based but assume that prunes and rhubarb are available tinned in natural juice?) Worked for me post-op after v invasive surgery but took a few days. Moving helped - I couldn't move much but gentle walking seemed to help encourage my digestive system into action.
-
1.5lb for me (in 12 days!) so we're up to 20lb total.
-
Well done you! You look great and I admire your joy and confidence - go girl! (BTW I am 53 and have never had the confidence to wear a bikini - I might just follow your lead and make it something to aim for!)
-
53 and based in Sussex. 50lb down (actually 49.5...) with 7-14 to go. Taken 2 years - it's not been a linear journey! Only 5ft so eating at 1200 for a 0.5lb loss/week. Sigh. Mainly shop at Asda - it's close enough to be a corner shop - with Morrisons (when I take my mum shopping and for a couple of items not…

Great images! A very graphic and effective motivator!

Hi there! I'm 53 and post-menopausal by at least a couple of years. Always had a tendency towards being overweight but gained a lot in my late 40's - partly menopause but also a lot of comfort eating to get through some stressful circumstances (not my brightest move). Have lost 47 lb since joining MFP 2 and a half years…

I dropped from 38D to 34J just by getting a proper fitting - made me feel and look much better. Since losing weight/exercising, I am now 34F or 32GG depending on brand (I bought two new bras in January after losing 40lb or so) - I am going to need a refit soon as no longer filling the cups but I'm putting it off until…

Hi! I'm 53 and have lost 47lb since I joined MFP a couple of years ago - there have been some health issues along the way which meant I had to go into 'maintenance' mode for extended periods but I'm back on the weight/fat loss regime again with 9lb to go to get into the 'healthy' BMI range (the goal I set myself), though…
-
I'm 5" and currently 137, down from 182. Aiming for 126 and top end of the 'healthy' BMI range - will review when I get there. Older than the rest of you (50+) so my priorities may be different! Good luck!
-
Fantastic! Well done you!
-
DId you get anywhere with this? I am in a similar situation. Despite losing more than 40lb, vastly improving my diet and vastly increasing my exercise levels, my cholesterol levels are higher today than 2 years ago (and way too high). Confused!
-
Another newbie here - well, a newbie to this thread but not to MFP as I joined in Dec 2011. Lost around 40lb in total last year (with a three-month blip in there somewhere where I gained some of what I'd lost :embarassed: and then recommitted  ) but progress has been very slow over past few months following surgery…

It's really interesting to see that there's such a range of goal weights amongst us! My stats: Height - 5'1 SW - 182lb CW - 140lb (I've been hovering around this for a while, following surgery earlier this year) GW - 126lb - or thereabouts! Will review when I get there against other measure like BF% Hoping to reach GW by…

Hi Brian I've been on MFP just over a year, lost 40lb, aiming to lose another 15-20. Quit smoking 16 days ago, cold turkey, and have gained a couple of pounds since then (but have also had surgery during tis period so may be other metabolic things going on!). Decided I can cope with short-term blips in weight whilst in the…
-
SImilar here. Quit smoking and had surgery in January and now a couple of lb heavier than I was 5 weeks ago. However, despite some initial disappointment, I'm confident that I'm doing all the right things, and that a short-term blip in weight loss is a very small price to pay for freedom from smoking and the health…

I'm no expert but I did a search on this subject and the results were all pretty consistent in the conclusion that cold weather doesn’t increase caloric expenditure in any significant way unless the body starts to shiver or has to work much harder to maintain your body temperature. For an example see:…
