the training schedule's i use for 5k's always have me doing a light workout 2 days before a race and then a rest day the day before the race. i find that it makes me stronger on race day and i have actually logged some personal best times by resting the day before!

had everything i wanted for dinner and stayed at my calorie count! yeah portion control!

if you eat your exercise calories back you still lose weight! even if you eat them back you still have a deficit of calories so it's not like you are overeating by eating your exercise calories. i personally eat most of mine back and i have lost 12 lbs in 5 weeks and am on a steady, consistant weight loss. most times i…

i had this too when i started running. make sure you do a warm up light jog or walk and then STRETCH! i have to thoroughly stretch my calves before a run. also make sure your shoes are good... that could make all the difference. drink lots of water and try some bananas on run days. i had issues with tight calves for…

i like green BEANS but i absolutely can't stand collard greens or turnip greens! it is like eating boiled mushy grass! my husband and his family love it but i just can't do it!!!

i have dessert on saturday and sunday and i let myself have whatever i want just a small portion of it. lately i have been on a double stuffed oreo kick for my desserts! 3 cookies is only 210 calories and usually it still fits in my calories for the day so i don't feel like i am cheating... just splurging a little!

i have had that happen to me a couple of times. before I got married my cycle was like clockwork, but with weight loss for a wedding and then weight gain from settling into marriage it kinda made my hormones a little out of whack! i normally had 5 or 6 day cycles and all of a sudden was having 20 day cycles every 6 weeks.…

i always follow the old single girl advice... don't go on a date hungry! eat before you go so that you aren't feeling hungry and can just have a bite of a couple of things that look good.

i have always heard that the stomach area is strictly diet, and so far that has proven true for me. the better i eat the flatter my stomach gets even if I am not working out. and on the other hand i can workout 7 days a week, but if my eating sucks than my stomach area will be large and not flat!

born and raised in southeastern minnesota but currently live in nashville, tn! i do miss minnesota though... best place to raise a family in my opinion. what part of minnesota are you from?

i do about a 6 or 7 minute warm up walk and then stretch my calves REALLY well and then start running. i find if i don't take the time to stretch out after a little bit of a warm up my calves feel too tight and i can't make it through the run. also make sure you are hydrated enough and try bananas... they seem to help for…

make sure you are thoroughly stretched out. i used to have issues with my calves tightening up when i ran so now i do a walking warm up for about 6 minutes and then stretch out THOROUGHLY before starting my run. i have also started to eat bananas a couple of hours before my long runs... that seems to help.

if mfp has you eating 1200 calories a day they have already built in a deficiency so that you will lose weight. i think they say you burn around 1800 calories a day just in every day stuff and to keep your heart beating, lungs breathing, etc. so you already have a deficiency built in with a 1200 calorie diet. however, if…

i have heard awesome things about the couch to 5k program, but i actually like to use hal higdon's training schedules. he has one called 30/30 which i did to start and then moved up to the 5k program and actually finished a 5k on saturday in 31 minutes! i have heard that jeff halloway has great training schedules too and…

from what i understand they eat a very strict 1200 calorie diet and work out for like 8 hours a day! they do it over the summer and most of the kids don't have a job, so losing the weight literally becomes their job! i don't think it is realistic for everyday people to workout 8 hours a day or to keep up their schedule for…

sounds like you know what works best for you! i too work at a desk job and have gained 30 lbs since i started here (3 years ago). the vending machine used to be a downfall for me too and i finally just had to stop carrying cash so even if i wanted to get something, i couldn't! really getting healthy and losing weight is…

i had this happen to me. the stress of school and the weight changes could have messed with your hormone levels a little bit causing you to have an inovulatory (you didn't ovulate) cycle. this happened to me twice in 6 months. definitely make an appointment with your doctor to rule out anything else. if it is an…

i too have recently started running and am training for a 5k in 3 1/2 weeks. i don't know if this is an option for you or if it will help you at all, but one of the things i have discovered is that i can run farther and longer on the treadmill than i can outside or on a track. so i have begun to have "treadmill" days and…
