  • Do you take glucosamine with msm? It's helped me with knee pain. 1500 mgs/day of each. Sadly, I have to avoid squats and lunges as well.
  • I think sometimes changes need to be made in stages. Five years ago I started with listening to my body (hunger and fullness) and lost nearly 100 lbs by simply reducing the volume of food I ate. That was stage one for me and I have maintained the loss. Stage two for me was exercise. I added it last fall. With the exercise…
  • 1500 mgs of glucosamine with MSM every day. This has worked wonders on my hip and knee pain while running. :)
  • I do that with the exception of making sure I get over 100 grams of protein a day.
  • I would strongly suggest a program like Couch to 5K. Because it's a gradual increase in running time, the body adjusts and strengthens slowly. After 9 weeks of the program you will be up to 30 minutes of running and I bet your heart rate won't be as high as it has been.

  • I started with Jilian Michaels Beginner series (Frontside and Backside). I really liked them. :)
  • A friend and I are starting Jamie Eason's LiveFit 12 week trainer tomorrow. You can find it at www.bodybuilding.com. Anyone else do this one? Did you like it?
  • I started C25K as a non runner on February 15th. I've worked up to 30 minute runs. It's just shy of 3 miles three times per week.
  • LOVE LOVE LOVE C25K!! I just completed week 9 day 2. I am one day from completing the program and I was a total non runner. However, I did it in 13 weeks due to a couple of injuries (not running related). No reason to rush it. Take your time. Definitely don't run more than three times each week. Give your body (muscles,…
  • I know exactly how you feel! At 165, I am 100 lbs below my heaviest weight and I feel amazing. Cheers to the 160s!
  • I've never tried this but someone on here said chocolate milk helps sore muscles. I also heard that drinking lots of water helps too.
  • I took a week off and lost weight as well. My trainer said that taking breaks from exercise has broken plateaus for her in the past. She suggested taking a break every 6 weeks. I'm back to working out again and can't wait to see what happens.
  • I lost 95 lbs while not exercising and have kept if off for nearly 4 years. I didn't use MFP. I simply started following my body's God given signals of waiting until I was hungry and stopping when I was full. I started exercising just last November because I wanted to see what sort of difference it would make for me. I've…
  • Ok...the height thing is weird. I'm 44. Always thought of myself as 5' 5.25". Went into the doctor a couple weeks ago and measured 5' 4.75". WHAT? How did that happen? Am I already at the shrinking age?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
  • I'm so glad you asked this question! I've been searching for a scent. It's been difficult since I'm single and don't have a man's opinion. Now I've got a list to work with! Thank you!
  • Me too! Well...pharmacy technician actually. :) I'm on my feet all day and it does help. In addition, I spend my work day counting out prescription medications for people with serious health issues...some that could have been avoided by a healthier lifestyle. It encourages me a great deal with my current efforts.
  • Have you tried being really intentional about your breathing? It can be tempting to hold your breath while running. I've been running about 2.5 months now and still have to put some thought into my breathing pattern. I breath in for two steps and out for two steps. I'm sure there are other patterns but that's what works…
  • That is amazing! I would have guessed a lot more than 18 lbs. Great job!
  • Alcohol always pulls all the fluid out of my body. I love the scale the next morning! Lol! Drink a lot of water today and weigh again tomorrow. :)
  • I did the run 60 seconds/walk 90 seconds repeat for 20 minutes version. It works great! I was a lifelong non runner and now I have completed week 7 (running 25 minutes straight) and will starting week 8 (running 28 minutes straight) tomorrow. A true miracle I tell ya! :)
  • It's actually understanding that we're beautiful and worth it that should motivate us to do this for ourselves. Health and fitness is a gift we give ourselves. It's not for anyone else.
  • I think it's important to simply way under the same conditions each time. Same time of day, same amount of clothing (or lack of), etc. On a side note, I've heard that we weigh the least one hour after waking in the morning.
  • In the cardiovascular section there is a "strength training" option available. I use that one.
  • Lee Riders are my favorite. Cheap and talk about faking a flat belly! :)
  • Jillian also has a Beginner series. Jillian Michaels for Beginners - Frontside and Jillian Michaels for Beginners - Backside. Loved those!
  • That was exactly where I was at the end of last year. Then I reduced the amount of carbs I was eating significantly and I dropped 10 pounds in two weeks! My body just responds better to a low carb diet.
  • I could physically feel my heart drop when I read your opening post. Women have in our very design a need to feel attractive and desireable. When men show desire for us it validates our feminity and gives us a sense of worth. I have known the ache of not being wanted by a husband and it hurts me to know that someone else…
  • I'm brand spankin new to running...six weeks new. I've noticed that back to back running days is a bit rough on my legs and feet still. Maybe I'll have more strength in a few months, but for now three days a week is it. I guess it's a personal decision based on what your body is ready for/can handle. So, I'm alternating…
