  • My 2 cents? Drink at least 10 glasses of water a day, figure out your TDEE and eat 20% below that (if you have more than 50 pounds to lose). Most importantly....be patient and give yourself time to figure out what works for you. Everyone will be different and lose at different rates. And if you're not lifting weights,…

  • Your body gets used and adapts to what you feed it. That's why people who eat 4000 calories a day can do that, and why people who only eat 1000 calories and not be hungry can do THAT. Your body adapts, so it's important to feed it enough or you'll mess up your metabolism.
  • 2 Tablespoons of regular peanut butter with an apple...boom. 300 calories.
  • You look fantastic! Congratulations!
  • Couple thoughts as I was reading through this....first, you said you're eating 1500 calories, but do you work out, and if you do, are you eating back your exercise calories? If you're not, they you may be creating too much of a deficit. Second, are you depriving yourself of something? I know if I don't get a semi-regular…
  • brower47 - I would guess 23?
  • LOVE this!! And sooo true!
  • That's basically what I did...without going below my BMR. And it worked for the first couple of weeks, but now it's stalled. Last time I upped my calories I started losing again, so I'm hoping that will work this time as well. I have a heart rate monitor, but it's an old one and doesn't tell calories burned. I was thinking…
  • Mine's open to friends, I log EVERYTHING, and I'm very interactive on MFP. Feel free to add if you like!
  • So, since I spent a lot of time on here trying to find my "twin" to see if I'm mostly fat or gaining muscle (haha) I feel obliged to put my measurements: I'm 5'5 1/2" Beginning: about 2 months ago Weight: 201.5 Waist: 37 Hips: 48 Don't know original bust size Now: Weight: 185.6 Waist: 35.75 Hips: 45.5 Bust: 39
  • Anything in particular you like or don't like about it? I don't know of anyone that has one....
  • You said you were worried about all the extra calories burned, so this obviously means you'll have to eat more (I'm sure you're saying DUH haha). What kind of restaurant will you be working in? Will you be able to cook yourself foods that are healthy that you would be comfortable with? Or will time be too much of a…
  • ^^ This. You could be doing more harm than good if you eat too little (mess up your homones, lose muscle mass, etc) I'm 42 as well...feel free to add me if you like! Oh, and if you lift weights...you'll feel AWESOME!
  • Oh, and one more comment...if you fiddle with your calories, give it 4-6 weeks. That's how long it can take a body to adjust. If this is your first week at 1500 calories and you gained a pound, I wouldn't worry about it. Same thing happened to me, then I lost 4 the next week. Obviously, everyone's different, but don't give…
  • Have you figured out your BMR and TDEE? You may still be eating too little. (Stress, the may!) If you are exercising that often, I'm willing to guess that you should be eating more. Another question...if you are not doing strict TDEE, do you eat back your exercise calories? I know MANY people that have lost eating their…
  • I can answer this: 2 reasons. First, your body will start to realize it gets food regularly, so it won't hold onto fat stores as much for self-preservation. And second, you burn a little extra calories everytime you eat (for digestion). Something I just learned myself...so if you eat more often, you burn more calories.
  • If you stomach bloats up every evening it could be: water weight, or a reaction to something you ate. I know there are some things I eat that will make me bloat up real bad. You'll just have to watch what you're eating and watch for the reactions. Could be carbs, could be wheat, could be dairy, could be sugar...etc. Good…
  • 8 is supposed to be a general minimum! For my body weight, I'm supposed to drink like 11 cups lol. I forget what the formula is...I'd have to look it up! Water is sooooooo good for you!

  • I'll play... 5 Positive: smart, compassionate, strong desire to help others (hence, my chosen profession of counselor), honest, good sense of humor 5 Negative: can be judgmental (always working on that one), can be too honest, can be selfish, can be lazy, can get too tunnel-visioned on something The reason I put "can be"…
  • The bad things happening to me: 1. The ring my hubby bought me a few months ago is now too big 2. I thought I was getting stomach muscles (I've only lost 17 lbs), but realized they're actually my ribs. Haven't seen them in a while. 3. The ice cream business, who depended on me, is hurting 4. Same with fast food, especially…
  • And don't forget the chocolate! You gotta have chocolate with your peanut butter and ice cream!! Finally a restriced diet I could live with!!
  • This is amazing....I never knew this before! Thanks for the info!
  • MFP always sets it WAY too low. I started off at 1200 (as per MFP) was hungry, and actually gained weight the second week. I now eat 1500 plus my exercise calories, and I'm losing very nicely. Check out what your TDEE and eat -20%. Good place to start.

  • Don't be afraid to increase you calories!! I know SEVERAL people (myself included) who started off at 1200 calories and plateaued, gained, were tired, etc etc etc but then increased to TDEE-20% and LOST weight while feeling full and feeling better. BUT - be prepared, sometimes it takes a month for your body to adjust. Do…
  • First, congratulations on joining here! There are some really great, helpful people on here. That's great you're drinking 8 cups of water. That was my first thought was maybe you tried to drink too much at once; I used to make myself sick doing that. Did you let your food settle before you went for your walk/jog? At least…

  • I think it all depends on how you have your MFP set up. If you have it set up to eat your TDEE, then, no you should not eat back your exercise calories. However, because I like feeling like I got rewarded for my hard work, I did it a little differently. I figured out my TDEE - 20%. Mine was about 1700 (My BMR was about…
  • My suggestion is to eat 1569 calories a day (TDEE - 20%). Do NOT eat back your exercise calories, as it's already figured in. Give it a month for your body to adjust. Some adjust faster, some do not, but trust me, it works!
