  • He claims to have lost 25lbs of fat and gained 10 lbs of muscle in 6 weeks. I don't believe it. I spent a year in my early 30s lifting hard and watching my nutrition and I couldn't gain 10lbs in muscle. So I agree with you, it probably depends on your body type. But to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time is no easy…
  • Pammy, How many lbs. per week have you set your goal at? If you change your lbs. per week goal you'll get more calories. I set mine to 1/2 lb. as I think that is more of an appropriate life style change that can be easily maintained forever. I don't believe in extreme diets, they're too hard and not a realistic lifestyle.…
  • +1 to that Set your goal at 0.5 pound a week and you'll get more calories and have success with less stress.

  • Something that hasn't been mentioned in this thread is... If you eat to few calories your body metabolism will go into starvation mode and it will become more difficult to lose fat. So be safe, eat your excercise calories.
  • That does not resonate with me. Imo, The fat caliber test pinches your skin to measure fat because much of your fat is between your muscles and your skin. You can't see the muscles underneath the fat until you reduce the fat, so toning the muscles underneath won't change your apperance. Actually if you work hard enough…

  • Great post Peter, I'm at my last 10 lbs. so I think this was an important thread for me. If I understand correctly we have on average 1000 calories of margin from I presume our maintenance level before our bodies go into survival mode. My Question: I set goal at 1/2 lb per week and it yeilds 1780 calories and after my…
  • I've read a million times and seen numerous studies that conclude you can't spot reduce. So the way to reduce your booty is to just lose weight. However your body will decide where to lose the weight first and where to lose last. Me, I lose in my waist and love handles last and doing situps will have no effect on that just…

  • Set your goal at 1/2 lb weight loss per week and take two walks every day (I do light weight training 2-3 times a week also). This is hardly even dieting, it is more like just living a healthy life style. And, it's easy to have a successful week which makes me happy (I usually doint better than my weekly weight loss goal).…
  • I set my goal at 1/2 pound per week which for me yields 1780 calories per day before excercise. If I had set my goal at 1&1/2 pounds per week my daily calories would be 1280. So, that's a pretty big margin before any worries. I just make sure I eat more than 1400 calories and less than my 1780 + excercise which is usually…
  • My vet said that walking for a dog is about the excercise equivalent of us flipping pages of a magazine. If your dog is healthy, not too old, and the weather is cool, he should be able to walk for hours.
  • I agree and difficult high intensity work outs and diets are not for me. For me going cold turkey and rapid weight loss goals don't teach sustainable habits. For example, I really wonder about the continued success of the participants of 'The Biggest Loser'. The kind of training that they do hurts to even watch and I just…
  • lol, funny post. Remember when you set your goals on this site it asked what your activity level was. That presumably adjusts your daily calorie total accordingly. So, I'd think you'd only add excercise for things that put you out of that daily activity level. I choose my activity level as sedentary (because of my job), so…

  • Hi, I decided Jan 1st 2007 that I wanted to lose 17 more pounds, 1 pound per month. By August I lost 8 lbs and was right on track, but then I stalled and didn't lose any more. So I joined myfitnesspal 3 days ago and I think tracking my calories is going to get the job done. I shop exclusively at Trader Joe's and as a…
