  • Not losing every week like clockwork is normal. The body is a complex thing and doesn't follow set schedules like that. Give it a bit more time before getting too worked out and discouraged. Also, check where you are in your cycle. I tend to retain more water a few days at the very end of my cycle and it makes my weight go…
  • I have given up on the whole activity tracker idea. I lost 40 pounds without one (gained it all back when I fall back to old bad habits). I got a Fitbit Flex for a birthday gift and liked it. When I was ready to upgrade to a HRM activity tracker combo I got a Vivosmart. In the end, I was losing at a slower rate than not…
  • LOL very steampunk!
  • $240 US, I just looked. I love the idea, but yeah those may have to wait until I get more serious with cycling. Those are more expensive than the secondhand bike I bought. The model pictured is for normal road cycling, they have another time trial style as well.
  • Given that OP stated they already ate breakfast and lunch, and is looking for other food ideas, I wasn't getting a big anorexia vibe. However, yes in a case where someone never feels hunger due to psychological issues with foods, then they should eat even if not hungry.
  • Unless you put obscene amounts of milk/creamer and sugar in your coffee the calories aren't huge. Drink it how you like, and tell others to fly a kite.
  • OMG you ate under 1200 for 1 day, your body will go into "starvation mode."
  • One day of low calories won't kill a person, even a week won't.
  • How many weird looks do you think I would get if I wore this running LOL. This looks perfect for what I was hoping for, for cycling at least. I shall head over to the Giro site now. Thanks so much.
  • I was hoping that some with more experience working out outdoors knew of an alternative. I have been searching around the net for a while and having no luck. Here was my last try to find something. Guess I shall have to suffer or be annoyed with sunglasses. Maybe someday someone will invent something else, tinted contacts…
  • I am running and cycling. There is periods of shade on my normal routes but rarely are they all shade. I do some workouts indoors, but outside is so much better. It is far to easy to cut workouts short when running on a treadmill or riding a stationary bike. When outside I have to at least get myself back home. I have been…
  • Please read the FAQ. http://myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/11170-why-don-t-you-calculate-calories-burned-for-strength-training-
  • Just because you have calories leftover doesn't mean you have to eat them. Only eat if you are hungry. As for ideas for dinner... I don't have a sugar restriction, so I haven't paid super close attention. However, a diabetic recipe blog should yield some good ideas. http://www.diabeticfoodie.com/ This one looks promising.
  • +1 for this! Best not to take the chance following the advice of random internet strangers on such an important matter. Speak with your doctor.
  • Farting in the gym is common, like others have said exercise tend to move things along. Don't worry about it. Most people have headphones on and can't hear you anyway. I haven't noticed any particular machine causing more gas than others, but I will certainly be hyper aware of it now.
  • A couple semesters ago I wrote a research paper on Vegeterianism. Once section was regarding the health benefits. Being a research paper, the above information comes form scholarly sources. Below is my full works cites list for the entire paper. Above is just the excerpt from the healthy benefit section.
  • I haven't mastered solving the soggy issue, but letting them sit in a bowl with salt for about 15 minutes prior helps get some of the water out.
  • There is doing a vegetarian diet well, and there is doing it badly. Just as someone can have a bad diet while eating meat. The meat or lack of does not make the diet healthy or unhealthy. Proper balance of macro and micro nutrients is the key. A few years ago I woke up one day and had no desire to eat meat, no reason I can…
  • Strawberry Banana is my primary go to smoothie. No real recipe, but if I had to guess it would probably be about... 4 strawberries, frozen 1/2 banana, frozen 1 cup milk (type of your choice, I prefer soy) 2-3 standard size ice cubes I do caution you on some recipes you may find. Enter them into the recipe calculator first,…
  • PJ pants and a t-shirt would work just fine. Just be sure to tuck in your shirt, don't want to give a room of strangers a show when you do an inversion. As others have said, letting the instructor see your body position is important. It is so easy to be slightly out of alignment when you are beginning. Heck, even experts…
  • Yoga and proper foot wear. I was suffering with horrible foot pain for months. I bought orthopedic insoles for my sneakers, and a few pairs of orthaheel dress shoes for work. I made sure I did at least 5-10 sun salutations every other day. Within a couple weeks, my foot was nearly good as new. Also key for me is to never…
  • I was in your spot not long ago. It really is true that you never forget how to ride a bike. You may feel on steady at first, but once you get going it is like being a kid again. Yes, get a real bike helmet. Reflective gear if you will ride before sunrise/after sunset, and lights/flashers. And for goodness sake, if you…
  • What NOT to do: Stare or laugh at people Try to use the gym as a place to "hook up" Make eye contact in the locker room Bring kids that are not age appropriate for the workout floor What to do: Wipe the equipment down after use Return equipment/weights/etc to their proper place What to bring/wear: Good shoes, appropriate…
  • What kind of step tracker are you using? A lot of them sync with MFP and will automatically give you calorie adjustments. Click on Apps to see if yours is listed.
  • I think of it this way. I am not on a diet, I am learning to eat and live healthy. It is a lifestyle change. If I had to live the rest of my life without having unhealthy food once in a while, honestly I would rather live shorter and be fat. It is about realizing what food is everyday food, and what is occasional food.…
  • My standard advice whenever someone is not sure how to estimate their calories burned is to invest in a HRM. It is really the best investment you can make in terms of workout costs, except for a good pair of shoes I guess. Years ago they used to be very pricey, but the cost has really come down. You can get a basic model…
  • You wouldn't log that into the exercise section. Your activity level would get set to lightly active or higher. Under Settings>Update Profile read through the descriptions and pick what fits your job best. This will tell MFP to give your a higher TDEE setting. Exercise is something outside your normal day to day activities.
  • I have both a Fitbit Flex and Garmin Vivosmart. Each has pros and cons. I like Fitbit's website way better than Garmin Connect for 24/7 activity tracking, but like Garmin Connect for more detailed workout metrics. Connect seems more geared towards athletes than lightly active folks, but my goal is to be more active so its…
  • If you are looking for MFP to calculate the calories burned for you, pick something that is the closest match for intensity. I am not familiar with that particular program, sounds like it would be aerobics related. There should be an entry for that in the database. If you know the calories burned from a HR monitor or other…
  • Depends on how large your chest is. I am a DD and have been wearing Under Armour bras. Highly satisfied with them for high impact workouts. https://www.underarmour.com/en-us/armour-bra-20-dd/pid1252164-001
