For most food items, weight measurement is far more accurate. Buy a food scale.

I don't buy cookbooks, waste of money IMO. What is better is getting cookbooks from the local library, try out some recipes then write them down. Also, the internet is full of recipes. allrecipes.com vegetariantimes.com eatingwell.com finecooking.com indianfoodforever.com I could go on and on... just google recipes.

I don't normally try to break down each ingredient in my meal when I eat out. I will first see if the restaurant has the nutritional facts posted online or will find a restaurant that does and use a similar menu item, last choice is to just guess the total calories and use the quick add. Unless you eat out very often,…

Yoga for me is a spiritual and meditative experience. Its a time where I clear my mind and focus on my body. I reconnect myself with the earth and the world around me. After Yin class I always feel light of foot and spirit. The rest of my day is better and I find that I am a more caring and peaceful person. Now that is…

Not sure about that, I simply think it tastes better.

My salads are always a mix and match of whatever veggies I have in the house at the time. Big bed of lettuce (normally spring mix or baby kales) and topped with chopped veggies (peppers, onions, carrots, celery, mushrooms, etc) I have traded most of my salad dressings in for red wine vinegar. It has no calories and gives…

Do you NEED to eat breakfast, no. Do you like to, that's up to you. I personally have never been a breakfast person during the week. This was true when I was in tip top shape and when I was fat and unhealthy. What makes you fat is calorie surplus, eating more than your body needs. Losing weight is due to a calorie deficit,…

There is a huge difference in eating like a frat boy on a daily basis and an occasional good time with your buddies. No, you will never be able to eat a large pizza and drink a pitcher of beer all by yourself every night. However you can get your drink and chow on once in a while for a night out with friends. I like to…

This is the tech support forum. You may get a better response in the Food or Recipe forum.

If that is the case then 1280 is too low. 15% deficit is around 1900.

Mac and Cheese is one of my favorite foods! Tons of calories though, I only allow myself a Mac and Cheese trick occasionally. I tried several "healthy" recipes and they just didn't satisfy the craving. I just let myself have the full fat cheesy goodness once in a while and focus on good eating the rest of the time.

IMO weight loss competitions are very bad. It leads to guilt and undo pressures. Eat healthy, workout, the weight will drop off naturally. No need to compare yourself to others.

My boyfriend hiccups after he eats anything. It's funny actually. http://health.howstuffworks.com/diseases-conditions/respiratory/are-there-foods-that-cause-hiccups.htm A quick google search provided the above. Sounds like some foods just do that to people. Give it a quick google search and see what more you may find or…

Agree there are online calculators that ask for your measurements and will give a % but they are highly inaccurate. Calipers are the most accurate, but that accuracy is dependent on the person completing the measurement. A personal trainer should be able to do this correctly for you. The option I use is a body composition…

BMI is flawed, it doesn't take into account the amount of lean muscle mass you have. A better measurement to look at would be your body fat %.

You will get mixed responses. Some people are for eating them back, others are not. From a program perspective, you are supposed to eat them back. That is how the creators of MFP designed this website. The difference between MFP and some other sites is that your calorie goal is based off of a deficit amount BEFORE…

Some of the "tricks" that helped me in the first weeks of eating with a calorie deficit, instead of the huge surplus I used to have. 1. Water, drink lots and lots of water. It fills your stomach, sending the "full" signal to your brain. 2. HUGE salads. I will eat an extra large salad before my meal. Not with my meal, but…

In my experience the restaurants that have this rule, its due to the discounted price on the meal. They assume the kid will be with an adult that is paying for their own overly priced dinner to cover the loss in profit of the kids meal. Parents are more apt to dine out with their kids if the kids meal is lower in cost,…

Yoga should never hurt. If you feel pain then you may need to modify the pose a bit. Your instructor should be able to help you with some modifications. Any yoga instructor worth their salt should be adjusting you if you are doing anything "wrong". Many poses can be very challenging for beginners. Be sure you are taking…

No pill is going to solve the issue of self control.

YES, eat them. That is how MFP is designed. If you find that you are struggling to eat back all your calories due to a heavy workout with a large burn. Consider adding more calorie dense foods. The "I'm not hungry" excuse for under eating doesn't fly IMO.

Reducing or eliminating junk foods from your diet is not just about weight loss, but about healthy living. You may be at an ideal weight but there could be significant damage to your internal organs, be more at risk for cancers and other health issues, as well a lower life expectancy. In our society we put far too much…

Tried Soba noodle once, discovered that I am highly allergic to buckwheat, throat closed up and my whole body swelled up it was a fun night. It is used in a lot of Japanese cooking, which makes me now afraid to dine out at any Japanese restaurant. I would suggest looking up some Japanese recipes for some ideas.

Calorie Deficit is the only way to lose weight. What cardio exercises you are doing doesn't matter if you are eating over your TDEE.

I'm confused on how not logged in a snack would cause her HRM to record a lower calorie burn?
-
It is possible that at some point during your class your HRM watch was not receiving a signal from the strap. This can be caused by a few things. Low batteries in the strap or watch, dirty connections on strap, cross chat between near by HRMs, etc. My normal first course for action if I notice abnormal readings is to clean…

What types of results are you looking for?

I bet if someone tried to harm you, they would not be so sweet. Dogs mean business if someone tries to hurt the people they love.
