  • first of all, are you under a doctor's care? you need to figure out why the pain is still there after so long. does an ibuprofen before exercise help? you said a bike still causes pain, but have you tried a recumbent exercise bike on low resistance? when I had foot pain, I could still do this, and gradually built up to…
  • function-wise the Polar FT7 has been great. At first it would lose synch, but then I tightened up the strap a little more and it's been flawless ever since. I wish there was a screen that showed heart rate, calories, duration and current time on one screen instead of having to cycle through three screens. The 'fitness/fat…
  • I've got the Eatsmart Precision Premium, and it seems to be very accurate. Check out amazon, there are a few scales there with a lot of good reviews.
  • has this been tested? especially considering the Fitbit Flex won't be released until May
  • I like my polar ft7; it seems to be recommended a lot on here. I wish it would display heart rate and calories (and time if possible) on one screen instead of having to cycle through the three screens. Minor issue. make sure the strap is tight enough, and clean it regularly or it loses connection sometimes.

  • Yeah, it feels like a lot of hotels just have a “fitness center” so they can check that box on an amenities list. Sometimes it’s better just to go for a walk or jog, or do a workout in your room with a video on your phone or laptop.
  • yeah, like everyone has said, oatmeal...I've been getting these precooked steel cut oatmeal microwaveable bowls (brand name minsley) and they are awesome.. takes 1 minute, 170 calories, filling, and I don't have to wash the bowl :-) amazon has them also, regular old cereal is always quick. just make sure you measure out an…
  • I'm not sure, but MFP seems to take an average approach to their profiles, goals, etc by following current medical research. I've seen that usually 5000 steps is considered sedentary "we propose the following preliminary indices be used to classify pedometer-determined physical activity in healthy adults: (i). <5000…
  • are you weighing your food when possible? it's really easy to underestimate calories if you're just guestimating the portion sizes. how about activity level? if you're overestimating your calories burned in a day, you'll need to get a more accurate way of tracking it, perhaps something like a fitbit. hang in there!
  • I think you'd need two types if you want to get a close measure of daily calories burned. One for regular walking/moving around like fitbit (which detects movements, not heart rate), and one for your cardio workouts (a real heart rate monitor). The Mio Alpha ($200) is a strapless continuous hrm, and omron has the HR-500U…

  • yep, less weight to carry = less work done = less energy used. Maybe you could start carrying around a 10lbs weight in a backpack to compensate:-) actually, I wonder if anyone does that? maybe a 20 lbs lead scuba belt would help me
