"Damn! Look at how much she's lifting! And look at that awesome form!" I bet he was thinking "Man, I wish I could squat that much weight!" Nice work and I loved reading your story.

^^^^ This is me exactly. Ovulation is always good for 2-4#. I've tracked my weight on an app used to track TOM and it's crazy how accurately I can predict my gain.

I've jumped on and off the "eat at cut" train so many time I'm dizzy. Every time I see a gain I bail (confessions of a daily weigher). I'm summoning the courage to recommit and trust the process. My question is how long do you watch the scale go up (pounds or weeks) before you figure out the numbers just aren't quite right…

I need to copy and paste this on my FOREHEAD. I've increased (gained a smidge) decreased (maintained) increased (gain a tad) decreased (maintained) for months and months now. Every time I increase calories and gain an ounce, I get scared and bail. I have to find the courage to face a possible 4-5# gain and work through it.…

^^^ it also lets you hear a car that's getting too close! I've never done the program (I just started running and did it all wrong), but I have coached several groups of runners through it over the past few years. My best tip: run slower than you want to and walk faster than you think you should.

I want to know what I have to eat to get shoulders like that!!!! :noway: :noway:

I'm as far from an expert as they come, but in my limited research it seems the best time is 30-60 minutes after workout when your body is primed to accept the carbs and protein to rebuild muscle. On another note, I love mixing my protein powder with vanilla almond milk and frozen blueberries! I workout in the morning and…

I have one I bet you can answer. I went cold turkey off all carbonated beverages 3 years ago because (1) I was officially addicted :drinker: (2) I wanted to eliminate as many chemicals from my diet as possible, and (3) I read articles indicating that carbonated beverages lower bone mineral density. Is there any validity to…

My dentist recommended the Crest 3D White Strips and also using Sensodyne toothpaste to help with the sensitivity.

Do extreme diets (i.e. low carb, cabbage soup, paleo, no sugar, etc.) make you live longer or does it just feel longer?

I'm 51 and have been eating increased calories for 8+ weeks now. I'm trending upward just a bit, but nothing to be worried about. I still haven't seen any love from the scale, but I'm also still adjusting numbers looking for the magic calorie count. On the up side, I have lost inches and I'm rocking my workouts (and I work…

Yep, made that change yesterday and I'm stuffed. Giving it a month and will reevaluate. Thanks for your guidance!!!
-
   Well, if I figured TDEE correctly, last month I averaged about 100 calories per day under the 20% cut and I lost 1/10#  On the upside, I never figured I could eat this much and not gain!!!

Thanks for this. I'm in week 8 of gradually increasing and seeing no success. Your post gives me hope.

Her previous weight was almost exactly my current weight. When she stepped on that scale I gasped! She lost 15 freaking pounds in one week (or 9 days or whatever) and I've tried for a year with no real success! I was so glad for her and I really hope she's one of the rare ones who keeps it off, though none of them that I…

Bumpity bump bump.

I've had been stalled for months and months and months so I increased my calories and guess what? I'M STILL STALLED but I'm not starving, still maintaining, and my workouts rock.

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!!! I went today for a metabolism test and hydrostatic body fat test and ........wait for it..........my BMR was 1613 exactly (please refer to :noway: above). MFP calculates it at 1450'ish. 1613 x 1.2 (desk job) + 600 avg daily burn - 250 (-.5#) = 2285 to lose .5# per week. My average intake for the…

Try as I might, I have NEVER hit 1gr of protein per lb (164). I don't see any way without going way over on daily calories or giving up a substantial amount of food to supplement with whey protein.....and I eat nuts, cheese, meat and eggs almost every day and add greek yogurt when calories permit. Off to do more protein…

This is my story exactly (well almost exactly). I'm not really seeing any measurable weight loss, but still looking for the sweet spot for calories. I'll get there. Interestingly, my weight is it's lowest during TOM and the highest during ovulation. Maybe that a pre-menopause thing - who knows. I'm not techy enough to…

Oh, but it's sweet on rest days!!!

I'm considering a VO@max test, but I'm reading horror stories about the test itself. Tell me what it consisted of. I have my first metabolism and hydrostatic body comp test scheduled next and might add VO2max if it wasn't terrible. I'm already a little intimidated by the hydrostatic testing....

I'm glad I'm not the only one all over the body fat place. My BF scale=32%, Navy (women)=28.7%, Covert = 23.25%, I live in a town with 4 universities (including Vanderbilt) and not one has hydrostatic testing.

With this criteria, MFP puts me at 1360 so I did a custom set at 1430 and will adjust when (or if) the weight goes down). I'll NET here for a week and then increase to 1600+. Once I increase NET, then I tell my HRM I'm 13? Your "side comment" explains why I've worked so hard 6x/week for 4 years and haven't seen any real…

My average net over the past 30 days was 1230 (assuming HRM was accurate-which I now know isn't true). Using that number as a BMR, I'd be 94 YEARS OLD (and I'm 51)....what!?!?! OMG   So I should tell my HRM that I'm 94 years old and try to NET up to 1613? For the record, I'm happy to lose as slow as necessary to…

Here are my numbers: Navy Women Only BF 28.7 BRM 1525 Age 32 Covert Bailey BF 23.25 BMR 1613 Age 13 :noway: If I use the average I get: BF 25.98% BMR 1569 Age 30 I'm 51 years old. I do work out A LOT and, except for 15 extra pounds, I'm in good shape for my age, but holy cow - 23.25% BF. So, my HRM thinks I'm 165#, 5'6"…

I did one last year (at age 50) and am doing another this year. The obstacles look way more scary in pictures than they really are. I honestly did not struggle with anything. I went in with the mindset that I might have to skip something, and I did them all. I did go very slowly on the tire run because I had a fear of…

Just did this and MFP didn't like it.   Tells me I will gain .8# per week. We'll see in a month MFP.
-
'Haters to the left!'   Dan Thanks!!!! You should get a commission for all your hard work here. You ran my numbers for me a few weeks ago and recommended I eat 2000 calories a day for a while then start alternating 2000/2200. For anyone else reading, I'm a 51 year old female, 5'6", 164#, 29.5% body…

Seriously? And you can drop fat that way? That would awesome!!!! I'm trying to gross 1900-2000 but on extreme cardio days I can burn 950-1050 and on most cardio days I burn at least 750 (6x/week). With a BMR of 1470 that would put me grossing 2220-2520. If I could eat 2220 and lose 1/2# of fat a week, I'd be in heaven!! I…
