I just came off a half yesterday and stay in half form pretty much all year round. I have one in October, but will probably add 2 or 3 more to the calendar within the next couple of months.. I couldn't justify the cost of Disney, though i'm sure it's a fun race. Feel free to ad me if you want.

Just buy a pair of jeans at Old Navy. They're notorious for having their sizes run big! A 10 in any other brand will be a 4 or 6 at Old Navy :-)

Hmmmm....either eliminating and/or burning 35,000 calories in 17 days. That breaks down to having a 2,058 calorie deficit per day. Good luck to you. I wouldn't last 2 days on that "diet"

I thought the same thing. When you start out that heavy, yes you can lose 10 pounds a month, but as you lose more weight, that number will become signifigantly lower. I'm not saying it can't be done, but i'd hate to see someone set themselves up for failure with such big numbers. I think 60-70 is more reasonable in a…

Whatever works for you. I just have a cup of coffee before my morning runs, which are currently anywhere between 4 and 12 miles. The only exception is when I race a half marathon because those usually start later in the morning and i'm hungry by then. In that case i'll have a banana or a half a luna bar prior to race time.…

Same here due to very low blood pressure. I sprinkle some on a hard boiled egg for a snack every day.

Yeah, I got a little giggle out of it too.

Hi There - I'm a runner in my early 50's. I'm running my 8th or 9th half marathon in two weeks (i've lost count) and just came off my first full marathon last fall. I also live by the ocean and love kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. Feel free to add me if you wnat :-)

I have this problem constantly as I rarely eat at chain restaurants.; I just search the database for food that looks similar to what i'm eating and go from there. And don't pick the lowest calorie option you find. You're only cheating yourself if you do that. Look for something mid-range.

Thanks. I think i'm out till they get their act together.

Here you go. It will take a day or so for your body to process the extra food. So you really didn't "gain" weight. It's just still in your stomach. Also, when you work out, your body retains water to repair the muscles and that can add up to a pound or two. Drink lots of water and i'm sure those pounds will be gone in…

Thanks Essjay....that's pretty much what I heard about Chicago too. Very disorganized. And i'm seeing FB posts today from SF that the parking situation is difficult. Maybe i'll pass this year.

"so a fish that cleans the poop out of ponds used to grow other fish is different in a different country?"
Exactly why I don't eat tilapia. Ever see that episode of Dirty Jobs?

^^THIS - Is your goal to finish it and have it be a miserable experience, or to enjoy it? If it's the former, go ahead and give it a try. it it's the later, give yourself some more time. I ran my first marathon last October after running half's for 4 years. I had the time of my life and enjoyed every aspect of it, even the…

There is nothing wrong with you. I've been drinking a can of diet coke 4-5 days a week for over 30 years now. Although the poster is correct that there's no nutritional value to it, I find it refreshing and a good mid-day pick-me-up. Or course, if it bothers you, you could always switch to beer! :drinker:

This. I get up at 5. I don't quite have a 10 1/2 hour day like the original poster, but I do work outside the home and have to get my daughter up and out to school, homework, dinner, etc. You make time for it, whether it's 5 in the morning or 10 at night.
-
I'm running a 10K at 7AM. That's the only exercise i'll be counting. I doubt you'd even burn a piece of pumpkin pie off from cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
"And of course, there's Carson. From another planet. One where apparently everyone runs very well."
Carson is my idol! I started running at 45 and just ran my first marathon two weeks ago at the age of 50. You can do it!!

I ran Santa last year. It's a flat fast course and in no way would be considered a boa and tiara event. It's a festive crowd with some people dressing up. It's also a smaller race with only a few thousand entries. They also have a neighborhood cheer competition so the crowds really come out to cheer you on. It's well run…

This is a very good point. I'm running my first marathon in 3 weeks. I'm currently getting up at 4:30 AM in order to run my weekday 8 miles and 5AM on Saturdays so I can finish my 20's before lunchtime (they take me approximately 5 hours....i'm a slowpoke) And for the record, I had 8 half's and 4 years of running under my…

Did you get the Brooks fitted from a professional at a running store? They might just be the wrong shoe for you.

Is your buddy really heavy? I get 258 if I were to log an hour of gardening.
-
i wish I knew this 12 weeks ago. I would've really enjoyed sleeping in on all those past saturday mornings.
-
I started running at 45. Now at 50, I have 8 half marthons under my belt and am training for my first full marathon in October. So to answer your question, nah, you're not too old. Happy running!!

109.7 in spite of traveling for work and being sick. I'm pretty pleased with that. Now bring on August!

So awesome!

This - apply the KISS principle (keep it simple stupid). The rest will follow when the time is right.

Shimp and pork tenderloin. Both low in calories and high in protein.

Shrimp - 6 ounces has about 180 calories and 36 grams of protein. I like to wrap mine in bacon :glasses:
