  • Your body gets used to t he amount of exercise you do so you need to set goals to do that bit more each week/month. Walking a bit further would be easiest - another route to work? walk past and come back?
  • Hello sappy - yes, your calorie allowance will go down as you lose weight. And yes, it will work if you keep to the calories given. Try not ot be under too often or your metabolism will slow. I think writing it down is key, and I love the phone app which helps me do that on the move. Friend request coming over...
  • Hi Vicky What keeps me motivated is time! I've been tryimg to lode weight for years and all of a sudden I'm 64 and my joints are beginning to give up. If i don't so it now it will be too late. I know at 25 you feel your life is in front of you but don't waste a second of it by feeling frumpy, tired, and perhaps unable to…

  • Sorry, shouuldhave said my goal is 10 st 2 which is 142 lbs but realistically I don't think I'll go below 150 lbs (hopefully!)
  • That's our fat cat Jack! He could do with a diet! I need to lose 50 lbs which is 22.6 kg. Long way to go! But you're sensible to aim to lose slowly because then it stays off. Actually you'll probably lose more, especially to begin with. What is your goal? You look great in your photo, I can't imagine you have lots to lose.
  • Inverness-shire - Fort William end
  • It sends your post back up to the top - bumps it up the list - so it doesn't get lost amongst newer ones,

  • It's much clearer on the phone app! When you've finished logging in your daily total it tells you've eaten too much or not enough and also how much you will lose over 5 weeks if 'every day was like today'. So the calorie goal you're given is aimed at you losing weight at 1 and a half pounds or two pounds a week which is…
  • It's what you eat rather than trying to break t he habit - unless you're suffering from lack of sleep. I can't sleep because of a painful leg so can sympathise, Again - are you drinking enough water? I find a big mug of 40 calorie hot chocolate does the trick for me, it makes me feel full.
  • Good luck Lisa - the older you get the harder it is so stick in there!
  • Hi there Please add me if you like, I'm also a grandma and at 64 can urge you to get on with it as time goes so fast. I have no more time to waste on diddling about losing some and putting on more or it really will be too late for me.
  • That's the way I felt - and all of a sudden I'm 64 and my fitness is failing as arthritis etc takes hold. So go for it girls, time passes so fast!
  • Best of luck arthurpendragon. If this is your first attempt, the stick with it, I'm sure you'll see improvements all round, even to the asthma. This is a fantastic site for encouragement and help and so easy to use. Has glenbabe been on it for a while? It's fantastic you have each other for support.
  • Good luck!
  • And I think freshly ground black pepper is one of the most underrated spices on the planet.
  • I have just been thinking that about Scottish Slimmers which I've been with for a couple of years. I just joined MFP last week having got the app after Christmas. MFP is so easy to use and also gave me I thought less calories. I've just looked today and realise I have been using too many 'checks' (as SS calls them) - 1…
  • If we lived in the natural world we'd be half hibernating. To bed with the sun and up with it too. Even my early bird husband is struggling just now. SAD has a lot to do with it though!
  • I agree. For a while I did a lot of juicing and really love the veg juices, with spinach a favourite. I was looking really energised with clear skin etc and people were asking me what I was doing. I couldn't believe it when a woman I know who is a mother of teenagers pulled a 'yuk' face and said 'how awful'. In her place I…
  • I've found it, my fault, had't seen the button there (still finding my way round the site). It looks like your worst time is in the evening. Do you sit watching TV and find you want to snack? Personally I have a large mug of hot chocolate, the 40 calories kind, which fills me up and takes away the sweet cravings. Or some…
  • Hi Kirsten What a sensible approach - it sounds like you'll have no problem getting slim and fit. It is a great sit and I feel re-energised since I signed up last week. Good luck!
  • I can't see it - I think you have to make your page more open or sign up some friends - not sure.
  • That's the spirit! Try the waist measurement thing for a bit. Good luck!
  • I find my weight fluctuates from day to day and there can be so many reasons. Perhaps you ate foods that absorb water? Do you watch the sodium intake? Did you weigh yourself at the same time of day as previously? I think the most important thing is to forget what the scales say and don't let it put you off. Many people…
  • Hi there You have your hands full! I cared for my mother for six years - she had dementia - and I have just had a visit from my neighbour who had done the same some years, and then took on her extremely unloving and unpleasant mother in law six months ago. She just came in to tell me she can't take any more and her MIL…
  • She's jealous. Has she also got weight to lose? she's afraid you're going to look better than her - perhaps you already do. There are 'friends' who want you to stay as you are because it's less threatening to them.
  • What a good idea cheryl - I suppose the nearest we get to that is when he wants fish and chips from the shop and I have something I fancy that he doesn't like. Luckily he likes most things (except wholewheat pasta!) but there are some.. will try this, thanks!
  • I work from home a lot - at the kitchen table!! It can be hard but I make sure there is nothing naughty in the cupboards and I try to snack on very low calorie foods. A cup of low calorie hot chocolate can take away sweet cravings and fill you up. Water as Forensic suggests and fruit. and I also agree about keeping busy.
  • Don't worry, it may well have gone by tomorrow. Scales are funny things - many diet gurus tell you to go by the tape measure instead. Sometimes there's a few days or a week's lapse between doing well/badly - the main thing is not to let it throw you, just carry on withe the good work.
  • I have some wonderful bean soup recipes from Scottish Slimmers that I make a lot.
