  • Great -- that model does look really great. Now I'm trying to decide if I should buy one ASAP since I have a half marathon in two weeks or just wait until after the race so I have time to adjust to using it...decisions, decisions! Thanks for all the input everyone.
  • Ok - great, thanks! I'm leaning toward one that's better for training than calorie count, so it sounds like I'll be going with a Garmin.
  • Does the Polar FT4 track how many miles you've run? I know there's not GPS, but wondering if it keeps track of mileage....
  • Do you have any local friends or neighbors who you could set a workout date with? That's what I do. I really did not feel like going swimming at 6am this morning, but I had already set a date with my friends and didn't want to let them down. So...I went and of course was happy I did once I was at the gym. Once you get in…
  • I've heard from a few people that the Frederick Half Marathon has a nice course. Not sure if that's too close to your May marathon, but just an idea!
  • Glad you're getting back into running! I've gone a little race crazy this year. I joined a triathlon club last year, which is great, but all of a sudden I've really come to enjoy running more than swimming and cycling. Still doing the club so there's always people to train with for the three sports. The mission sounds…
  • AHHH, I'm friending you now. I'm seriously thinking about that race. I had the same thing happen to me-- I'm running the DC Rock N Roll 1/2 marathon race in a few weeks and my friend I was training with had to back out. I want to see how that one goes in a couple of weeks and then see if I want to do Zooma too!!! So cool…
  • What an amazing transformation! Congratulations!
  • Almost twins, but I must say your BF% is way better than mine. Need to take more accurate measurements, but mine is definitely 20-something%. I'm also a size 4, not a 2-- maybe one day? Height: 5'3 SW (on MFP): 137.5 CW: 131 GW: 120-125 Pants size: 4 or 27, depending on brand Any other twins out there?
  • I exercise a lot, so if I ate 1200 calories like MFP told me, I think I would keel over. I'm still losing weight with upping my calories...about 6.5 pounds in 9 weeks. homemade peanut butter granola peanut butter and carrots hummus and veggies cashews, peanuts or almonds Greek yogurt 2% fat granola/protein bars low fat…
  • Do you have orthodics? See a podiatrist and get fitted for a pair. I can't exercise without them!
  • I'm training for my first half marathon in three weeks! I started the training about 12 weeks out and loosely followed the Runner's World guide, but was a little lazy about doing interval training. I figure the first time I'm just trying to finish and in the future I'll do more speed work to improve my time. If you've been…
  • Here's some of my advice from personal experience, but everyone's different, so take it with a grain of salt. I have been doing this for 9 weeks and am now down 6.5 pounds. I spent about three weeks hovering around the -4 pound mark. I exercise 6 days a week doing both cardio and weights and usually burn about 500-700…
  • Based on my personal experience, this really messes with my progress. I'm currently training for a half marathon and usually workout six days a week burning an average of 500-700 calories a day. For the past few weekends there's at least one day whether due to birthday parties or going out of town that I eat significantly…
  • I'll add you now! Good luck!
  • Hey- I'm kind of in this boat too. I've lost a little over 4 pounds, but just bought a new pair of jeans this past weekend that are a size smaller. I definitely eat more than 1200 calories a day, but with a lot of long distance running and other activities, I think I would die if I didn't. I'm pretty good watching the…
  • If you like earthy and mostly vegetarian, any of the Moosewood Restaurant cookbooks are AMAZING. The one I have is the "new classics" version which I really like Also, I have a Cooking Light- Complete Cookbook that I really enjoy as well. Even though most of the Cooking Light ones could be found online, I still really like…
  • Hey, so I'm training for triathlons this summer and did two last year also. I usually do group instructed swim for an hour once a week and what we do is typically start with a 300m warm-up, do various drills that help you focus on technique instead of speed, then do longer sets like 3 sets of 300m and each one maybe every…
  • Hey, so I just looked at the shoes you want to buy and it says "cleats not included." This means you'll just have to buy the cleat part and screw it in (I think it's usually like $10-15 extra). You could buy that online or if you don't want to do it yourself once you get the shoes just go to a local bike store and purchase…
  • I have cycling shoes for my clip in pedals of my road bike that unfortunately are not compatible with most spin bikes. However, I'm thinking of getting another pair that is because I think it's that much more helpful to have the shoes for spin class. It's definitely a good investment and will help keep your feet in…
  • If I can help with any training questions, just let me know. It's hard at first, but then you'll see how truly fun and inspiring the races can be and before you know it, you'll be training for race after race. Glad we're friends on here now and can encourage each other!
  • Great! Glad to hear you have so many races planned ahead. I find that's the best motivation to keep at it. The 1/2 marathon in March will be my first, so I'm really looking forward to it. I'd love to answe any tri questions you might have later because they are so much fun. With continued hard work, I know you'll not only…
  • Looking forward to it!
  • I think we're all pretty close too... height 5'3 age: 24 sw: 137.5 on MFP, highest weight closer to 150 cw: 133 gw: 120-125

  • Can't wait to try this! Thanks!
  • Something in Runner's World I read gave guidelines for what to set your 1/2 marathon goal as based upon your one-mile time trial: If you run one mile in: 7 minutes----> 1:47:00 half marathon 8 minutes----> 2:02:18 half marathon 9 minutes----> 2:17:35 half marathon 10 minutes--->2:32:52 half marathon Obviously those…
  • If you like oatmeal raisin cookies, the Luna Iced Oatmeal flavor is the BEST! I also like the peanut butter ones, but honestly, I almost always get iced oatmeal because it's the best. I've tried nearly every flavor, not as big on the chocolate ones. The lemon zest one is also pretty good, but very strong lemon flavor, so…
  • I joined a triathlon club and made a bunch of new friends. Now I have more friends that are more interested in a long run than several drinks at happy hour. When I go out with some of my old friends they always give me a hard time about not drinking or eating whatever they're getting, but there's nothing like the excuse,…
