I tend not to tell people on a diet, or I'll say something like "I've just eaten, I'm full, I'm having a big meal later". I find that these tend to work :)

I'm aimimg to weigh in monthly for the same reasons, plus the fact that I'm currently too big for my home scales. For me it will be every 4 weeks on a Friday :)

I've decided to weigh myself once a month as I find that I will always lose weight over a month when I'm on track but not necessarily over a week. I find this more motivational.
