As has been said, squat and deadlift... unbeatable. I find in particular Front Squats (barbell across your front delts) awesome for core strength as its a battle just to keep stable.

The benefits of exercise go so much further than just losing scale weight and you are also much more likely to be able to keep the weight off if you train as well and turn your body into a calorie munching machine. Sounds familiar, i have the same issues with Fitness Evolved 2012, i can do 30 mins of pretty intense work and be shattered but it thinks ive only used a handful of calories and it has lost me a couple of times when doing crunches
