maybe i'm off base, but i know from the guys i work with, this may be an issue of phonetic spelling. the "o" in lose sounds like "u", we are taught that two o's sound like u, hence loose instead of lose. not sure if this is the issue with everyone, but in my office, all my route guys make this mistake.
