  • This is what our journey is all about! Living again, isn't it wonderful!
  • I'm so glad you sought out professional help. I think it's different for everyone. It's very easy to overestimate your calorie burn and underestimate how much you eat. For me I started at 220 lbs, 5'9". I was eating 1440 cals as a base for 2 lb a week loss. My lifestyle was set to lightly active, one above sedentary. I…
  • I'm ready to post a success story, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm 5'9" and my start weight was around 220. I'm a medium to large frame. I have always felt like a giant around my friends. My weight loss to date is 51 lbs! I'm down to 168.6. The scale isn't moving much now, but I'm really focusing on my running.…
  • I think mine aren't bad. I substitute half of the meat with ground pork or ground turkey. You get a softer texture than all ground beef and I like the flavor better too. I also use the leanest ground beef I can get, 90-95 lean. I still use 1 egg with 1.25 lbs of meat. I substitute instant oatmeal for the crackers. I don't…
  • I do all of these. I started to notice too that about 2 hours after a meal I wouldn't feel hungry, but all I could think about was food. This was the first sign that my body was ready to eat again, so I started feeding it. I would make it a protein snack like 1 oz of cheese or a small yogurt. This would usually head off my…
  • yes, but adjust according to your weight loss. Start out eating back a conservative amount. If you exceed your weight loss goals then eat more. If you don't lose, eat less.
  • Do what works for your body. I think the key is to figure out how much you need to eat and exercise in order to lose 1% of your body weight per week. If you're obese your body is able to shed more weight quickly. I started at 220, which was about 20 lbs into obese for my height. I was eating 1400 cals a day as a base and I…
  • Yes, to the stretch marks. Mine have lightened up during my weightloss from my last pregnancy and my stomach has really lifted and tightened up. I'm very happy with my progress and don't feel it's worth it to get a tummy tuck.
  • Really!? Didn't you notice how gaunt her face looks and her arms is bony with hollow places. They filled her out in the photoshopped one.
  • I think it's crazy that 10 US is considered plus sized. For taller women this can really mess with your body image. I'm 5'9" and 168, which is within a healthy BMI. I'm finally starting to transition into size 10 clothes. I'd probably have to lose another 20 lbs to get into single digit sizes. I've only been there once at…
  • I found that the longer I do this, my body actually does really well with an occasional maintenance day. I typically have one maintenance day every 2 weeks and it has never affected my anticipated losses.
  • bump, have to make these!
  • Yes, this week I achieved my New Year's Resolution! The beginning of Jan. I weighed 220ish at 5'9" and I couldn't even do houdehold chores without getting winded. Friday I made my final goal of 50 lbs lost. This puts me at 170, which is the top of the healthy weight range for my height. My fitness level has also…
  • I get up early 3 x a week to run. Hot here. I get up 30 min. before I want to leave. I usually drink about 20oz. of water and eat around 200 cals of something high in carbs. When I get home I eat again. Usually another 300 cals.
  • this is almost exactly what I do. The mornings I run I eat a little more, but it's split into two small meals for pre and post run. I think a large glass of water is really important to start rehydrating especially if you're a coffee drinker (me). I don't always have fruit, but they probably suggested it as a way of…
  • I think this is it. People are used to seeing you overweight/obese. Today I finally broke into the healthy weight range for my height, but people have been telling me for the last 10 lbs that I should stop. They're shocked and insist that I'm crazy when I tell them I want to lose another 10-20 lbs. I'm certainly not…
  • they're going anywhere without surgery. I've lost my weight and my abs are pretty tone now. I'm happy with the improvement my stretched out stomach has made. I wore a bikini all summer and I think I looked great! I thought I would want surgery, but after seeing the improvement in my stomach with diet and exercise vs. pre…
  • 20lbs before I noticed it in my clothes and 30ish before people started noticing. I was also able to go down a size in clothes after 30 lbs, which is probably why others started to notice.
  • Welcome! I contemplated WW before joining MFP. I decided I didn't like the idea of someone else deciding the caloric/nutition value of my food. WW seemed like a middle man. I like how MFP is helping relearn how to eat appropriately for my body. I think this site will prepare me better for maintaining my loss. I suggest you…
  • I agree with everything that was said. You can also try to avoid things that you know are going to be high in cals. No fried food, no breading, no cream sauce, and ask for all sauce/dressing on the side. I usually only need 1/2 or less of the amt. of sauce on a meal. One of my favs is Chili's quesadilla explosion salad.…
  • check out crockingirls.com or crockingirls on FB. They have tons of great recipes.
  • I had the same problem when I started. I had to plan for it. I would save at least 100 cals for night snack. I kept low cal sweets around, fun size M&M's or skinny cow ice cream treats so I could satisfy my sweet tooth. I also really enjoy Celestial Seasonings cinnamon apple spiced tea with a packet of stevia. Eventually I…
  • Yes, to this. I don't log anything that's part of my everyday norm. That's included in my "lightly active" lifestyle, so you already get cals for not being sedentary. Major deep cleaning days and yard work days really get in the way of also having a typical workout, so I log those as exercise for the day. I usually only…
  • bump! just got home from vaca and my garden is overflowing with zucchini. I don't know what I can do with it all.

  • Aren't Nike or other sporting goods companies sponsors? I understand this isn't food, but it's support from an organization that promotes an active lifestyle.
  • bump... I'm looking for running suggestions too. I'm getting close to being able to finish a 5K. I'm finishing up C25K right now.
  • bump
  • Yes, my old AE jeans are probably about 10 years old. They don't have any stretch and held everything in nicely while they fit. They're now way too big.
  • I'm in the same place and I'm getting very frustrated. I'm losing maybe 1/2 lb a week even though my settings should have me at 1 lb. I know I'm working so much harder during exercise, sweat is dripping off me and that hasn't been the case before now. I've also increased my exercise from 3-4 days per week to 6 with longer…
  • I wasn't going to rock the bikini this summer or ever, but my husband encouraged me too. I'm 5'9" and 173. I've had 3 kids, so I have the moderate stretch marks that I was insecure about. I'm glad I listened to my husbands encouraging. I think I look pretty damn good and I'm looking forward to seeing my body continue to…
