  • Anyone older out there and attempting this? I'm 57 and weight about 163 at the moment. I've been walking my 2 miles a day for 10 years and wanted to take it up a notch. This first coupleof times went well and I actually enjoyed it but after the third (when I jogged and walked short intervals, jogging about a mile…
  • I've started jogging a little on my morning dog walks (just over 2 miles). Usually I walk with other people, but on the weekends I walk alonet, so I'd like to move up to jogging most of the 2 miles. Want to take it slowly so it isn't too hard on my 57 year old knees.
  • I'm going to do a little at the end of each schooling session (mostly sitting trot) and build up. Just got the nerve up to do it on my current horse, who has a big trot and bounced a beginner (who had his stirrups) completely off her on the first trot stride. I finally realized that if I could sit her trot with stirrups I…
  • The other thing I like to do is cook fresh or frozen fruit in the microwave for a few minutes so the flavour gets more concentrated, and then top it with 0% fat Greek yoghurt.
  • I walk paths everyday that I know the distance of, so I calculate my speed by how long it takes to do the walk. Generally, when my dog is on the leash, I use the 3 mph figure and when I'm walking more briskly with the dog off leash, the 4 mph. But since I am very used to doing this walk (have been doing it everyday for ten…

  • I'm an older, timid rider and have been queen (not by scores but by attendance record, LOL) of Intro the last few years on a couple of green horses, although I did Training four years ago with my previous been-there, done-that mare, This summer, I hope to make it to Training on my green, young but very sweet mare. I just…

  • Re walking in deep or packed snow (which I've been doing lately too), found this on the Weight Watchers site: "Walking in packed snow increases by 60 percent the calories burned compared to walking on a paved road, while walking in soft snow triples the calories burned compared to walking at the same speed on a treadmill.…

  • I was totally sweating from my "trotting" today, which was mostly done sitting and involved transitions every 10 metres or so, even though it was -5 C in the indoor.
  • Current weight: 170 Hips: 42 Waist: 33 Height: 5'4" Age: 57 Lost 40 pounds last year; want to lose another 15 or 20 this year but maintain muscle mass and not put myself at risk for osteoporosis.
