I'm restarting after a few years and, already, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to repeat Stage 1. I'm only at 40lbs on my squat and, even then, I can only get deep enough to get the tops of my thighs parallel to the floor for 4 reps.

Are you sure you don't have MFP set to record negative calorie adjustments? myfitnesspal.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/787910-why-am-i-receiving-a-negative-fitbit-calorie-adjustment

So she should figure out her TDEE and eat below it. Which is exactly what those calculators will tell her.

iifym.com/iifym-calculator/ ETA - for some reason your numbers disappeared. IIFYM suggests 1376 calories.

I weigh daily and the scale logs automatically. I find it helps for finding the source of fluctuations.
-
That! I loved double doubles until, one day, I checked their nutritional break sown on TH's website. I haven't touched one since. I've found that I get an equal amount of enjoyment from a coffee made in my AeroPress at home with a fraction of the cream and sugar.

It really makes no difference where you're carrying the weight. If you want to lose excess fat, you need to burn more calories than you consume. There are no exercises that will target fat in any one area of your body.
-
I walk a lot (at least 10,000 steps a day) but I wouldn't rely on that as my only exercise.
-
If you want to see a difference, eat maintenance, up your protein goals, and lift heavy.
-
Tone = muscle. And you aren't going to get muscle like Madonna by accident.
-
I have a liver for that.
-
Yep. I wear my fitbit ('cause, steps) but also my hrm. When you log the exercise, fitbit will replace the calories it has calculated for the time with the calories you've inputted.

Sugar.

My advice is to keep what has passed in the past. I wouldn't starve myself to overcome some bad days, not for a pound. Just learn from the experience and move on.
-
Daily, but I don't freak out over minor variations.
-
That's pretty much what I do - set my weight loss goal to zero, my activity level to sedentary and eat maintenance. Then I exercise.
-
"Exercising alone is not enough- Exercising alone will not burn calories. You will not lose weight if you dont cut calories and exercise" - That doesn't even make sense. Of course exercising alone will burn calories. Other than calories burned through your BMR, it's the only way to burn calories.

I've had one since May 2012 and use it religiously as a reminder to get off my but and just, generally, keep my activity level up. If you are looking for a HRM, the newest fitbit has one.
-
I think the issue is that it's just too hard to calculate so 'they' err on the side of caution and say zero. Me, I use a HRM even though I know it's not accurate (I'm a bit obsessive, I know) but don't eat those calories back.

The Nature Valley bars have the same number of calories, half the protein, almost 3x the fat, 3x the sugar, and a third of the fibre. But, yes, they are cheaper.
-
That's the next flavour on my list, enabler.
-
Honestly, I'd rather just take the time to cook them.
-
Eat at whatever frequency you want - if you feel better eating smaller meals more often then that's what you should do. But, in the end, it's the total number of calories that will determine weight loss, not when they are consumed.

That chart works until you throw in a multi-vitamin. Then you can count on your pee to be a fluorescent yellow regardless of how hydrated you are. ;)

I have two teenage boys. Somehow they manage not to eat more than their share of foods that we have in limited quantities despite their age. Though, that may have a lot to do with keeping other food in unlimited quantities on hand. ;)

Not disciplining for fruit eating, disciplining for not sharing. Let me break it down for you - I live in a family of four. I buy four cookies. Oldest child eats all four cookies. Oldest child gets disciplined for being a selfish git. Make sense? Eat some fruit and leave some fruit for someone else. Don't be a selfish git.…
-
I would assume that your children aren't selfish because that is how you raised them. If they did something selfish like, I don't know, eating all of the raspberries, leaving none for anyone else, how would you deal with that? Or do your children just learn through osmosis, no discipline required?
-
No, because there is no difference. Food is 'calorie count'. Exercise is 'calorie count'. BMR is 'calorie count'. Count the calories in, count the calories out.
-
That's what I do - every serving = one gram.

I agree that it's difficult to calculate but compared to 80% diet/20% exercise it's a piece of cake.
