  • No problem! I've noticed that I can never get the puzzle pieces to fit when I start with something more complex, so I've taken to separating the components to fill in the gaps. I also eat eggs like they will go out of style... Good luck!
  • I'll normally focus on eating a mostly protein food (like egg whites or a no-carb protein bar) and then adding a fat (like cheese, or heavy cream in my coffee). I try to make sure there are ~no carbs in what I'm eating, and they'll just add up anyways. http://www.questproteinbar.com/ are like candy (I love the natural…
  • 30/30/40 is your standard vanity diet. I honestly can't find any way this could be considered keto, no matter how much exercise you do, since burning through all those carbs is the opposite of running a fat-based metabolism. Yes, she will lose weight (mainly because that is a stupidly low amount of calories for that much…
  • I started keto wanting to go from 185->140. The first month or two I managed to lose weight by pigging out on bacon and cheese and hard sausages, and then I plateaued. I started counting calories after the first 20 lbs or so and managed to get down to 145/150. Now I'm stuck and fluctuate drastically depending on how clean…
  • I need to pay attention and make notes as to which artificial sweeteners and sugar alcohols I can eat and stay in ketosis, and which ones in what quantities I react to like sugar. In theory, when I'm focusing on counting, I'll aim for <14 of absorbable carbs (out of 1400 cals). And I completely agree with the addiction…
  • I started keto-ish last July because pf my roommate's funky thyroid. Unfortunately, his meds have made him drop 50 lbs over night and now he has to force feed himself so that he doesn't go so low that it screws with the relative med dose. When I started at 185 and cut out carbs (14g max), I would eat ALL OF THE BACON AND…
  • MFP needs "like" buttons. Some say I have the tact of an elephant wearing boxing gloves, but every once in a while I feel a very confusing urge to be proper and crap.
  • Agree with all the above. When I first started, I absolutely hated artificial sweeteners, so I just cut out all sweets from my life and was very strict with keeping my carbs ~14. I lost about five pounds the first week from water retention, but then I stabilized and started losing only a pound or two a week. I also started…

  • lol, cute. Yes, your exercised calories should be included in your daily count, so you can calculate how much your deficit should be (if you want to lose weight).
  • Lol, I wish it was only on the internet. While they are the bulk of it, I do get a lot of "bullying" face to face, even if I have lost 35 lbs in 7 months (which vanity wasn't my main goal, but has helped with my over all "be fit" goal). One close friend went on a fit (through IM) that if I follow fad diets I'm going to…
  • I've been pissing like a racehorse since I went full keto. Something about not having any carbs to absorb water and bloat, or something. I've always been pretty regular, even since before controlling my diet, but I've heard psyllium husk (which I eat just because I love it) is highly recommended. Good luck!
  • That looks fantastic! I totally want to try it out with strawberry ^_^ The thing I've enjoyed most about keto is experimenting with alternative baking.
  • When you don't have carbs at the ready, your body burns fat, and can take extra energy from decomposing proteins. Last night was the only time I've had trouble getting through a practice, but it was a particularly spiteful practice and I hadn't managed to eat or sleep that well all day, either. (75 minutes of push drills…
  • Wonderful blog, Tex, thanks! I wish I had access to all her programs.
  • (just make sure the craving is because you need it, and not because you are addicted to it)
  • Do you have a basic recipe for those almond cookies? I've been making some with almond meal and quinoa flour, but they are very calorically dense.
  • I don't know about prefab shakes, but probably the biggest part of my diet is eggs. Fried, scrambled, boiled, omelet, quiche, you name it! You can mix in some ham, sausage, bacon, cheese, spinach, onion. Yesterday I made "lo mein" with yam noodles and a couple of eggs scrambled in. And then there's Oopsie Bread with cream…
  • I lost about 20 lbs in the first two or three months when I first cut carbs to a minimum, but then I stabilized and have dropped ten lbs in the last three or four months. But I also started limiting my caloric intake and upped my exercise, so I don't know exactly which of the three did the most difference in the beginning.
  • "Oh, it's just a few days. I can enjoy other people's home cooked meals!" Yeah, but I felt like I was poisoned every night. And as soon as I had just one cookie, I was caught and addicted and had to eat the whole plate, and the ice cream, and the coffee, and the Balleys, and... I just can't eat a significant amount of…
  • Never heard of it, but I like the idea! I've made carb-free crepes, substituting cream cheese with herb and garlic Alouete. It was so good! They had a fluffy texture and were very satisfying. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/low-carb-pancake-crepes/ I just found this Oopsie Roll recipe and I think I'll try it this week:…
  • Yeah, I've been using Skating, Ice, General for 90 minutes for a two hour practice, and I'll substitute some Rapid if we do endurance, but other people in my league tend to be a lot more conservative. What I eventually want to do is use the damned Garmin HRM I just bought, if I could just get it to register properly. Until…
  • Hmm, why not? Let me know closer to the date. It would be awesome if they let us skate :D
  • Hmm, challenges. I'm going to say that my challenges revolve around people, one way or the other. When I'm by myself, I'll forget to eat, but if I go out or get together to play D&D, I pig out. If I am at home with my roommate in my standard routine, I can fall perfectly in line. As for exercise, I'm the opposite. I'm…
  • I'd like to believe I'm a solid mid level. I was one of the three fastest skaters in my league earlier this year, and top two (after the olympic speed skaters) in the other league I started, and I can skate at a decent pace until the cows come home, but I suck at running and extended bursts of energy. I want to improve my…
  • Sup y'all! I'm Anya Arson and I have been rostered with the brand new Susquehanna Valley Derby Vixens since August 2010, but got my start by watching HARD since early 2009. People have trouble placing me, since I NSO more than I skate (our league barely had any games last season) at HARD, State College, Mason Dixon, Black…
