  • Heart rate monitor is the way to go. Everyone burns calories differently. I have a Polar too.
  • Apparently the Super Bowl wasn't too bad for me! Looking forward to a good week. I have music rehearsals every night so I won't be tempted to snack at home. • Show it to him. I let my husband pick out his band, and then I got the exact same one. People think it's great that we match!
  • I think we just found them on the internet. Over time we have found our favorites, and ones that are good for certain foods/occasions. We also make our own combinations. A few ideas: 1. Make your own pizza dough and add in some garlic/herbs 2. When it calls for wheat flour (say 2 cups) try substituting 1/2 cup with 7 grain…
  • Jog up and down stairs until fatigue. Chase your dog/cat around the house. Simple things like situps, pushups, squats, lunges. Use an empty milk jug/nalgene full of water as a free weight. See how fast you can clean your entire house. Shovel snow. Spend "quality" time with your lady. Look for fitness programs on cable.
  • A fitness ball is nice to have, as well as strength bands and a kettleball. I have treadmill, elliptical, bike, free weights, tv/dvd/vcr, fitness ball (small + large), bosu, bands, ankle weights. (big basement) Also, thicker carpet mats that can be moved around, and big stereo although I prefer a clip on mp3 player for…
  • Definitely buy a HRM. One that tracks your rate constantly without having to push a button. You will never regret it. I have a Polar F11 with chest strap. It's 3 yrs old so I'm sure there are better models out now, but I love it. I find MFP to actually be low since it doesn't take into account any bursts of intensity, and…
  • It's TOM, so my gain should be gone by next week and then some! I have a feeling this will be a good month :flowerforyou: Jan 3: 155.8 Jan 10: 154.8 Jan 17: 155.8 Jan 24: 155.6 Jan 31: 157.6  ..... Feb 28: 150 (goal) ..... Mar 28: 145 (goal) ..... Apr 25: 140 (goal)
  • I agree with the elliptical. Much better for your joints. I have both (and a recumbent bike), but I prefer the elliptical over all three. I find that I can do a much longer workout. Maybe it's just because running bores me. I like to mix it up and go forward and backwards on the elliptical to target different muscles. And…
  • I wouldn't mind joining this challenge. My Valentine's Day challenge has been sabotoged by back problems so I could use a longer term goal. I had major knee surgery 3 months ago so it is slow going, but I'm hoping the doc gives me the ok for the treadmill next week. And Easter happens to be the day before my anniversary,…
  • Ha! So true!! I find myself comparing music with my 16 yr old neighbor  Black Eyed Peas, Pitbull, Cascada, Basshunter, Lady Gaga. My current favorite is Dynamite by Taio Cruz. But if you don't mind some bad words/lyrics than Levantate by Pitbull is so much fun to get moving to! Everybody Get Up!
  • I would think 16 oz at once 4x per day is not too bad, but chugging all 8 glasses just because you are focused on it wouldn't be smart. You might lose too many electolytes? I personally never only drink 8 oz at once. Seems too small. I have a 20 oz Sobe bottle at work that I fill up several times throught the day and a 16…
  • I was down to 154.8 today. Almost 1 lb from last week. I admit I haven't been as serious as I can be about calories, but I have ramped up the exercise quite a bit. I will be better about water this week as a goal.
  • Down to 154.8 this week. Almost 1 lb and good enough for me considering that my knee is finally healed enough for more serious exercise and I may have gained some muscle as well!
  • No worries. Thanks!! I'll be better about weighing next Monday!
  • I am 5'8" and my goal is 140. I have done it before and know that it is a very healthy weight for me. With more strength training it could be as high as 145.
  • Weighing in a day late. Sorry. I have been out with back pain all week and now it's TOM. So I didn't lose much... Last week 155.8 and this week 155.6. Next week will be better!!
  • Sorry I'm late to weigh in, but I was laid out with back pain yesterday. The back problems combined with TOM didn't make for a good week. Last week I was 155.8 and this week I am 155.6. Oh well. There is always next week, and I hope to get rid of this back problem and exercise more this week.
  • I'm also in several challenges, but the more the merrier! I AM going to lose 10 lbs by VDay! I weigh in on Mondays, so I will check in next week. Today I was 155.8. GW by VDay is 145.0.
  • Did my weigh in today. Most I have weighed in 3 years :explode: 12/27 SW 155.8 2/14 GW 145.0 Good luck everyone!
  • Is it too late to join this challenge? I'm trying to lose 10 lbs by V-Day but I recently had knee surgery so my exercise is pretty limited :grumble: I'll do my best for sure! 12/27 SW 155.8 2/14 GW 145.0
  • Count me in! I don't know how much I can exercise right now because of knee surgery, but this challenge will help my eating habits for sure. And I should be increasing my cardio as time goes on. Bring it on!
  • I'm in the same boat. Knee surgery 6 weeks ago. I can't wait for the day when they tell me I can run slowly or hop on the elliptical! For now I'm just doing ab work and upper body strength training. I like the idea of doing the arm portion of Tae Bo though, might have to try that one out. Looking forward to other…
  • I am also 5'8". A few years ago I went from 182 down to my goal of 140. I did drop as low as 132 at one point, but my husband complained that I was too skinny! I have been plagued by knee injuries since March and finally had surgery in November. I can't exercise at all right now (other than crunches and arm weights) so I…
  • Born and raised in Fort Collins/Loveland. The growth since then is astounding! I'm moved north to lesser developed parts :)
  • I have to say that abs are the hardest for me. That is where the weight goes first when I gain. I can see a noticeable difference with only 5 extra lbs  I must have taken that picture on a good day! I find that a combo of everything (machine cardio, weights, kickboxing, outdoor cardio) and situps everyday works…
  • I have been maintaining for around 5 months now. I wouldn't say that it is difficult, but it is different than losing weight. I don't log my calories as much anymore. I have learned enough by now that I can make a conscious decision to eat/not eat something. I don't work out as many times per week, but I workout harder…
  • Name: Liz Starting Weight: 182.5 Current Weight: 142 Goal Weight: 140 Favorite thing about dieting: Knowing I made the decision to do something good for myself and that I have kept up with it for almost a year. Oh, and my fiance thinks I'm smokin' hot now! Worst thing about dieting: Not much, except being a little obsessed…
  • My guess is that you are losing weight with all the cardio, but also gaining muscle with the strength training. If you are famished try bumping your cals up to 1300-1400. Sounds crazy but it works for plateaus. And the HRM's are very helpful to know exactly how many cals you are burning. Exercise machines tend to…
  • Perfect timing for your post. I have gained about 5 lbs back this month for the exact same reasons. Today I decided to start logging food again and focus on harder workouts. It is very tough to maintain!:grumble:
