I continue to lose slowly. And I am beginning to think that I am retaining water on Sunday nights before weighing in the next morning. I tend to do big workouts on the weekend and drink extra water - maybe my muscles are holding in some of that excess fluid? All I know is that I usually weigh in on Thurs or Fri (and have…

There are also salt substitutes that you can buy to reduce your sodium even more.

Everything is relative and is very dependent on your fitness level. The faster you go on the elliptical the more calories the machine will say you burned regardless of your heart rate. On this site you just enter "elliptical" and don't have a choice of speed so it is generalizing. Your HRM is based on your actual fitness…

That is fantastic Amanda!! Congrats!:flowerforyou:

I have also been interested in this exact same question and whatever answers people have. We have had a record snow year and the spring mountaineering is going to be good and long, followed by several months of great backpacking. I will most likely be burning between 2000 - 4000 cals per day (and when you are backpacking…

I have a cheap elliptical and not one of the nicer gym ones. I find that compared to my HRM the elliptical does overestimate quite a bit, especially when I am going very fast. I actually burn about half the calories that the machine claims. I would assume (perhaps incorrectly) that the nicer models are closer than that.

Not the greatest week for me. It was a water retention week so I knew I wouldn't lose much if anything. I also decided to eat a little extra because I feel like my body is not getting enough food somedays. Start MFP (Nov 07) - 182.5 Last week - 153.4 Today - 154 Goal - 138 The water retention should be over in a few days.…

I think I've hit a plateau so maybe this challenge will help jump start things again...! I'll do this for a week and post next Monday which is my weigh in and measurement day anyway. liz

A 1000 calorie deficit each day sounds like an awful lot to me. If you normally eat 1600 calories then you would drop that down to 600?? That will put your body in starvation mode. I would recommend eating AT LEAST 1200 calories per day on top of your exercise calories. Try reading the post titled "THE answers to THE…

Well said Banks! Everyone should read this. I am just beginning Phase 4 after almost 4 months. And I admit, I am dreading the "last 10 lbs". Luckily it will be summer by then and I will have so many more exercise options outside!

I upped my calories recently because I wasn't losing much weight anymore. I think my metabolism has speeded up with almost 4 months of great exercise and my body isn't getting enough calories. This is my first week of the 200 cal increase, though, so I don't know if it is working or not.... If you are working out a lot…

I am having the same problem as you Amanda. I will lose a decent amount one week and barely anything the next. Very frustrating. Since it is coming up on my "water retention week" I have decided to eat more and see what happens (I'll probably have a gain on Monday anyway). I think my metabolism has speeded up from getting…

Maybe you can wear a headband or a light hat that is soaked in cold water while you work out...And don't wear cotton. It holds in moisture. Look for a "wicking" material like poly propolene. Good luck! And congrats on the black diamonds!!:drinker: I am sad that the ski season is all but over

I have found that to be true for most exercises. My elliptical machine usually shows twice the amount of calories actually burned. However, today I found out that vigarous snowboarding does burn as many as the computers say. Too bad the season is almost over

Kistin, very sorry to hear about your father-in-law:frown: Good luck with everything

Hi Kim! This is just a group of people who have set personal goals for July (kind of like the Memorial Day Challenge). We weigh in and post our results, frustrations:explode: , questions:huh: , successes:drinker: once a week. Kistinbee usually starts it on Monday and people chime in throughout the week. You are very…

Thanks for sharing. My Polar heart monitor shows a BMR right around 1450, but I have been toying with having an assesment done for a second opinion (although here it is twice that price..!) I also went away for a week and ate more than normal calories and still lost 2 lbs. I may very well be starving myself…

Welcome! Kistinbee started this challenge in February and people are doing very well so far. What part of Montana?? Congratulations Bob!! 40 lbs is fantastic!! Keep it up. I haven't really hit a plateau yet either and I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Happy Easter Monday everyone! I think Kistinbee is still on vacation so I will start up this weeks post for her. I had several large dinners that I'm still not sure what the calorie content was, and I went out twice. BUT I also worked out bigtime and didn't take any days off. So I ended up with a very small loss which is…

My reward for losing 30 lbs so far (and 2 months ahead of schedule!) is a trip to Vegas in May to meet up with friends. If I can lose another 7 lbs by then I will treat myself to a massage. My overall goal is to lose my last 15 lbs by mid-June and treat myself to the local 99 day summer gym membership to tone up. Once that…

That Ben Franklin was one wise fellow! He also said "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." Apparently I will be very happy and free tonight as I am headed out soon to the brewpub. Cheers!! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

Congratulations on Elizabeth Ann's progress. We share the same name!! A good friend of mine gave birth to preemie TWINS over 3 months early. Both girls combined weighed only 3 lbs.. And I am happy to say that they just celebrated their 1 Year birthday last Saturday!! Babies can be little miracles.

Congrats on dropping under 200! That's fantastic. 71 pounds is amazing. Keep it up girl!!:flowerforyou:

My thoughts and prayers are with you as well Cowboy:flowerforyou:

If you are looking purely for calorie burn than I recommend the treadmill or elliptical. I have both, and a bike. The bike is barely used unless I am reading a magazine or talking on the phone! I have a Polar heart monitor and have found that running on the treadmill burns more cals than the elliptical, but walking burns…

Tomorrow is the official kickoff day!! Come one, come all and join the MFP Gang for this fitness challenge!

You are an amazing person!:flowerforyou: His loss for not realizing that. Your attitude is very inspirational and I am so glad you are taking a bad situation and turning it around to better yourself. You are meant for a very special person someday..

I am very jealous of your trip. Nicaragua was amazing last year. We are working our way south and hope to hit Ecuador and Peru next. Don't worry about food. You will be eating a lot of rice and beans. I don't know how much international travel you have done, but I can give you some tips since I lived in Africa for 3 years…

I tried to change things up a bit throughout the day just to get a feel for my normal activities (sitting vs walking vs cooking, etc). I worked out a little. As long as you keep track, it doesn't matter if you work out or not. Here are the results that I posted last week: 8am - noon = 350 calories burned (sitting at my…
