  • I've been with big boys and skinny boys and all in, the big boys get my vote. One caveat though.. my big boy doesn't understand having to watch calories and the kind of food I have to eat so that I don't become any bigger than I am. That means he encourages me to eat, thinking this will make me happy. This is not a good…
  • Banks knows all. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/10665-newbies-please-read-me-2nd-edition It's gotta be in there somewhere.
  • Same thing here too... further complicated by tom and getting a cold at the same time (first one in 3.5 years tho). As I've gone down in weight, I notice the plateaux are closer together. I'm 10 lbs from where I'd like to be so if there's a magic bullet, please tell.
  • Oddly enough, it seems like plateaux for me are at set points... usually around every 10 lbs. They seem to be on the 2's now... 182... 172... 162... Keep drinking that water. I'm zigzagging atm to fall off mine.
  • I have the dreaded saggy stomach and no saddle bags, but I'm quite convinced that I would have this stomach (in some form) even if I were 120 lbs or completely emaciated. We can't spot lose.. it comes from all over. Topical creams are a bunch of baloney. Drinking vinegar only makes you make a sour face. Toning or surgery…
  • To put it simply, your body thinks you're killing it. You're not, but bodies aren't known for their common sense. It's all visceral for them. It goes hella slow at lower weights and your body will fight like mad to keep a stable weight. One of its dirty little tricks is water retention. Keep at it. You will definitely lose…
  • I looked upon it as a "diet" instead of a lifelong commitment. I had no outside support (like this website). I was not eating for the long term (vegetable soup for breakfast and dinner and a cheese sandwich for lunch... like that was going to last). I stopped journalling my food and exercise and the weight crept back on.…
  • Congrats! That is just the best feeling in the world!
  • It's happened to me, but at higher weight than yours. I couldn't even imagine being 113 lbs. Why don't you try a week of exercise vacation? It'll drive you nuts, but it might change things up enough to get restarted. Your body (or at least my body) hates this process and holds onto every ounce of water.
  • My next goal is to go from overweight BMI to normal BMI. I figure that's in another half-pound. It could take forever, but the end of the month would do me.
  • If you're under your daily calories, of course you can. Just try to keep your diet balanced. I agree though... make sure you weigh it and that wherever your stash is is out of sight so you don't keep nibbling.
  • With great respect, you're not the only one. I have stretch marks and my skin sags because as my doctor says, "You're not 16 anymore." I don't have children either. It was my choice, just as being here, with all these people sharing that same experience, is my choice. The point is, you can choose to be something different…
  • I know it's a pain sometimes, but if you're really not sure, check with your doctor. MFP will give you a healthy goal imho if you let it set your numbers for you. What you're trying to do is manage a consistent lifestyle, so are you really going to be in the gym 2 hours every day in a year or are you overdoing it now and…
  • I met my husband online because we posted to the same message board for a computer game we both particularly loved. One thing led to another, and this spring we celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary. It can work if you are prepared to do all the right things, like cooperating, tolerating the other person's faults and…
  • Because salt enhances food flavours and makes it taste better AND IT'S CHEAPER THAN OTHER SPICES heh.
  • hm... BFFM ("Best Friend Fat Management" was the first thing that came to mind with that acronym btw) aside, if you want to change your goals, go to "My Home", then "Goals". You can change your goals from there, including carb/prot/fat proportions. The first thing I did was change the setup so that I have six "meals" per…
  • Volunteer for worthy cause. It doesn't have to be working in a soup kitchen. Try spending time with seniors who have nobody else, for example. If you have spare time, join a local charity club like Rotary. They'll find things for you to do and you might just find some friends with similar lifestyles and views! I do lots of…
  • With great respect, he wouldn't be the one making you slim. It would be you. It's all you.
  • Protein helps generally, especially if it's hot. I'm drinking a ton of hot tea these days too, which helps with the hands and feet. Hmmm... [edit] maybe I'll also get a thermometer and see if I've joined the ranks of the undead...
  • I'm thinking learning to wear a sweater isn't the issue when you're wearing four layers of clothing in a house with a thermostat that reads 72 degrees F :p There are lots of threads on this forum about this problem, so it's common. Try looking at this article:…
  • Oh God yes. It's driving me nuts. I'm "camping" right now in a vacation rental cabin (somebody's house on a lake really) and we have a lot of metabolisms to accommodate. I was wearing three tee-shirts under a sweater, a pair of yoga pants with jeans over top and two pairs of socks.. essentially everything in my suitcase. I…
  • I'm generally under what MFP recommends and often quite a bit higher on protein instead. I don't mind this, because fat doesn't fill you up, except with calories. That said, not enough fat affects your digestion (constipation) and how your hair and skin looks and is just as important as water for that.
  • I had "step-downs" in metabolism about every decade, honestly. 20, 30, 40, 50. You adjust
  • I'd like it ALL to be by weight. One universal small unit of measure, like grams. Ounces are just too big and they're also a unit of weight (dry) and volume (liquid).
  • As for me, I found the awesomeness of Korean Seaweed Snacks. 10 pieces of crispy seaweed amounting to *gasp* 5 calories. And they're very high in iodine, should you need that. I've had them natural, japanese spiced (a little sweet) and wasabi. Crunchy!. If I find the straws, I'll try them too.
  • I have gained it all back and more on previous "diets" and diets they were. There were no interwebs at that time and no support systems like these (without having to go to a club and get pig ears put on you when you gained on weekly weighin) nor did I have a good "weigh" of calculating calories or as clear an understanding…
  • "I started off at 159lbs.. so far I am 142lbs but I am still not happy with my arms and legs, as more or less all of the weight has come off my stomach." *jealous jealous jealous soooo jealous* I was 145 at age 25 or so (looong ago) and I -still- had a stomach. Thanks heredity! Why couldn't grandma have had big boobs…
  • Don't want to tell baby to become a criminal at a tender age, definitely. Besides, people with dyslexia will think you're naming her after cosmetics (rogue vs. rouge). Mind you... Abigail the Red... has a nice Viking feel to it. Makes you want to go out and tame dragons. I heard the name Briar Rose the other day and I…
  • I've lost 90+ lbs through walking and calorie counting, so yes, it works. It's a dramatic change as you come down, but it gets easier and easier. The only different thing I do now is hill climbs because I live in a river valley and most of the city is uphill from me. I'm not a gym bunny but I realize I need to do toning as…
  • Japanese, but sashimi, not sushi. Also, miso soup is low cal (but you might have to endure the sodium). Avoid the rice altogether. Also sunomono salad and goma-ae (cooked spinach and peanut salad) are really good and healthy too. Do any of other these places offer salad? Taco salad has a LOT of calories so avoid that too.…
