  • According to the brand new scale I just bought, it's an electric resistance test through your lower body (using tiny amounts of current). As far as I'm concerned, it's magic, even if I don't like what it tells me.
  • This: http://www.scotweb.co.uk/products/kilted-skirt/ It's as classy as they come. I even like the tartan (Ancient Hunting Stewart) in the pic!
  • 245 this time last year now hovering around 180 *grumbles about water retention* Aren't we a big happy family!
  • Some fiber wouldn't hurt either... get whatever's in there out of there!
  • naw.. it'll slow your weight loss... or maybe help it along, since you won't be going into conservation mode (starvation mode's a misnomer).
  • Depo was great for me for 10 years. No noticeable weight gain (attributable to that at least), no mood swings, no pregnancy, and regular bone scans showed no osteo either. Once I went off it, I had a couple of wonky periods but that could have just as easily been related to the weight loss, so I can't say it was…
  • I'm at 1 lb. per week. At my current weight, my daily calories are about 1300, which isn't all that much, and it goes down regularly as I lose weight. I check the reports tab at the top of this website to see if it's working, and it is! I lost 6 lbs last month. The trick seems to be drinking MORE than 8 cups of water. 12…
  • The most important thing to remember is that if it takes *picks a number out of the air* 2000 calories a day to maintain your weight, and you eat 1500 (notice I'm leaving exercise out of the equation), you will lose weight. Your body can't make up the calories out of thin air. Your body HATES change, so it will try to…
  • Well... you stressed out your muscles (normal) so you're retaining some water. Your body isn't used to "dieting" so you're retaining some water. You haven't gone to the bathroom (no.2) at exactly the right time. It's TOM and your body perceives that as a stress so you're retaining water. You're not drinking enough water…
  • Ditto on the being cold. I have a space heater in my office to keep the chill away. Mainly it's hands and feet. Whoever thought "Hell" would be hot never lost weight! I'm thinking also that places that get very warm probably won't seem nearly as warm at goal weight. I'll have to go investigate. I haven't reached my goal…
  • Sounds like your doctor should have been a lab researcher and not work on anything that needs more bedside manner than rats. Have you had a word with the insurer about this doctor? Perhaps you're not the only one who's been treated badly. Also, and this is harder, have you told him how you feel? He may not know the effect…
  • lol half a newborn giraffe!
  • Keep the faith. I'm down 65 lbs and I can't tell the difference. I have to learn how to see the difference. Here's what I do know, though. When you're down about 30 lbs. women will notice. When you're down 40 lbs. men will notice. Don't look. Take a bath. How much bigger is the bathtub? I had a bath last night and when I…
  • Close as well. 5'6" (how on earth do you get 1/2s and 3/4s?) 180 size 14 (Canada), but my bottom tends to lose before my top, which hasn't anything to do with "the girls", only ribcage size, I think. Here's something to ponder... you know how people say grab yourself around the wrist to measure whether your frame is small,…
  • I'm currently at 1320 cal/day (without exercise cals) to lose 1 lb. per week, and it's working. That's based on the MFP program and not on anything weird I made up myself. One thing I'm noticing is not what I expected. If you don't eat enough fat, your body thinks it's starving and holds onto the water, so make sure you're…
  • You need to forgive yourself, firstly. One lapse does not a failure make. Secondly, you might want to consider eating no starches for a while. They actually make you hungry. I'm especially talking about rice, potatoes, bread and pasta. I had to do it and it was hard. It's not hard now. Thirdly, don't eat it if you don't…
  • I had pancreatitis associated with a gallbladder that was literally full of sand, and ultrasound didn't pick up the problem. I sympathize with you.. I suffered with it for six months and wound up in the hospital with surgery because they couldn't tell what was wrong with me. The good news was that I didn't lose my pancreas…
  • Nothing you'd likely remember hearing. I'm so bored of modern stuff. Vera Lynn - We'll Meet Again Mills Brothers - If I didn't care, Basin Street Blues Bob Crosby and the Bobcats - pretty much anything he did Fats Waller - Kitten on the Keys Louis Prima - Just a Gigolo Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Baby It's Cold…
  • Try the 99% Lindt. It has the equivalent of the surgeon general's warning on it. "If you haven't tried this kind of chocolate before, take it slow" or words to the effect. The manganese in the chocolate is indispensible and I find that it calms me down when nothing else will. One square (12 cal.) is usually enough.
  • I'm finding that things I would have adored to have 6 months ago I just can't justify anymore. Case in point: pecan tart with chocolate crust. 340 cals. I just can't do it. I could have 2 bowls of oatmeal for that, or a full dinner (chicken breast and veggies). Fruit and veggies are easiest but you still need the protein…
  • Every morning, first thing in the morning, and then I log it on MFP. It keeps me honest and logging in. Also, I'm watching for fluctuations over time because there might very well be a pattern (*ahem*tom*ahem*) to the minor ups and more generally downs. My scale weighs in 0.2 increments only, though.
  • I have the same problem. I've lost 60 pounds and I see no change in the mirror, probably because I've been looking in the mirror every day and the day-to-day difference isn't much. But... I can see it in photos now (and I've posted a before with my hubby and an after from about 1 month ago). There's definitely a…
  • Feh, everybody's entitled to their opinion. What I know is that I haven't weighed what I weigh now since I was in university eons ago and I squoze my cheeks into size 14s today. From that perspective, this is a diet site. I need help first and foremost with how and what to eat. That's where everything starts for me. That…
  • LATTE IN A BEER MUG (12 oz. skim milk & 4 oz. espresso, yes I'm awake so awake.. ZOOOOOMMMMMM) 125cal Quaker Instant Oatmeal Sugar Reduced Cinnamon & Brown Sugar (one package) 120 cal Midmorning snack is usually a piece of fruit but I confess it could as easily be radishes or a tomato.
  • or... if the rice is too much.... Sashimi! I think I'm part cat *nod*
  • I'm 5'6" and my goal weight is... not a clue. I weighed 135 at age 11. In my early 20s, I lost 65 lbs and got down to 145 lbs. In my mind's eye, which clearly needed vision surgery, I looked exactly the same at 210 as I did at 145. I can't even explain that, but it needs to be fixed in a different way, or I won't maintain…
  • Scale dancing... I do it. I admit it. I do it every day because the scale is a nasty sneaky sob that wants to make me feel bad. I get on the scale like I'm one inch taller than I really am and then float 1/2" above the scale. At least that's how it looks in my head. Scale dancing is a state of mind. If it takes 4 tries,…
  • I think the message is really: "There is no quick fix. You have to eat or your body goes into conservation mode which is exactly what you don't want. Eat sensibly for your goal weight and get to your goal weight in a way that doesn't put your body into shock." Not everybody says it the same way. I got it anyway.
  • "normal" bp was 60 pounds heavier lol. And I'm 51, so no spring chicken. I got the answer tho, I think. I was more worried what might happen if it goes lower because I'm nowhere near my goal weight yet. I have the dishiest doctor in the world, so no fear that I wouldn't go see him about this
