  • Sweet potato is awesome in a curry - so, fry up some onion/garlic with some curry paste, add sweet potato cubes, a can of tomatoes & some coconut milk and chuck in some chickpeas, cook for 30 minutes. I also use sweet potato cubes in mexican food like burritos, chilli, fajitas etc. edit! Here's a recipe for butternut…
  • Hey! If you want to go old-skool, I HIGHLY recommend the cookbook "River Cottage Veg Everyday" by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. He's a meat-eater who decided to try going vegetarian for a summer and the recipes are amazing. Um... also, I have a vegetarian cookery blog *looks at feet*. I'm pretty sure no-one reads it but I…
  • Jamie Oliver's website is great, particularly his 15 minute meals recipes because they're calorie conscious.
  • Hi everyone, Sorry for the late response, I've been on vacation (gaining 3 kg in 5 days, yay me)!! Thanks for all the replies, very helpful. Jo
  • I tend to fall off the wagon and gain weight over the winter. Something about the shorter days and bad weather makes me want to eat :-) If it happens, it happens; you can't go back and change it. All you can do is move forward and try to make better choices. Take each day as it comes and each meal as a step at a time.…
  • I like cutting it into cubes and using it in a vegetable curry, or making it into soup with some coconut milk and ginger : )
  • Cheers chaps :-) I got a saddle with springs under it and a wider seat and it's helping loads.
  • I bought a mountain bike the other week - my other half is mad on cycling and I wanted to be able to join in : ) Anyway - not to put too fine a point on it, but YOWZA it hurts! Y'know...downstairs :-D Any cycling gals got any tips for minimising the agony?
  • I've started cycling and hiking recently, but I do still use my Wii when the weather's rubbish :-) I love EA Active 2 with the heart rate monitor. I do 40 minutes (including warm up and cool down) of Step aerobics using EA Active 2 and a step I got off amazon. That burns around 350 calories and has done wonders for my leg…
  • I go through phases of making soup for the week and having that, and making a quick salad for lunch every day. My favourite salad is spinach (or spinach, watercress & rocket), sun dried tomatoes, cooked chicken bits, carrot sticks, a little bit of crumbled up feta cheese, a blob of pesto and a spoon of extra virgin olive…
  • Yep, love the show. The personal trainers seem like really lovely people and it's always interesting to see the dynamic between the kid and their family when it comes to diet and exercise.
  • Hiya. I feel your pain, I did a similar thing. Got complacent and went back to my old ways. This time I'm trying to think of it as a change for life and not just "losing weight until I reach a target weight". For what it's worth, MFP is really helping me along. It keeps me aware of what I'm eating and it motivates me to…

  • I love wholewheat pasta. It's a slightly different texture/taste to normal pasta, but you get used to it. I prefer it now - white pasta doesn't agree with me :-) Brown rice - again, I prefer it now. It's chewier and nuttier in taste than white rice and takes longer to cook.
  • My new favourite dinner - http://www.channel4.com/4food/recipes/tv-show/cook-yourself-thin-recipes/chicken-courgette-and-lemon-pasta-bake-recipe If you're american, a courgette is a zucchini, I believe :-) I changed the recipe slightly - I added fine beans for a bit of texture, I made courgette ribbons instead of grating…
  • Hi! I've found that a combination of using MFP (planning meals in advance and knowing exactly how much I can eat), and keeping myself busy in the evenings has helped me rein in my snacking. I get dinner going as soon as I get home from work, eat, tidy up, and then go and do something like play my flute or a bit of German…
  • I have the Wii Zumba - it's good, but you do need a lot of space and I think it would be easier if you were doing it on a hard floor. I recommend EA Sport ACtive 2. It includes a heart rate monitor and lots of different ways to exercise. You can take the 9-week course, which gets gradually more difficult as you go along,…
  • I use EA Active 2 for the Wii. It comes with a heart monitor and resistance band, it's basically a personal trainer - type work out in your living room. I do it first thing in the morning about four times a week, then at the weekends sometimes I'll do a step class on the game as well. I'm not a sporty person and am totally…
