  • As a member of the registry knowing that my actions will be observed doesn't really have an impact on what I eat or how much I exercise. When you've done this as long as I have you realize this is about you and not about what others think. The registry studies those of us who have been successful in an attempt to…
  • I've been a part of the registry for a few years now and have maintained a 100 pounds loss for several years. Maintaining a loss is about a balance between exercise and diet. Look, one thing I hear all the time and it is 110% true is you can't outrun a bad diet. I exercise at least one hour per day, I eat healthy most of…
  • Back in March I was in Rome for a marathon and then we went to Ireland for a few days. Every meal was a free for all  I get what your saying, I just never seem to be able to practice it on vacation LOL
  • 110% this! I've been maintaining a 100 pound loss for several years now and I never worry about what I eat when on vacation. I'm on vacation and it is perfectly ok to indulge and enjoy :) Sure I come home and I'm up a few pounds but in a few weeks I'm right back down. If you are really worried then eat lots of fruit and…
  • I've kept this weight off a long time but I still have those negative thoughts. I still sometimes look in the mirror and say OMG you're so fat. I know I'm not and yet sometimes I don't but you keep moving forward towards your goals :)
  • I so agree! It isn't the brownies, cookies, donuts or other crap that I know will be at our weekly Wednesday meetings, it's the unexpected. It's the vendor who says hey I'll buy lunch and now I have to change gears and find something on the menu that I can have. I appreciate the thought, I really do but I plan my day of…
  • Yep I'm rooting for Pacquiao too! Mayweather is a local boy and as much as I'd love to root for him, I would actually have to respect and like him first :) Hopefully Saturday will go your way!
  • Awesome job! I remember my first thanks but no thanks moment and it was then I knew I could totally do this. It will get easier to say no too :)
  • I think you'll like it! And let me just say nice arms :) I lift and I have nicely toned, muscular arms to show for it but damn sister, those are awesome!
  • I'm not sure they need to be spot on. I use a Garmin for running and an older Garmin I have for cycling so I'm not too worried about whether my Zip is dead on. I use it to be sure I'm getting in my steps for the day and I'm burning sufficient calories above what I burn with daily exercise. I do think they can be highly…

  • I've been there! I went from obese and sedentary to losing the weight, keeping it off for years and running marathons :) Strength training is a great all around exercise. Walking, which you know already, is a great exercise and anyone can do it. The key is to find something YOU really want to do. For me it was running,…
  • I've worked with a trainer on and off. I get help, learn some routines and then do my own thing. When I need to shake things up I train with him again and he is totally worth the money! If you're getting the results you're after that is all that really matters :)
  • That is awesome!!!!!!
  • I've lost and kept off a lot of weight for years and never once did I give up bread :)
  • I've been there! CrazyJerseygirl is right, read the success threads. Even now I find the success of other people to be VERY inspirational. I've been doing this a long time but I still have hard days where I struggle to eat right and at times I fall down hard but you pick yourself right back up and start again. If you like…
  • 5'2 130 pounds, size 1. I've maintained this for several years. I do sometimes get that number down to about 125 if I'm training for a long distance race but that is FAR too thin for me. The husband said he would be worried if he didn't see all the food I consume ;) I have a ton of muscle mass so I'm trying to be less…
  • I have a fab chiropractor! He's awesome :) His practice, family run for over 50 years, advocates a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise. I used to suffer horrible headaches, some were very debilitating, so I started to go for that and now rarely have headaches. Then I lost a lot of weight, started running and now I…
  • Honey and some balsamic vinaigrette is awesome :D
  • I'm a huge fan of straight up balsamic vinaigrette. Sometimes I mix up some of it with a little olive oil so it sticks to the veggies better. I know I shouldn't but I also love some bottled dressings although I try to stick to making my own :)
  • I add PB2 in my oatmeal. My husband loves PB so I mixed some up and put it in his lunch one day. He didn't even notice :) I eat both and as someone said, everything is ok in moderation.
  • It's just another day for us but when I was younger we always had the whole traditional spread. I might make homemade pizza :)
  • That's awesome! I was actually on my way to running my best marathon but it kind of fell apart for me. I ran in Rome last Sunday (the 22nd) and totally did not anticipate how hard running on cobblestone would be on my body. Between that and the rain I was 10 minutes off my best time but found out later the winner and…
  • I have a Zip and I love it. I agree with Payne though, it depends on what you're looking to get out of it. I run but I use my Garmin 220 for that however I do wear my Zip just to keep track of steps. I would highly recommend it if you want something simple and small :)
  • Last Sunday I ran my fourth marathon and a good majority of my training runs were on the treadmill. With snow and ice there wasn't much of a choice most weekends so I put in some movies, watched TV and did whatever necessary to get through it. Two of my four 20 milers were on the treadmill so I proved to myself I'm pretty…
  • I'm not a fan of a gym dictating to me what I can and cannot wear when I work out. I typically wear a tank top with thin shoulder straps and sometimes if I'm forced to use a treadmill I run in a sports bra and compression shorts. With that said, it is their gym, they can have all the rules they like and I can choose not to…
  • Exactly! What I eat is what I eat and it isn't up for debate! I've been down that road and I'm just not willing to do it again. Here's the thing, I've kept this weight off for years so what I'm doing works really well for me. What I eat, or how much I eat, may not work for someone else and they may feel the need to judge…
  • This a thousand times! I've kept off 100 plus pounds for 7 or so years by using moderation. I do eat as clean as I can, trying to keep it healthy the majority of the time but Saturdays are my day off from not only logging but I eat what I want. I'm not afraid to eat pizza or really any food. I follow the everything in…
  • Just like everyone is saying, it's mostly water. I put on 6 pounds when I was in Mexico and took it back off pretty quickly. I'm headed to Rome in a couple of weeks and I have no plans on logging calories and eating what I want because I know I'll get back on track once I get home :)
