I looked at your food diary, and you are doing really great. Down 10% - that's awesome. But I think you should be losing more than a pound a week, given your efforts. I think you mentioned in your other posts that you have been diagnosed with PCOS, so your metabolism is going to be stubborn. You may want to look at the…

5'5" - at 163 I wore a size 10. At current 158 I can fit into my size 8s but they are tight. At 155 they will fit and I will wear them. At 150 they will be loose. At 147 I will be able to zip my size 6s. At 142 size 6s will fit perfectly -- and mom will say I'm looking thin. :-)

Well I'm up a pound today. But that's okay. I'm eating right on plan and trusting it will work the way it has done before. Tonight I'm making sausage and peppers. Next week I'm having crustless quiche for breakfasts, wedge of iceberg lettuce with full fat blue cheese dressing and crumbled bacon for lunches, beef in…

Oh, what a great idea! Shrimp in butter sauce. Maybe I'll make that for Valentine's Day. I'm hoping by Vday I'll have met my 10 pound goal and can start to add a few carbs -- like a glass of red wine!

Wow, that is a challenge! whey shake yogurt cottage cheese

I agree! If I'm going to do this, I'm going to do the full press and avoid treats and cheats. I am doing >20 carbs a day for the next 7 days, then I'm going to add some. I'm looking forward to more veggies, some full fat yogurt and beans. I've also been reading up on nutritional ketosis after seeing the film Fat Head. I'm…

I'm on atkins induction right now (the 1972 version), but I'm reading up on Nutritional Ketosis. I may segueway into that. Following Tom Nought's Fat Head movie/site.

Hi Shanasv, Its my personal view that the whole "net" carb thing just supports their product line. When I add those supposedly low net carb treats, my cravings come back. It just doesn't work for me. Tomorrow will start my second week of "induction". I'm looking forward to it. I'm going to make a crustless quiche and have…

For an informed audience, I agree he falls short. For people who read, who actively seek health information, and who know enough to ask where's the research backing this. But it never ceases to astonish me the very basics that the average person doesn't know. For example, I feel like we editors repeat ad nauseum…

I also use it in place of noodles in lasagna. Slice lengthwise and lay flat on oiled baking sheet. Brush tops with oil. Bake at 375 for about 30 minutes (turning it over once). If you have time to make it in advance and refrigerate it over night, it is much more tender the next day.

Sarah, on the low days, do you have to fast completely? Or you eat normally? After I finish losing a quick 10 on low carb, I am looking to try some type of cycling of low and high days.

48 this year - want to enter my fifties in my best shape ever. My goal is to lose 18 pounds by summer -- and keep it off!

Yes, I do boot camp M/W/F and spin class T/TH and yoga on the weekends. I am definitely feeling weaker during induction. I can't lift as heavy dumbells in bootcamp and I'm feeling it in my leg muscles on the hills in spin class. It can be both a good and bad sign. Good because it means you are in ketosis. You are so low…

I look at pictures of me at my best weight through the years. But I also look at pictures of people who are fitter than me, especially those around my height and age.

As a health editor, I agree with many points in the article -- especially that he has "magical" views on alternative medicine. However, I have to give him this: He breaks down concepts that are difficult for a general audience to understand and leaves them with easy to grasp takeaways. Sure, he uses sensationalist displays…

This is a great tip. Everything tastes nasty after toothpaste.

Great results in just 3 months!

Totally agree. I just swap ground turkey for beef in all my mom's recipes (Lasagna, Meat Loaf, Stuffed Green Peppers, etc.) and I used low-fat cheeses. Ground turkey tip: When you are browning the meat, stir in a TBSP of Better Than Bouillon - Beef. He will not know the difference!

I cannot get over how much younger you look. You look great! Congratulations.

As someone above already said, there is no spot reducing. But weight loss will reduce your leg size along with your other parts. So keep at your goal. You will get there! I have big calves and thighs -- and I have come to love them for their shape and muscularity. These legs ground me! The older you get, the more you…

I'm having chicken caesar with full fat dressing and shredded parmesan. Yum!

Couldn't have said it better. It's about what works for YOU!

I agree. I'm drinking no alcohol right now while I'm trying to lose weight. My next drink will be a glass of red wine. Definitely missing it. For now I have a diet tonic with lime.

I don't eat them. I don't subscribe to the "net carb" theory.

Hey Spartan, Thanks for the tip about coconut oil. I've been feeling the hills in spin class and lifting lighter. I did not know about gluconeogenesis. And I don't want to lose muscle.

I'm losing a pound a day -- but I'm doing the 1972 version of Atkins Induction. It's a lot stricter -- just meat and eggs and cheese really with a few cups of lettuce -- but by day 2 or 3 hunger/cravings completely turn off and the weight just melts off you. I'm going to try to sustain it two weeks, then turn to carb…

I get toe cramps, mostly at night but sometimes after cycling. Morton's Lite Salt has added potassium. That has really helped me. The cramps are caused by water leaving your muscles, so staying hydrated helps too. Good luck! The cramps really suck!

I'm doing the 1972 version of Atkins, so I don't even count calories -- though it would be interesting as a point of comparison with other types of eating plans. '72 induction counts only carbs -- "net" wasn't invented yet. Thing is, I tried the newer version of Atkins using "net" and I didn't lose substantial amount of…

Diet soda and liquor really are your best bet. After induction, Atkins allowed a glass of red wine with dinner. I am looking forward to that day!
