  • Amazing -- you are a true inspiration!
  • Chicken ceasar with full fat dressing and shredded parmesan - yum. (Atkins '72)
  • Agree, 1 pound of muscle weighs 1 pound; 1 pound of fat weighs 1 pound. However, when a person says I'm not losing weight this week, maybe I'm gaining muscle, that could be true.
  • You go, Girl! What a wonderful feeling.
  • I don't think it matters. I'm on my third round in 10 years, and it's working. I'm on day 4 and down 5.6 pounds. But I'm doing the strict 1972 version. Back then it was counting carbs not "net" carbs. No bars or treats. The old version turns hunger and cravings completely off. You have to make yourself eat.
  • People who do not wash their hands after using the toilet. Yes, there is a woman at my gym who comes out of the stall wearing her "lifting gloves" and talking on the phone. Doesn't wash her hands. Heads right back to the weights floor.
  • Styront, don't get discouraged. Dr. Atkins wrote the tape measure is a better friend than the scale. I think the fact that your clothes are loose is a great motivator! Could be water fluctuation or maybe getting "backed up" because of low fiber -- common on the induction week. If it's the latter, a cup of Smooth Move tea…
  • Wine spritzer and light beer are the lowest calories. If I'm in the mood for something stronger I bring diet soda in my tote bag and buy shots. The bartenders never mind because I'm still paying for the shots. Just ask for a tall glass with ice.
  • Add a 1/2 tsp of coconut oil to your morning coffee. On Atkins, the more fat you eat the more fat you lose. Has no carbs but has the added benefit of helping with the "plumbing".
  • Hi Gwenna, I am doing the Atkins 1972 book -- it was stricter and didn't allow all the atkins bars and such (they didn't exist yet). I'm on day 4 and have lost 5 pounds. I have done this diet before -- and it works. The trick is when you start to add carbs back after induction... that's when most people slip back into…
  • In a blender: Scoop of Whey Tablespoon of peanut butter 1/2 banana Handful of baby spinach 6 ounces water 4 ice cubes Sounds terrible but it's delicious.
  • I just started. I am down 3.5 lbs since saturday -- still on the low-carb days.
  • I've tried Weight Watchers and Lose It. This one is the best so far for me. WW you have to think "points" not calories so I don't feel I was learning anything I could use on my own in real life. My friends had good success with Lose It and it is similar to this site in the food diary and exercise diary, but it doesn't have…
  • I'm on Day 3. I've done this before and I generally lose 6-8 pounds the first two weeks. This is a typical day: Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled with a tsp of heavy cream, coffee w/cream Lunch: grilled chicken ceasar salad with full fat dressing and a tablespoon of shredded parm Dinner: lettuce wraps with tex-mex spiced ground…
  • Chicken breast, lean ground turkey, chicken or turkey lunch meats, ww sandwich thins, baby spinach, avocados, bananas, blueberries, greek yogurt, oatmeal, hummus, carrots, eggs, whey protein shake powder, diet fruit punch mix, water, slender soy vanilla flavor, canned tomatoes, whole wheat pasta, cottage cheese, whole…
  • I use Stevia. It is all natural, extracted from a leaf of a plant that grows in south america. It is supposed to be 300x sweeter than suger. For years, Stevia was not allowed to be sold in the U.S. because lobbyists for the chemical sweeteners fought it and the FDA caved. But now those same companies that own sweet & low…
  • Hey, I hope you will keep trying and not give up. 140 is my ideal weight as well, and I have 20 more pounds to lose to get there. I had a foot injury, a stress fracture at the top of my foot and arch, so I know what you are talking about. Here's what works for me. I cycle three times a week and weight lift the other 2 days…
  • Unless they are sitting on a machine I'm waiting for and doing something other than lifting, I cut them some slack. The ladies lifting 5 pounds, the 80 year olds in too-tight shorts, it's all good. I like to see people trying to be healthy, even if it seems to you and me like they are just going through the motions. But…
  • baked sweet potato with salt and chili powder.
  • I saw this on america's test kitchen cooking show... Pierce holes in some small yukon gold potatoes and place them on a cooking sheet resting in about a quarter inch of water that's been seasoned with salt and rosemary. (I know - weird!) Bake about 30-40 minutes until potatoes are tender to the fork. Remove pan from oven…

  • I agree! It really is fun. It doesn't feel like something I "have to do". Do you get to learn actual dance steps? Like, I had heard of the merengue, but never knew how to do it until now. We also learn some hip-hop, which is fun.
  • Thanks for the pic! I kept trying to post one but realized I had grabbed an html tag.

  • You might try Better 'n' Peanut Butter. It's a little sweet to my taste but I have friends who swear by it. www.betternpeanutbutter.com/
  • Wow! I applaud your motivation! Your progress is really awesome. But longterm, I would agree with others here that you are not eating enough to sustain your body in a healthful way. When the calculator takes into account your height, weight, age, the figure it comes up with represents the calories that your body needs to…
  • On your bagel days, when you are pressed for time, try a few slices of oven roasted turkey lunchmeat (look for low sodium no nitrites if you can) on whole wheat with spinach leaves instead of lettuce. Baby spinach stays fresh in the fridge longer than lettuce and packs more nutrition punch. If you've got the calories to…
  • I'm 5'5. At 145 I look very fit and I like the way my clothes fit. At 140 my family starts to worry about me.
  • If your shoulder hurts, do something else. Run or spin -- whatever burns calories. Spin burns the most for me. Don't do that other Cr** until you're a few weeks in, and when your shoulder has healed. It's all about the burn in beginning. Do I want to limit myself to 1300 calories or do I want to eat 1800. That's the…
  • Hey, Chowder, I really get you. In my case, I like good wine. People suggest watering it down, like with wine spritzers, but to me, that sucks. My advice is to to have the thing you really want but to use "exercise" earned calories to offset it. And to have the real thing. It's just more satisfying that way. Enjoy every…
