I log my whole day when I first get up in the morning, print it out and put it in my pocket. It does not really take that long. I also leave a few hundred calories open for any late night snacking that creeps up on me. At the end of the day I go back and make all the necessary changes. Just log everything even condiments…

Every pound of body weight yields 5 pounds of force on the knee. So if you are say 20 pounds overweight that's 100 extra pounds of force on them. I took a 1 hour zumba class and wore my HRM. Great workout! My heart rate stayed way up the whole time. I burned 700 calories in one hour. Everyone is different though. My HRM is set to my height, weight, sex and age.

Yes a food scale is a must. You can greatly underestimate calorie dense food without one. Peanut butter is a good example.
