49 this month. I am stronger and in better health than when I was in my 30's

I have eaten a ketogenic diet for over a year. It is a way of life. I try to eat as clean as possible. I lost over 150 lbs prior to switching to this way of eating. I do it for health reasons. I have now decided to drop a few pounds so I am adjusting my macros a bit. I don't buy into the super high fats that some do. I am…

VSG 12/15. Heaviest 309, current 160. 48y.o and 5'5". I maintain around 1800-2000. Decided to get the last 10lbs off so I am dropping to 1400-1600.

I love taboule. What a great sub for the bulgur wheat! I am definitely going to do this.

My high carb days are set at: 160g protein 160g carb and 34g fat. My low days are set at 125g pro 30 carb ( I try to keep net carbs around 20) and 110g fat. I have seen a lot of people do low carb/low fat on their low carb days but that doesn't work for me. I need the fat to fill me and give me energy and I drop the fat…

I do high carb/low fat on weight lifting days (Sun, Tue and Fri) and LCHF on the other 4 days (Mon, Wed, Th, Sat).

My meals all focus around protein first. Watch the high fat stuff since fat is 9 calories per gram while carbs and protein are only 4. I like the Dannon light and fit greek yogurt because the carbs are low and no fat. Cheese and nuts are high fat and not a lot of protein so eat those sparingly. Liquid eggs whites are great…

There is no need to start with machines. Some of the machines are ok but use them to supplement your workout. Planet fitness doesn't have good trainers and their free weights are limited. It is a good place to start but if you get into lifting, you will outgrow them quickly. Each planet fitness is different in what they…

Eat protein with all meals and snacks. For me, it is certain carbs that affect me especially in the morning. If I have certain things in an empty stomach my blood sugar drops a few hours later and I am shaky most of the day. It doesn't even matter what I eat after it. Most days the first thing I have is a protein shake.…

You will need to increase those calories as your activity increases and it will vary based on what type of activity you are doing. It will also depend on if you are still looking to lose or are in maintenance. You really need to see how your body responds and adjust as needed. As you build muscle, your body will burn more…

Thank you! I have lost about 140 lbs. I lost about 60 before surgery and 80 in the 8 months following surgery.

I wear compression running pants. They come up nice and high too. As far as arms, I just always wear sleeves

Protein shake. I love Dymatize ISO cinnamon bun. You could probably do 1/2 banana or something light with it. I like a ricecake with PB

Baked blueberry oat muffins

I wanted to clarify that this is a bariatric group bet. We were thinking it was a fun way to get people motivated who have stopped losing or even gained. There is a no loss guarantee so if the whole group loses the weight, then you all get your money back (their fee is waived).
-
This is being set up by a friend who has had bariatric surgery. This a is specifically for those who had surgery. We all know it going in. Yes if everyone loses, you will get back what you put in. If there is a high number of winners, they forfeit the fee. If there is a large group and a smaller group of winners, they take…

Greek yogurt, hemp hearts and blueberries. Mix with oats and a little waterand let it sit overnight no need to cook (although I have eaten right away too). Other things I like to add in are Qia ( a mix of chia, hemp and buckwheat), berries, nuts, almond, bananas and cinnamon

That is awesome. My job has lots of wellness perks. It sure helps :)

Good for you for catching things quickly. First of all you need to give yourself a lot of credit. You have done well and have been through a lot. Honestly, I can gain 6 lbs in any given week due to normal fluctuations as well as weightlifting/muscle repair so you will be right back where you wanted in no time. When we have…

There are always those that have to bring people down. I am very self conscious about my loose skin but for the most part it is hidden. People will always find something to make fun of. If that's all they've got, then I'm doing alright :). Keep doing what you are doing and hold your head up high!

I think your plan for eating has to be what works for you. If this is it, then do it. Just don't let night time eating be junk. I don't think your body detests carbs. Your body will hold on to 3gm of water for every 1 gm of carbs stored. As a runner you know how important it is to store glycogen. As for being thinner, that…

aylajane thanks for sharing your story. You are spot on! I have been lifting since I was cleared. My biggest fear was losing muscle which like you said, is pretty typical of WLS patients (Very low calories and no focus on maintaining/building muscle). When you start out, it is 90% surgery and 10% you. As you lose muscle,…

You have done well. Life sometimes gets in the way but what makes us successful is adapting. I know you will figure it out and hit that goal again. I agree, weight is just a number. I think when we throw a goal out there, we don't really know what that looks like. Eat healthy, live health and the rest falls into place.…

I love skinnytaste.com She has great recipes and the nutrition info.

I used to take Centrum chewable but now I just take a regular non chewable multi. For calcium, I take Celebrate Citrate wafers (they are not as good as the chews but much more financially manageable). Grim is right about the carbonate, you won't absorb it. Don't let people tell you their levels are fine because calcium…

Couch to 5k. It really helped me with mine. If you have trouble, just repeat days if needed.

Definitely start now. If you have never lifted, maybe start with the machines until you get the form down. Some gyms offer some free training or orientation. If you are limited in time, then alternate cardio with weights. I do 3 days weights and run 3 days. Whatever you will stick to. Good luck.

Congratulations on your success. You are such an inspiration.
