  • I eat primal, I run, I swim, I lift heavy things. Went to the recruiters last Friday. The USN was completely uninterested in me until I mentioned I had a bachelors degree. Then he perked up but said he could not do anything for me until I lost another 20ish lbs or 5ish inches on my waist. The USMC said the same thing but…
  • The USMC is part of the USN though. So doesn't that mean Tony's right and we do have the coolest uniforms...?
  • I like ships so the USN interests me. That said I've been a fat kid since middle school so I wanted to pick the most physically demanding services to join in order to show that I can do it. That's why I'm focusing on the USMC. Fallback being the USN or USAF.
  • I have to work. Otherwise I'd be there.
  • You spelled challenge wrong.... Name: Seth Corvus Age: 24 Gender: Male Branch: Navy Sub Branch: USMC 3 Mile run: 49 min Pull Ups: 1 Situps: 83/2 mins Goal: 3 mile run: 18 min Pull ups: 20 Situps: 100/2 mins
  • I can post updates here. Or we could start talking again.... My feed though is probably the best bet 'cause I'd be logging the workouts if nothing else. Also these forums are not the best for extended conversations since it gives you no alert that someone's posted anything.
  • Thanks Tim! So what have you been up to for the last four months?
  • Also the whole calorie in/calorie out dynamic is so flawed it's amazing that it's still being touted as the end all of weight loss. It utterly ignores the nutrient value and composition of the foods ingested. 3500 cals of sucrose will raise your weight far more than 3500 cals of protein. The sucrose will drive an insulin…
  • Originally from Wurtemburg but have spent most of my life in NC. Not sure the numbers off the top of my head but I'm looking into either a navy Corpsman position with a submarine assignement eventually, or something with Marine or Navy Intelligence. With my work experience though I'll probably end up as an admin clerk…
  • 6'2", need to lose at least another 68 lbs. to enlist. Primal to lose the weight, C25K to get in running condition, TC 3-22-20 to get ready for the pt test, swimming for overall body tone, and lifting heavy for strength with iCorps and other resources for building warrior knowledge.
  • 24, in NC. Started out last January needing to lose 130 lbs to enlist. Already down 62 so almost half way there. I plan on joining either the Navy direct as a corpsmen or entering the USMC and working with intelligence. At first I was pting an absurd amount, 3-4 mile swims and 2-3 mile runs a day, but only lost about…
  • As I understand it: Carb flu is the euphemism used to describe the side effects of the transitional phase from carbohydrate to fat as the principle macronutrient used in the body. Basically the period before ketosis starts when your body thinks it's undernourished because it's not getting tons of sugar to burn. My symptoms…
  • I do a ketogenic version of primal. It's kind of amazing past the first few days. I first tried it a month or so ago and lost eighteen pounds in three weeks. Then I ate a donut...or two. One spiral after another threw me right out and I had to make a concious effort to start over. So I did on Monday. I had gained five…
  • I like precooked frozen shrimp. Pour a bag into a bowl and microwave for a few minutes and you have 84g of protein with no carbohydrate and only 6g of fat.
  • MFP will not let you have a daily calorie count of less than 1,200. You'd be better advised using a TDEE or BMR calculator to find out her needs.
  • My ultimate goal is only 140, and I'm already 40 down, but if you want encouragement I'm willing to help.
  • I took a look at your diary and everything seems ok. Personally I have my carbs set to 5% or 19g/day because I want to be in ketosis. I have a ton to lose. When you do not have a ton to lose ketosis is not perfect at decreasing weight so it is not something you should force yourself to do if you're comfortable without.…

  • First off let me apologize. I meant to respond a few days ago but put the phone down and forgot entirely. Personally I love to learn. That's what interests me in intelligence. Everyday you learn something new or you apply what you've learned to a different situation. As to the focus I've always been a bit of a ship nut.…
  • Up your protein and reduce your sugar. The fruit spikes your blood sugar but does not really fill you up. Protein takes a lot longer to process leaving you feeling fuller longer. Also try keeping the yolks. Fat is incredibly important for stimulating the satiety hormone and eggs are loaded with good saturated fat. If this…
  • I used to be addicted to sugar and bread. After a few weeks the cravings just slip away. I've had a sweet every now and again since starting primal but I find I can control myself. Before if I had a donut I'd have the whole box or not be able to stop obsessing about them. It was like a smoker trying to quit by smoking just…
  • Overkill on cardio. The body can only get so much benefit from exercise at a time. What cardio does for you is burn glycogen in the muscles and glucose or ketone bodies in the blood. This stimulates the release of glucagon and reduces the overall energy stores of the body. Basically burns calories. However once you exhaust…
  • Probably going to get some hate for this but... ...try cutting out the carbohydrates. I was stalled for a very long time. I was doing hours of cardio a day and lifting weights but still never lost a pound eating at what mfp told me was required. I recently started a little to no carb diet called paleo. I lost eighteen…
  • I'm an EMT so blue collar medical. School is a killer. I gained fifty pounds when earning my bachelors. The good news is if it went on it'll come off. Just stick with it. Also it'd probably be a good idea to cut the alcohol. It's really a bad sugar.
  • I'm doing a modified C25K. Basically I'm doing the program thrice daily everyday for the week. I just finished my second workout on day two of week one. So far nothing's fallen off....
  • My goal is to lose 100 pounds of fat so I can enlist in the USMC.
  • He was there during the summer. They wouldn't let him use the pool.... Still he said it beats guard duty in a Kuwaiti roadside checkpoint.

  • My brother was deployed to Qatar for six months. He said the worst part, other than the sand, heat, lack of bacon, grueling work hours, and lack of his cat, was living in a trailer next to a four star resort....

  • Including recipes would be nice as well.
  • Hello, My names Seth. Looking to join either the Corps. or the Navy. Need to lose about one hundred pounds. S,
  • Meat and cheese for me. KFC had a funky idea a few years ago that was a sandwhich made by cramming bacon and cheese between two chicken breasts. Something similar should not be too hard to come up with.
