I use a curling rod I split my hair in to sections and curl each piece and sprits a little hair spray while each piece is curling I do this to my whole head And then after words, I run my hands through my hair and brush it lightly and it gives it that "soft waves" effect. Super easy! I do it every day :)

I don't have an answer for your first question But try rootbeer instead of water. It tastes great :D
