My coach put me on a powerlifting DUP focused around 5x 3,8,12 of a percentage of my 1RM... I just started it and it's royally kicking my butt, but getting better. I'm not completely convinced that the butt kicking isn't all mental. I'm looking forward to what comes and some serious gains.

265 1RM and that was 6 months ago... Should be over 300 by now, but I scared myself bailing on a heavy squat and now get in my head trying to max out. :-/

150 pushups for time. Everything you rested get up you had to do 6 jump squats. I scaled to 100 and did them on my knees, but it was still brutal. Yet I came back the very next day...

We did one a couple weeks ago (actually the WOD the completely wrecked my hip) that was 5 rounds of 100m bear crawl, 50 double unders, 30 situps. This was the first time I actually cried in the middle of a WOD. I did finish it though. The bear crawls completely thrashed my right hip and I've been out for the last 3 weeks…

UGH Advocare. There is one CF lady who works with my fiance who constantly pushes Advocare on him. It's a pyramid! One huge thing about supplements is they are not regulated in any way by the FDA and thus you really have no idea what is in them, where they are manufactured, of if any kind of peer reviewed studies have been…

For Christmas my father is helping my fiance put in a pullup bar (hanging from the studs in the ceiling) and another bar to hang rings from in the garage. (We already built a box for box jumps) He is totally stoked!

CrossFit Total 2 on Monday (11/12). Increased my total from a previous of 275 to Monday at 325. I was pretty happy with that! Bench Press - 110 OHS - 100 Clean - 115 Total - 325

We did Deck of Cards today... I purposely didn't before the WOD add up how many reps it would total. Have to say it was a good WOD. 84 reps each of squat, lunges, double unders, and situps. Plus 2 jokers thrown in there for good measure. Joker = 10 burpees Had you asked me 6 months ago to do 84 situps I would have laughed…

Haters just don't understand what they are missing. :-) Welcome to CF. Honestly, from what I've seen MOST CF people are the nicest and most encouraging group of people that will keep you pushed to your max!! If you were killing yourself with a bunch of rude douches would anyone really keep doing it???

Hahahaha that is great. It's a constant joke at our box because one of the girls (who is a total bada$$, BTW) always loses count and has to use counters to keep track of things. The other weekend when we had our competition we had an AMRAP in the 1st WOD and she freaked out right before the WOD because she couldn't find…

I'm in Houston but haven't heard anything about this. Do you have any details?

not a "diet" purely pyramid.

Don't hold your breath. Seriously, that is my advice. :-) I've been crossfitting for almost 6 months now and we just the other day realized that I feel like I'm going to pass out and die doing burpees because I don't breathe. So I do like 3-5 holding my breath and stop gasping for air. That doesn't work so well!!

Damn! We did this as a Saturday WOD last week and I totally missed it!! Grrrr Stupid getting home really really really like from a Journey concert!!

Welcome!! Glad you drank the kool-aid... hehe it's good for you :-)

I wear the inov-8 f-lite 195. They provide support and some cushiness for running and jumping yet are flat and good for lifting. Love these shoes. Also love the awesome colors!! http://www.zappos.com/inov-8-f-lite-195-black-orange-grape

Oh thank you google!! Trying to get rid of Candida overgrowth... I had visions of some strange fad diet where all you eat is yeast! Rule #1 in Infectious Disease... don't like the culture plates. :-) Carry on :-)
-
I'm afraid to ask what a Candida diet is. I'm a Infectious disease epidemiologist and work with Candida all time and can't even imagine a "Candida diet." Something sounds a little off to me.

Not all CrossFit gyms are like that. We have several coaches that watch everyone during the entire WOD and correct form as needed. Yes, they stress the "for time" but we also have numerous lectures about how "for time" should be with weights/exercises scaled so that we have a consistent pace and don't compromise form. Sure…

How would you do a KB swing with a dumbell? For hand stand pushups if you can't get inverted (which I can but I can't do the pushup part) we usually scale that back to a heavy seated shoulder press.
-
Pretty much you just start and do. All CrossFit WODs can be scaled for whatever your fitness level. Seriously, we have a 71yo woman that works out in our CF box, she has the coaches modify the workouts, but she gets he workout on and does it. If you are really interested, visit a local CF affiliate. You can find that at…

No our gym coach has started using it to track the entire box's WODs and PRs. Individually we are supposed to be able to go in and look at things and set goals, etc. So far I am not too impressed with it as I haven't found it very user friendly other than to compare myself to other people in my box. I have my own…

That is a great race pic! I like the helmet. I know it's functional and aerodynamic, but it just kind of looks awesome too! :-) Is it hot?

Here are 2 tutorial videos on kipping pullups that one of our coaches posted on our box's website. They show that "push away" pretty well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmiKMnu6Hr4&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL152B136D83EA84D6 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbtqX4ER2yk I'm still working on pullups... I will…

I also have a huge problem with my rack position (*sidenote - had I said that to anyone but CF people I'm sure that would get a few odd looks) in terms of wrist flexibility. I searched wrist on his site and came up with several videos.. hopefully it will help. :-)

Welcome!! My boyfriend and I have been doing CrossFit for about 5 months now (wow, where has the time gone). I know I'm getting stronger and my measurements are going down, but my actual weight didn't really drop until I did a Paleo Challenge with my CF box. Keep at it and have fun! I <3 my CF family for all the support…

I had planned on doing the Sprint at Towne Lake, but ended up opting out of it due to time and financial commitments. Somehow I managed to forget that I actually have to go back to grad school this fall... Planning on an Olympic in probably a year from now after I've finished my qualifying exams.

My box sent out this article the other day about scaling. It is actually a very good article and well worth the read! https://www.againfaster.com/en/blog/2012/01/13/zatsiorsky-scaling-and-power/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_content=scaling&utm_campaign=article
