Day 4!! Google Hangout tonight ... 7pm PST/9pm CST

I believe this should be the link to the Google Plus Hangout Event https://plus.google.com/events/cl9q2h08dsbhc6spoo62e4oluok?authkey=COXTg-Khp_Tc1wE Carol, I hope you can double check that this is correct since you've been doing this far longer than me :)

Anybody seen Nick past couple of days? Looks like we've already lost one after only the first day :(
-
Day 3 ... anybody remember when Nancy Reagan was the First Lady? "Just say NO!" to carbs :) ... embrace the butter and bacon!
-
Thankful for the much needed rain, 2.5" at our home since Sunday evening. Hopefully we get a good snow fall in the Sierra's.

OK, Day 1 of the December challenge. Another typical ULC day ... 5 more until CN.
-
Woo Hoo ... let's get ready to post!
-
In the "olden days" ... stocks were made using bones, while broth was made with (mostly) boneless cuts of meat. These days the terms 'stock' and 'broth' are used interchangeably ... especially since most people throw both into the pot these days. Now that I eat low carb I can't look forward to Thanksgiving leftovers, but I…

Hey, thought you amateur chefs out there might like to try this dessert. I've put it in Heron's queue :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJowaNqHk1A By the way, don't try to substitute artificial sweetener for the sugar. There's a lot of food science going on there with the egg yolks and sugar. It's only 1/2 cup in total…

I don't know that I would want to drink a whole liter of water during or right after a meal. I would probably want to wait at least 30 minutes after finishing. If you're going to do that, at least ensure it's at room temp.
-
Hmmm ... I should probably look into some low carb "bread" recipes for a substitute crust. Something like this might work. http://divaliciousrecipesinthecity.com/2013/08/27/flatbread-coconut-flour-and-psyllium/

Carol: I think you and Heron should see who can put away the most carbs on Thanksgiving ;)
-
Oh, WE are definitely having PIE this Thanksgiving >:) Heron's pies will be the main desert Thursday. So all is not lost. We skipped CN this past weekend so we can pig out on Thursday. Then no CN again until Dec. For our first December CN we're thinking a late lunch of Japanese Ramen at an awesome Ramen restaurant in town,…

Since when is a casserole considered to be a pizza? You all had my hopes up.

Perhaps you need to persuade them that you're not obsessing, rather trying to stay on the course you've set for yourself. Also, they're on the outside looking in ... and may possibly give you some insight into your behavior. Are you working harder vs. smarter? Lots of "healthy" activities are still stressers to the body…

Dr. Steven Gundry has been interviewed by both Kiefer and Jef Fry. Kiefer has also interviewed Dr. Rhonda Patrick and Nina Teicholz about their research and Nina's book. Dr. Gundry also has a book - "Dr. Gundry's Diet Evolution: Turn Off the Genes That Are Killing You and Your Waistline". I highly recommend listening to…

Something else I've found from listening to podcasts about low carb eating is that many of us who are sensitive to carbs also end up being sensitive to protein. So eating to much protein can also derail your progress. And there's been some studies and research done to support this. What Jef and I have discussed is not only…

Adding to what Heron has already said regarding our CNS journey and hiring Jef Fry. There is no silver bullet, and a lot of this is trial and error and experimentation on what works for YOU ... the individual. We don't have the luxury of doing blood work every week and monitoring hormones and blood sugar levels on a daily…

John (Hmrjmr1): Nov 24 - Dec 24th?? I thought Carol wanted to start a December Challenge which would start and end during the month of December? It's not much of a challenge if you stop on the 24th when there's still the 25th and the days leading up to the 31st ;) Carol: Take control of your Challenge! Lol It was your…

It takes a lot of will power to say no and not indulge when out with friends and family. They often subconsciously want to sabotage you by continually tempting you to cheat. Misery loves company ... and so do the guilty and unhealthy. I know because it happens to me. However I'm lucky in that my personality makes it easier…
-
Welcome back Carol! The prodigal sister has returned back into the fold :) Thank you for your courage and honesty … you're an inspiration to so many of us that struggle through our journey towards optimal health. It's not a newly paved level and straight highway … but a winding country road with peaks, valleys, and…

Hey Heather, thanks for posting about the CNS Facebook page. I'm definitely going to check it out.

The Carb Shock is meant for post work out nutrition and to be taken with a good amount protein, usually a protein powder like WPI. The key is to not ingest any food for an hour after the end of your workout (cardio doesn't count, we're talking strength training here). Then once it's been an hour you take your shake with…

If you don't have time to make your own tomato sauce, and looking for a good low carb off the shelf option ... try Rao's Homemade sauces from Rao's Specialty Foods, Inc. They only have 3-4g of net carbs per serving (1/2 cup). Their ingredient list are simple real foods, herbs and spices. For example: tomatoes, olive oil,…

Howie ... are you going to be emailing the invites for the hangout (20 minutes from now) ... or posting it on this thread? I sent you a MFP message last night with mine and Heron's email ... she has her own g+ account now.

Hi, mine is ARTURO ... a.k.a. "A.C. Dude" I'm also (as I often say) Heron's lesser half ... measured in terms of personality and character of course, not in weight. I have many miles to go before I sleep, or in this case before I lose my excess body fat and achieve a healthy body composition. It's a pleasure to…
