  • Not sure there really is a "best" but I like Silk the best as far as flavor and availability go. And each flavor & style variety has a light version so you have a bunch of choices to help keep you in your goals and tastes. We buy regular Silk for our son and I buy the light vanilla for my own use. Both are delicious, IMO.
  • Your problem is not the cost of food and hers is not the luxury of the phone/internet... your collective problem is communication with your spouse and priorities in life, family and marriage. I am not being mean- we used to be in the same place as you guys. You should look into the Dave Ramsey course called Financial Peace…
  • I would say the increase in food intake... you can't build a bunch of new muscle on a big deficit and I have read way too many stories of people gaining quickly after learning that they weren't eating enough and upping the food intake. Keep it up! (the food and the weights!)
  • Try this dumb bell routine... http://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/dumbbell-only-home-or-gym-fullbody-workout.html I was gaining on this routine- not as fast as the 5x5 but if you can gain a little or worst case just maintain then you are good to go. You can get a 110lb barbell set for under $70 and the dumb bell bars…
  • I had to have my ring resized- after 40 lbs, I couldn't keep it from falling off. It;s fast and cheap so even if you need to have it done a few times along your journey- DO IT! You will be upset with yourself for a long time if you lose it/them. Not to mention, it's literally like throwing away thousands of dollars.
  • Tiredness has an impact on workouts and overall health so as long as you don't have some chronic tiredness issue (if so see a Dr.) then listen to your body. I'm a firm believer in resting between workouts so I don't do consecutive days. Even running, since I took it back up I have been considering it a workout since I add…
  • Go Daddy was hacked... I had no email or fitbit for a while. In the past when one site or the other went down- it normally syncs back fine but once in a while, you have to re connect the two sites through the settings- disallow from MFP and reallow it to connect. Kind of works like a reboot. In the last 9 months, I can…
  • I don't bother tracking play time with my son... it's a blessing and a bonus so any extra cals I burn are just extra to any deficit. I work out hard enough and track the workouts that, those few extra cals won't change much.
  • Actually your body will do what you and your mind make it do... sometimes the comfort is in the mind and sometimes there is no comfort. But rest assured that when you embrace the concept of eating less and moving more (as in a true lifestyle change) your body will become comfortable in that routine. And normal will become…
  • In my younger days I was a mechanic in a bike shop... tips were fairly common. Like any non food server, the amounts varied greatly. But it was always great, as a tip was never "expected."
  • ran 10.25 miles this morning
  • It took me several months to like it... I kept at it because I was seeing good progress (in mileage and weight loss).
  • As a "40 something" out of shape guy, let me assure you that the C25K is the way to go... if you feel the need to repeat, by all means do so... What I would suggest, is to do each day until you can not complete a day as scheduled, then repeat that day as needed to keep up. You will be surprised at how quickly your body…
  • Most people aren't morning people... they are just in the habit of getting up early. You have to make the commitment to do it and then after a few days or weeks, your body will give in and start sleeping better and allowing you to go to sleep earlier, etc. But make no mistake about it- YOU have to make the conscious…
  • Since it's intermittent running/walking and different speeds, etc. Using a fitbit is the easiest (linked to MFP) because it will log it all for you, but for the same money you can get a good HRM. Both can be great tools, they just excel at different things. You really should look into buying one or the other.
  • Congratulations!! I still remember the day I completed my first non-stop mile. Great feeling!

  • When I have a weekend with out of town visiting family, I eat what they serve... usually put on 5 lbs or so- mostly water weight. I just drink extra water for a few days and resume normal diet/exercise and usually by Wednesday I'm back to normal. Rarely do I gain more than a pound, beyond water retention. You should…
  • Looks like your body just told you it's no longer considered a treat!
  • Got get a little blender or a "bullet" type personal blender. Makes all the difference in the world.
  • Also reminds me of why I love it... I enjoy my freedoms. :) Funny though, how the "rest of the world" sure likes our money and aid. We certainly aren't perfect, but we as a country, have given and sacrificed more to help those in need than any other country- many times over.
  • I lived in Canada (suburban Toronto) for several years, there is no more a guarantee of safety there than any large American city... the only real difference is that in in the US, you actually have the option of defending yourself. Your dog is your "weapon" as seen by a would be attacker.... Runkeeper will ONLY help your…
  • I 'think' there are a couple things you should look at. First, is your fitbit calibrated to your stride length? That can make a big difference. (in fitbit go to settings then personal settings to input stride lengths) Secondly, the MFP adjustment from fitbit never matches the time or activity- I think because fitbit only…
  • Optimum Nutrition makes 3 soy protein powders. (choc. vanilla, strawberry) and the soy protein is about 1/2 the price as whey at the same protein content per serving.
  • I think it's 2 things... the longest period of time since you ate last will be when you wake up and secondly, your body used up the extra water and you likely emptied your bladder upon waking up. (or during the night!) I fluctuate a few lbs during the day but always heavier as the day goes on.
  • I don't know which is better for fitness and health but mentally, running the 5 k without walking is goal to celebrate... and when you finally get there it is very rewarding. Sounds like you didn't repeat days/weeks if you couldn't run the run portions? If you can't jog the allotted parts, I think you should repeat from…
  • I developed left hip pain at about same mileage as you. I think mine was caused by compensating for my right foot (which I had surgery on last year) Anyway, I gave an extra day or rest between runs for the next 4 runs and my pain has gone away... I think it is my body getting used to the mileage and learning how to no…
  • Thanks all, the fact that most of you get it during the run leaves me hopeful that I'll get there with time and mileage. Until then, I'll motor on in this heat and humidity, longing for that day!
  • bump for several keepers!
  • I'm very allergic to poison ivy/oak/sumac and know exactly what you are saying.... but I think it's the sweating that irritates it, or the getting hot from exercising. Either way, another couple days and you'll probably be back to normal. Try swimming if you have access to a pool... the chlorine will also help dry out the…
