It hasn't been easy. I was having wine and ice cream almost every night thinking I was fitting it into my allotted calories for the day but probably underestimating my portions. I had a health scare about a month and a half ago and I changed my diet to avoid having surgery. It's amazing how when you train yourself not to…

We're having a Halloween potluck at work tomorrow. I'm bringing something relatively healthy instead of my normal baked goods. I'm hoping there will be some yummy salads but plan to bring a back up lunch in case there's not enough healthy food to eat. I know one meal won't break my success, but I'm planning to have my…

Great job!! I am also down this week and have met my October target. Just hope I can stay determined and hit my overall goal by the end of the year despite all the yummy holiday food that's just around the corner!!

I made No Bake cookies yesterday - the ones with cocoa, oatmeal, coconut, peanut butter and tons of sugar. My husband wanted something sweet to eat for the week. Typically, I will practically lick out the pan when I'm done making them. Although I was a little tempted, it wasn't too hard to resist and I stuck that pan under…

My vertigo was so bad this weekend! I think the added stress of my week made it worse. It's slowly subsiding but I decided to stay home from work today because it seems it's the worst mid-day....and I don't think driving while dizzy is a good move!

I'd love to keep going. I'm within a half pound of my October goal! I'd love to lose those final 10-12 pounds by the end of the year. This challenge is really helping motivate me!!

I'm down another 1.5 pounds this week. I've been following my healthier diet (no sugar, no caffeine, no alcohol, no processed foods) now for 30 days and plan to treat myself this weekend. Just a little something like a scoop of ice cream or a Starbucks pumpkin spice chai. Only 15 pounds to go to get to my goal…

Good to know - I'll have to try these!

WW - Great job!! I too am happy with my loss. I'm down to 178.5 - a number I haven't seen on my scale since March! I think I will try for another 5 pound loss for October as well. I'd love to get to my goal weight of 162 by the end of the year and it suddenly seems like an obtainable goal!! Keep up the hard work everyone!!

And how are you feeling so far? Usually about day 3 of a diet change is when I'm dragging, have headaches, etc.

I've tried homeopathic remedies plus Black Cohosh and Red Clover. There are different types of homeopathic options depending on your type of hot flash symptoms. Mine were better when I took Lachesis Mutus.

Three weeks ago I started eating better. I'm vegetarian but have a wicked sweet tooth and love my wine in the evening. I suffer from fibroids and one has gotten large enough my doctor wants me to consider my options. I do not want surgery of any kind and so I started researching healthy, natural alternatives - especially…

I've had vertigo this past year and wasn't sure if it was related to my changing hormones or not. It does seem to show up around the same time before my period (which, of course, is sporatic these days). I've been in perimenopause for at least 4 years or more. I did find the Half Sommersault maneuver helps those bouts of…

That is great news!! I am hoping by the end of October that I can fit into a few of my smaller sizes just waiting for me in the guest bedroom closet!

Good job everyone! I'm down another 1.5 pounds this week and 1.5 under my September goal. This has been a much better month - I didn't lose a thing in August. I'm continuing to cut out sugar, caffeine, processed foods and alcohol from my diet. I'm going to try to keep it up for a full 30 days then reward myself with just a…

Find some good vegetarian cookbooks and other resources to help you. When I went vegetarian more than 20 years ago, I started subscribing to Vegetarian Times magazine. That first year, I just gave up red meat, the 2nd year, poultry, and the 3rd year, seafood. I tried eating vegan years ago, but love to bake too much and it…

I said no to a pumpkin spice chai at Starbucks. I haven't had one since 9/8 and I'm reminding myself that they will still have them in two weeks after I've eliminated sugar and caffeine from my diet for a whole month!

I've managed to change my diet the past 2 weeks - cut out sugar, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods. I'm having a tough time with the sugar....but my success has been grabbing a honeycrisp apple when I get the craving. I figure it's better to get my sugars from fruit than from something processed like candy or pastries.…

I've been able to stay away from sugar, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods for almost 2 weeks. I made the change because I had a bit of a health scare. I'm not perfect - still have some caffeine in my green tea and the once-a-week cup of black tea - but now that my body has detoxed from the sugar and caffeine…

I started eating better about 1 1/2 weeks ago and the scale moved! I've hit my September goal - yay! It hasn't been easy, but I've eliminated sugar, caffeine, processed foods and alcohol from my diet - and I'm finally starting to feel better now that my body has detoxed somewhat! I hope to start adding in more strenuous…

That article rings true for me most of the time. The days I eat/graze throughout the morning, then have a 400-450 calorie lunch, I don't seem as hungry in the afternoon. If I can just eat a healthy salad for dinner (and skip the ice cream for dessert), the scale is my friend.

I'm back to where I started. I guess not tracking well the 2nd half of August sabotaged my efforts. Here's to a better September!!
-
I didn't track my food much the 2nd half of August. Guess what? I gained back the little I had lost!! Here's to a better September!!!!!

I stayed the same for weigh in day, then went up 2.5 pounds Sunday! And it isn't coming off like it was just water weight or misbehaving for a day or two! I'll just keep plugging away and hope by Saturday these extra pounds are gone!!!! This is the frustration I deal with - getting older and not being able to drop the…

I've done the Dr Oz 3 day cleanse in the past. I did lose a few pounds, but mostly it helped me get off all the sugar, saturated fatty foods and alcohol that I had been consuming in excess. You can find the recipes here: http://www.doctoroz.com/article/dr-ozs-3-day-detox-cleanse-one-sheet The lunch smoothie is gross in my…

A storm front moved in this afternoon. I'm blaming that for my being STARVING all day! Nothing seems to fill me up so I'm just trying to eat plenty of veggies and fruit, adding some protein and low fat dairy. I am enjoying a glass of wine at the moment and will most likely enjoy a bowl of ice cream later! :) Hope I can get…

I have this issue also.....the busier I am, seems the more tired I am. I make poor food choices and then just give up too easily. If I can just plan out my meals for the week and prepare them over the weekend, I have better success. Of course, then there's the lack of willpower that happens when someone says "let's go out…

I try to do much of my cooking for the week on Sundays - although it doesn't always work out that way! One of my go-to meals for weekly lunches is to make a batch of brown rice, setting it aside when done (you could use white rice or quinoa also). Then I cut up whatever veggies I have (onions, peppers, carrots, mushrooms),…

My favorite exercise is simple - walking the dogs. We live in the mountains so there's always some hill to climb on our walks. It benefits me and the dogs, gets me outside in the fresh air and gets me away from the TV and computer (which I get sucked into most work nights when I'm tired from the day). I do try to get on…

I try to keep high fiber, high protein, healthy snacks around to grab when I get the munchies. I also try to not eat so much at my main meals so I can enjoy snacks during the day. I also keep a pack of sugar free gum handy and use that to distract me from eating (or stop eating too much of whatever I'm snacking on).
