Used once every 2-4 weeks (especially when the scale appears to be "stubborn"), this may give you reason for satisfaction. Also, pay attention to your workouts and whether you're improving in endurance (duration, resistance or incline) or strength (lbs of weight used). These may not be as easily measured, but this…

Totally Agree!!!

This article only talks about HIT's benefits for insulin sensitivity and aerobiic (heart and lungs getting oxygen to body) fitness. Nothing about improvement to muscles, bones, energy benefits. It's a myoptic article that fails to mention the myriad of other purposes of exercise. It does not address the othe health issues…

Try changing the battery. Also, do you gently wash the strap after use and let air dry?

Whew! Lots of advice about your carbs and processed foods. I've got a nugget about the exercise end. You can still exercise and be kind to your feet and back. Light weights (or two large cans of beans) and exercise bands can be used to give arms, shoulders and leg muscles some work while you're adjusting your calorie/food…

I completely agree with your poem, so, why are you working on losing 131lbs?
-
I agree! Seeing measurements change is rewarding -- but only measure once every 3-4 weeks. Also, pay attention to your endurance levels... are you able to go a little farther or faster that last week? Can you lift a little more than before? All this shows progress even when the scale decides to remain silent.

Milk! It hydrates better than water, espeically during exercise. Lately, when not exercising, I'm drinking hot tea often.

You are STUNNING at 171! A heart-felt congratulations!!

<<< What you are saying is somewhat of a contradiction. Muscle has a higher density than fat. Yes and pound of fat and a pound of muscle would both weigh a pound. But, the fat pile to make up the pound would in fact be bigger than the muscle pound pile. It's why the water test works best for figuring out true body mass. If…

Truth be told, muscle has a larger specific gravity than fat (adipose tissue). A pound of fat and a pound of muscle both weigh a pound and, indeed, that pound of muscle will take up less volume than that pound of fat. But, muscle's specific gravity is 1.06 g/ml, while fat's specific gravity is 0.92g/ml. For the same volume…

To add more info to the discussion, a HRM (even Polar) cannot truly determine Vo2max (the ultimate in personalized measurements to determine calories burned at various heart rate levels). Vo2max is most accurately determined with the help of a professional, the wearing of a mask that measures your oxygen exhaled at…

If you like Charlaine's Sookie series, you might want to give Alexander Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series and JacquelynFrank's THe Nightwalkers series a try. They're both more "R" than Sookie Stackhouse.

I'm a SAHM who thought, during my college years and early career years, that I would work in the corporate world AND have the amazing (well-balanced, well-mannered, well-achieving) kids. I stopped working before marrying and having my three wonderful kids and simply cannot imagine being able to work and mother well. (Just…

This may sound lame, but it's what I've got for today: I'm proud that I exercised when I really didn't want to. Too often (pre-MFP), I could talk myself out of getting on my machine, but today, as much as I simply wanted to log my calories, I got on for an hour!

You need to lighten up on yourself. You only began not even ten days ago! We all want to see results immediately and we use the scale as the measure of success or failure, but know that the scale is not the only tool to determine improvement. Did you take inital measurements when you began? After 2-4 weeks, take…
