  • if it's too thick, add some water.
  • i skip the soy and add 1/2 cup of milk or other milk substitute and 1/4 cup greek yogurt (still include the protein powder). makes an excellent quick breakfast with some fruit.
  • yep, same here. the body is looking for energy and doesn't care where it comes from - food or sleep. drink some water and try to get a nap or at least a good rest the next night.
  • This and be patient. It takes time. Don't base your expectations on unrealistic "reality" shows like "The Biggest Loser".
  • Don't be fooled, the government is not over there to try and help people, it's there to protect oil interests.
  • Completely agree with this. Use the calculators, find your numbers, and use those. Before knowing what I know now, I went with MFP's numbers and I don't really think it was good for me. I lost weight, but now that I'm into maintenance mode and eating more calories, I think that the low calories were not really good for my…
  • True, but it would be a ridiculous amount of veg to eat enough for a calorie surplus, not impossible, but surely not easy to do.
  • I take fish oil for Omega 3, because I don't eat seafood. Other than that, I try to eat a balanced diet and get what I need from food. I'm due to go back to my doctor to get the results of recent blood work. I'm curious to find out how I've been doing and if there's anything I need to add.
  • Would love to hear how they turned out with almond milk....
  • Thank you for sharing! I'm not GF, but I like to find recipes that have as little wheat flour as possible to keep calories down and protein and fibre up.
  • Not sure if you're male or female, but here's a couple of books that are quite popular. There are groups for them on MFP as well. http://www.amazon.ca/New-Rules-Lifting-Maximum-Muscle/dp/158333338X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1363266657&sr=8-3…
  • This ^^^ and in most bread recipes you can safely (without affecting the rise) up to a third of the recipe's white flour with whole wheat flour. That will lower the calories slightly, but more importantly it will add more fibre and protein to the bread.
  • Get this book: http://www.amazon.com/The-New-Rules-Lifting-Maximum/dp/158333338X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362661136&sr=8-1&keywords=new+rules+of+lifting Or this book: http://www.amazon.com/The-Rules-Lifting-Life-Muscle-Building/dp/1583335137/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1362661136&sr=8-4&keywords=new+rules+of+lifting Or this…
  • I'll second that
  • I hear what you're saying. When the bad stuff that made you unhealthy is there, readily available, and you know how good it tastes, it's very difficult not to want to eat it all the time (whatever "it" is), even if you don't want to want it, sometimes you still do. I'm not sure "cheats' or treats are even the answer…
  • I gave up religion for lent
  • Wow! Glad I found this group. I'm not quite finished the book, just reading through the exercises right now. I'm excited, I used to go to the gym and enjoyed lifting weights, but that was over 10 years ago and haven't been to the gym in a while. I work out at home right now and have made great progress, but I'd like to do…
  • Totally agree with this - invest the time to make your own so you can control the ingredients and get the best nutrition for the calories.
  • I'm working on figuring that out. I estimate about $100/week for my partner and I, but I might be low as I love grocery/food shopping and was going 2-3 times/week. I'm trying to get the budget under control. I'm actually treating it kind of like counting calories. I'm going to save receipts and track what I actually spend…
  • Scam. People need to stop looking for the quick fix. blah blah blah lifestyle change blah blah blah eat whole, real food that's it.
  • Same here. I think when I added sugar to it, it caused problems for my weight loss, so now I'll either drink it black or with 2% milk. At one point I couldn't drink unsweetened coffee, it was just too bitter for me, but now, I'm actually enjoying the flavour of the coffee itself, buying a good quality brew helps.
  • I'd recommend Jillian's Extreme Shed & Shred. Kicks my *kitten* everytime. On days where I want to to "take it easy", but still get a good workout, I do Level I, on days where I have more energy, but maybe not as much time, I do Level II and then on days where I'm feeling extra energetic and looking for a real challenge, I…
  • LOL! Or any other line from that movie!
  • I always add protein powder to my oatmeal
  • I don't worry about sugar from fruit, it's natural and there's fibre, vitamins, and minerals in the fruit that are good for you. And as other's have noted, since MFP's recommendations don't distinguish processed sugars from natural sugars, the number is rather arbitrary. I keep an eye on added sugars in foods I eat and I…
  • 600 calories of most vegetables would be a lot of food, I know I would be very full after eating 600 calories of veg . 600 calories of junk is usually not that much food. what I'm saying is that it would be much easier to consume 600 calories of junk, but yes in the end 600 calories is 600 calories.
  • Coffee whitener/creamers = chemical/hydrogenated oil junk. "sugar-free" = chemically sweetened garbage. Just sayin.
  • People only change what and when they want to. They can't be told or made to change by anyone else. As much as I would like some of my family members to realize what they're eating is not in the best interest of their health, I realized that I have to concentrate on my own situation and hopefully they will see my example…
