I was just wondering about this today! I have intermittent pain around the top part of my ribs, and I think it's a pinched nerve because it does feel like a needle is stabbing me there. On Saturday night I unfortunately looked up my symptoms on webmd ( wouldn't recommend that. ever.), and it had all sorts of scary…

delco714--yep, need my albuterol! , and sometimes I do cough, but I no longer have asthma attacks like I did during high school when I played soccer. Lorinalynn--good points, I enjoy my muscle mass. I have powerful legs and I should be happy about that.

Interesting about the slow and fast twitch fibers. I remember hearing about those types, but didn't know you could convert a certain degree of them. I've got exercised-induced asthma, too, delco714....I just take my meds and I'm good, as long as I don't run in really cold, dry air.

Thank you for the responses! Especially medkid7, thank you so much for taking the time to write a lengthy reply and giving me some perspective! My health is the most important thing--you are totally right.

Right, I understand that there are tons of thin people out there who can't run. People can run because they train for it, of course. I am just wondering if a BMI on the high side of normal would hold me back, or if I trained hard enough, having a high-normal BMI wouldn't set me back or affect my time/distance. But as one…

I swear that Vitamin D deficiency must be a hypothyroid thing! Everyone I know with it has a deficiency, including me! I am willing to bet there's a connection that scientists haven't figured out yet ( or maybe they have, and I'm not aware of it).

Right, the higher the TSH, the more hypothyroid you are. The scale of "normal" goes up to 3 in some labs and 4.5 in others. The bad thing is that you can be or feel hypothyroid without having a TSH over 3 or 4. So, they might get your TSH to look normal, but you may still have symptoms. My medication had to be adjusted…

Gold's. The zumba/dance fitness instructor at mine is uh-maaaaa-zing and I joined just to take her classes. I also love to run on a nearby lake trail.

Thanks for the responses!

I do seen an endocrinologist, and she did mention last time that I'd have to have my dose adjusted, like you said happened with you. That is reassuring about the weight gain. My doctor said that I should lose some weight ( I'm around ten pounds overweight for my height, according to the BMI charts) before I get pregnant…

Croquettes ( pureed meat with a fried breadcrumb shell). My host mother in Spain would make us eat them. Chicken and "lobster" ARE NOT MEANT to be the consistency of mashed potatoes. Nope!! Also, cooked squash. Bananas. Squid.

Love this post! I often wonder about the people I see around me on the running trail and in my fitness classes--how they got to where they are in their fitness journeys.

In general, Zumba is great, but it depends on a lot of things: How intense the instructor is, how fun he/she makes it ( so you want to come back often), and how hard you push yourself. So maybe check out the dvds first, shop around for a class, and have fun! I lost 15 pounds and put on a ton of muscle ( I found a crazy…

Food dyes definitely cause hyperactivity. My mom wouldn't let me go NEAR yellow food dye when I was a kid because I was super hyper after ingesting it. I have had issues with red dyes, but it's mostly been rashes instead of behavior changes. Food dyes are scary things!!

I struggle with this! I've gotten to the point where I can't eat "just a little bit" and be ok with it. I didn't use to have this problem, so I'm thinking (hoping) I can unlearn this behavior...because I really don't want to give up sweets! I have to say, love the cat picture!
