POUND fitness and Insanity Live classes?
My gym will be offering both of these soon. Who's tried one or both, and what are your impressions?

It gets easier!
I just wanted to say--for anyone who's struggling with breastfeeding right now in the very beginning--that it does get easier. My son's latch was terrible at first. He was tongue-tied and also couldn't open his mouth very wide, so I had the snipping procedure done ( drs assured me that it wasn't painful for him, and it…

Young age of onset
I have realized lately that I was hypothyroid from a young age, maybe 10 or 11. I was cold all the time, very sleepy in school, and a few years later, had heavy periods. I was a little overweight even though my parents fixed healthy foods and I played sports. My hair came out in the shower all the time. I wasn't diagnosed…

Cutting calories and supply
I have maintained for two weeks, so I am going to lower my calories a little ( down to 1800-2000. I've been eating more). This may be a dumb question, but if I notice that my supply has tanked, I can eat more and it will go back up, right?

Someone explain why we shouldn't eat legumes
Ok, so I can see the reasoning behind eliminating grains and dairy, but I don't understand why eating lentils and beans would lead to negative health consequences. Someone who has gone paleo, please explain. I am curious.

Discomfort in old stress fracture area
Last summer I developed two stress fractures in my foot after getting into running too quickly. I wore a boot for a month and it healed. Fast foward to this fall--I had a baby 9 weeks ago and I got back into exercise ( Zumba and dance fitness--lots of jumping involved) after taking the last two weeks of my pregnancy plus…

Dairy products
Anyone cutting down on dairy or going dairy-free? I've been reading The China Study and it's made me question my reliance on milk and cheese as a major protein source. Plus I am a little lactose intolerant, so it will probably make me feel better!

Birth Control after baby?
What birth control method(s) are you planning to use after you deliver, or have you used in the past after delivering? I will be breastfeeding, so I guess I can't be on the regular BC pill. I'm thinking maybe the mini pill or an IUD?

jumping/running...ok?
I am 18 weeks and have been in an intense dance fitness class for a couple years now, going 3-5 times a week. The instructor has us do a lot of jumping ( like skipping rope motions) and jumping squats and things like that. My body is used to it by now, and I haven't felt any pain or dizziness, but everything I've read says…

Hypothyroidism?
Hi, I just wondered if anyone was dealing with hypothyroidism while pregnant. I have it, but have been on meds for a while and have been stable. My endocrinologist just increased my levoxyl dose from 88 to 113 ( two extra pills a week), and that seems to be going well. I'm on week 7. She also said scary things about what…

Best shoes for dance fitness, Turbofire, Turbo Jam, etc
I'm taking a really intense dance fitness class at my gym, and I just can't find the right shoes. I need something that is supportive and cushioned for all the jumping, jumping squats, and lateral moves that we do, and I also need the sole to move and not stick to the floor for the dancey moves that we do. I've tried two…

Cholesterol and thyroid
My cholesterol and thyroid seem to be really linked. In March, when I had bloodwork done, my TSH was 1.23 and my cholesterol was 167 ( HDL 65, Tri 49, LDL 93). This was really good news for me, because it had been up to 230. Last week I had more bloodwork done, and my TSH had gone up to 2.7 ( normal, of course, but higher)…

What causes our food preferences/weaknesses?
I've been thinking about this. Last night I had some mexican food and a margarita with friends at a potluck. I only took a few sips of the margarita, barely making a dent in it, even though it was very good. I just knew that it wasn't good for me and it wasn't worth the calories. I had no trouble pushing it away. However,…

How does low carb help?
I've seen some posts about how people with hypothyroidism should eat low carb, and I was hoping that someone could help me understand why. I will totally do this if it will help my thyroid work better or if it will help me lose weight easier, but I would like to know how exactly it helps, or hear stories from people about…

Foot pain
I do high-impact dance ( lots of jumping) and I also run, and I've been experiencing pain in my right foot recently. It's in two places, on the outer arch of my foot ( I can feel it pulling when I shift my weight to my toes), and also on the top of my foot ( I can feel it when I bend my foot to take a step). Nothing is…

Foods to eat for success?
I've seen a couple of posts here and there about the best foods to eat for weight loss success for people with hypothyroidism. I already avoid soy, and I try to limit foods such as broccoli, kale, strawberries ( yummy but goitrogenic ) . Should I also try to limit carbs from wheat and sugar? Has anyone had success with…

Is it necessary to be thin to be a strong runner?
I completed my first race this weekend, a 4-mile one. I was proud of my time ( sub 9 minute miles), but I was mostly in awe of the runners who were there doing the 10 mile race. I noticed that almost every single one of those runners doing the 10 mile race was thin. The four mile runners were very varied--many different…

Pregnancy and hypothyroidism
I posted this on the main board but I thought I'd post it here too: I am going to start trying to get pregnant this August or September. I'm 27 and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a few years ago. My levels are now "normal" with medication. My endo said she'd check my levels frequently. She also told me to lose some…

Pregnancy and hypothyroidism
My husband and I are looking to start a family this summer or early fall. I have hypothyroidism, and have been on medication for a few years now ( I'm 27). My levels are "normal" with medication and I feel like I did before I developed it. That said, I'm wondering if I will gain a lot of weight with my pregnancy or have…
