Foot pain

I do high-impact dance ( lots of jumping) and I also run, and I've been experiencing pain in my right foot recently. It's in two places, on the outer arch of my foot ( I can feel it pulling when I shift my weight to my toes), and also on the top of my foot ( I can feel it when I bend my foot to take a step). Nothing is swollen or looks any different, and there's only slight soreness when I touch the top of my foot and press down. Nothing hurts on the bottom of my foot when I press it.

I know that I will probably have to go to a doctor to get a true diagnosis, but if anyone had any ideas, I would love to hear them.

With feet, there is so much going on that it would be impossible w/o a professional looking at it to tell what's going on. A lot of foot pain depends on the type of pain, can actually be caused by your ankle or calf as well. I roll my feet on golf balls regularly, as well as to lots of foot stretching and strengthening. I wear things to spread my toes to avoid getting neuromas. It could really be your shoes. Watch out for any dr that just tries to put you in orthotics as the ultimate fix. It's a habit that many DPM have gotten into, not always the perfect answer they tell you it it. I like out of the box thinking myself, like massage therapy or chiropractic work on feet prior to taking an orthotic jump. I worked for a DPM for numerous years and am pretty picky.

I have been dealing with top of the foot pain in my right foot. Doc said it is nerve pain. No apparent cause other than to not lace shoes too tightly. May go for a cortisone shot at some point. Agree with other poster, rolling on golf balls or something similar may help. After a year of resisting orthotics (with metatarsal pads) I got a pair from the doc (not custom) and they have helped tremendously! Good luck!
