Pregnancy and hypothyroidism

My husband and I are looking to start a family this summer or early fall. I have hypothyroidism, and have been on medication for a few years now ( I'm 27). My levels are "normal" with medication and I feel like I did before I developed it.
That said, I'm wondering if I will gain a lot of weight with my pregnancy or have lots of trouble losing it afterward. Or if I will have other difficulties with my pregnancy relating to hypothyroidism.
To anyone who's had a baby and was diagnosed before you got pregnant, what were your experiences like?

I've been hypo since 22 and have had 2 babies (I'm now 36). My weight gain was totally average. I did see an endocrinologist while pregnant for closer monitoring (usually my GP takes care of it), which is very important for brain development and reduces risk of miscarriage. During the first tri you get tested every month, and my dosage increased quite a bit. Then tested once during the second tri, once during final tri, and again 6 weeks after birth. Now, I am being retested again because my last test indicated my dose is too high (previous dose was determined while still nursing) so it looks like I'm headed back to pre-pregnancy dosage.

    Hope that helps!

I do seen an endocrinologist, and she did mention last time that I'd have to have my dose adjusted, like you said happened with you.
That is reassuring about the weight gain. My doctor said that I should lose some weight ( I'm around ten pounds overweight for my height, according to the BMI charts) before I get pregnant "in case put on a ton of weight." So I found that a little disconcerting, although I am working to get to a healthy BMI.

With DD, I was thin when I started (130 lbs at 5'4") and put on a fair amount - around 40 lbs. To be fair though, she was over 2 weeks late and around 5 of those lbs were the last 2 weeks alone. AND I ate a lot, lol. With DS I started about 10 lbs heavier and put on less, and gave birth at pretty much the same final weight as the first time.

With DS I was within 8 lbs of goal weight by the time he was 3 months, but then went back to work and lazy about exercise and put 15 back on, so here I am today.
