  • Burgen is a good choice (I'm from NZ, but I'm pretty sure you get Burgen in Aus...??). Full of wholegrains, etc, so it'll keep you feeling fuller for longer, and comes in at about 180 calories (depending on the particular flavour you buy), for 2 slices of the 'toast' bread :)

  • I use Tri-Action by Triumph, not sure if you get that brand in the UK? I've heard amazing things about Shock Absorber bra's, though, which I've seen online starting at about 19.99 (pounds) from here http://www.boobydoo.co.uk
  • I'm another one in Hamilton
  • Agreed. Maybe try checking out your weekly totals (in Reports) to see how you're doing over that period of time. Going over for 1 day if you're under a little bit each day for the rest of the week, you'll balance out easily.
  • Sorry - mis-spelled! "Berms". its when a corner is banked up on one side. If a corner is bermed and you "use the berm", you'll swoop through a corner alot faster, but the berm will obviously tilt the bike on an angle and you have to counter-balance (and keep your speed up!) so you don't fall off. If you steer through the…
  • I don't really road ride, but I do MTB ride. As far as my pedals go, I love Egg Beaters by Crank Brothers. They literally look like an egg beater, and come with special cleats, the beauty of them being that you have 4 points of access to clip into the pedal, not 2 (or worse, 1, as mentioned with the LOOK pedals). More…
  • Do you lift with free weights or use machines? Either way, sometimes certain exercises can have a "bulking" effect on your muscles, while others have a more "toning" effect. Like, if you're using the leg raise machine, for example, and are kicking with your feet pointed straight out, you will be bulking up your quads. Turn…
  • You're not at all alone. I know exactly how you feel. It's been a really long slow weight loss process for me, and while I know thats the healthy way to do things, and will make my weigh loss a maintainable life change... I still feel like the same old fat girl. I see old pictures of myself, and I know I don't look like…
  • The only time I have negative net calories is when I work out first thing and log my exercise before I've had anything to eat for the day! But you shouldn't go whole days on negetive net calories...
  • Agree, a good HRM would be nice, then when he starts lifting he'll have a much better idea of calories burned (I find MFP under-estimates cals burned lifting). My Dad gave me a pair of Skins compression tights for my last birthday, and I love them. Everything feels all tight and pulled in when I run in them especially. As…
  • Either flatbread or Honey Oat 6" Veggie Delight with smoked cheese, no tomatos, double pickles and honey mustard sauce... yummy :)
  • I'm 5'6", but at my heaviest I was 187lbs. I started a real focussed weigh loss mission at 176lbs and am currently sitting at 133lbs with my final aim to get down to 121lbs. It's been a long process for me, and I've had to modify my strategy as I've gone along. At first, in mid 2009, I went to see a nutritionist and joined…
  • Yeah, I think the rider was out of order. I ride a river-side path myself, it's winding and there are often walkers, runners, children and dogs. I could ride a lot faster than I do when I ride this path, but because I don't want to injure myself or others, you have to ride slower and a little more defensively. I think you…
  • According to MFP my BMR is 1359, and I'm 27. I know it does reduce with age, but it also reduces by what you weigh. Also, other BMR calculation methods figure it out differently. I saw a link on here yesterday to www.shapefit.com/basal-metabolic-rate.html which calculates my BMR at 1411, compared to MPF's 1359, and…
  • I had trouble with my HRM picking up signal when I first got it, and it took some trial and error to figure it out. I need to use a gel to get mine to pick up my heart rate, and it tends to drop the signal if I'm under 100BPM at all. Also, mine won't work if I'm wearing an underwired bra... It sounds like a dud HRM, but I…

  • I love bike riding! I hadn't done it for years until I met my BF and he got me into Mountain Bike racing. I have a MTB track only 5km from my house, and they run weekly summer series races and in winter they do night races where you spotlight with a lamp (I haven't done those yet! Bit scared!!). I'm not really that…
  • I agree. While I'm in my losing phase (i.e. - right now!) I just remind myself that this is only a small sacrifice to get to where I want to be, and once I'm there and maintaining it, those infrequent treats will be fine.
  • I usually have a low-cal hot chocolate (under 50 cals per serve). Satisfies my sweet tooth and knocks the hunger pangs on the head :)
  • Me too! I've lost 14lbs since joining this site in January, but I still have another 13lbs I'd like to lose to get to my goal. Anyone who would like to add me, feel free :)
  • The loose skin is what bothers me most. It's mostly on my stomach, a little on my upper thighs and upper arms. I guess it kind of frustrates me because I know I've done such good things to improve my health and fitness, and it kind of feels like the skin is never going to firm up. I was overweight, but not obese... but I…
  • I agree with the pro-sweets people who have posted above :) If I have calories left at the end of the day, I'll have an after dinner treat. I figure this is a lifestyle choice, and if I'm actually going to stick to it for life, I have to be realistic. And in reality - I love sweets WAY to much to never have them again! I…
  • I guess the most accurate way to find the difference between the two exercises would be to use a HRM and compare the calories burned between the 2 after the fact? Assuming you're the same weight, cycling (or running) the same distance at the same pace, I would think you would burn the same calories irrespective of your…
  • That is amazing! Congratulations, the transformation already is really impressive :)
  • I go through phases depending on if I'm feeling sweet or savoury... at the moment I'm feeling sweet and loving yogurt. If I'm feeling savoury, it's salada crackers with vegemite... mmm...
  • My weight loss has been so progressive, I think I slowly forgot how bad I was. But when I look at pictures taken of me from my late teens / early twenties I shudder! I just look at myself and think "why did nobody tell me I looked like that?". But I've had friends tell me since I've lost weight that they "never thought of…
  • As everyone has said, yes you can lose weight by just counting calories, but if you want to work out at home, quietly so you don't disturb your neighbours trying searching google or youtube for at home workouts. There are 1000's available online that provide ideas for at home, no equipment required workouts that use your…
  • Me too! I'm 27, been on MFP since the start of January and 13lbs down, but started my overall weight loss journey a couple of years back on my own and have lost 51lbs overall so far. Looking to lose another 25lbs still! Add me if you like :)
  • The more teabags, the stronger the brew, so I guess you could potentially get twice the benefits... I'm not sure though. The longer you brew green tea for the more bitter it becomes. I drink about 6 cups of Chinese Jasmine Green Tea everyday, and love it (got hooked on good Jasmine Tea in China - you should try it, it's…
  • If I have too much wheat or too much dairy I get bloated. Especially proper milk or cream...
  • I love yoghurt pots at the moment - A LOT!!. Museli bars (not chocolate coated ones, obviously!), crackers with vegemite, sour cream and chives flavoured rice wafers...
