  • Petty reason is to wear a shirt tucked in. Not so petty is I'd like to get a doctor to see something besides my weight. I have a lot of other health issues that are never really addressed because they can't get past the weight. Even though I believe I've gained the weight in part BECAUSE of the health issues.
  • I read this article and it resonated with me. I have several health issues that either affect my diet or would be helped by weighing less (fibro, interstitial cystitis, glaucoma) and my doctor has no time for me. I am 40 pounds overweight, very short and hover around the 'obese' 30 BMI for years. The last doctor I had…
  • I'm rowing in the same boat. Two weeks in and keep fluctuating the same two pounds. I am doing light strength training (can't do what I used to - I have glaucoma so higher reps/lower weights). It can't all be muscle. I'm feeling 'squishy' in my middle though and pants seem to come up over easier. Are you experiencing that…
  • I'm 47, in low 170's need to be in low 130's. 5 foot 1 inch. Doing 16:8 intermittent fasting mainly so I won't overeat my 1200 calories. Two weeks in and I might be 2 lbs down but my weight fluctuates terribly. I'm doing strength training and have always walked and swim so still doing that. My back went out (again) and I…
  • I've lost 15 lbs but no inches from waist and face is still fat. I am down a pants size, which is odd. It's almost like the area below my waist and my hips are smaller, but apparently not my waist. The last time I lost this much weight (other than post-pregnancy) I followed the same pattern. I guess it's just our thing. At…
  • My thyroid is normal but along the borders. I am also 'prediabetic' and am under the same dr's orders as you. I got horrible headaches at first, and migraines with nausea. Started taking a NOW supplement, Thyroid Energy and it has helped. But probably a good Vitamin B supplement would do the trick.
  • Same here. Gained 3 last week with TOM and down only 2 of those. I guess it's just a pound and weight does fluctuate but it's hard when I've seen it only go down - albeit slowly - the last few weeks! Trying to up the water but then I'm in the ladies room ALL the time! Good luck!
  • I've always skipped breakfast and not eaten after 8pm. Got 30 pounds overweight while doing that. I don't think IF is the whole story, I have to restrict calories. In my case I've also excluded bread/pasta/rice/potatoes - I guess that's low-carb but sometimes I end with a lot of carbs from veggies/nuts. I'm not sure meal…
  • Yep I just feel bad that it was so carby! I haven't eaten a piece of bread/pasta/etc in over 3 months and I feel so much better. No flares in my condition at all. Hopefully this won't set it off.
  • Yep @janejellyroll I need to have a backup snack. This meeting was outside of the office but I need to keep one in my purse or something. Good idea!
  • Yeah they were already eating it as I was doing the handouts! I guess I need to not sweat the small stuff. Thanks for listening.
  • I don't count calories. This is a lifestyle change for me and I'm not doing anything I can't maintain in the long run. I did the first couple of months so I have an idea of what I'm doing. I didn't lose anything the first month so I got frustrated and quit once I started losing. But I can't quit the lifestyle or this…
  • This is so weird! When I quote you @cushman5279 - it says you said you have a 'sh**-load of energy', not 'kitten-load'. I have a kitten. I want a kitten-load of energy!!!!
  • 5'2'', 46 and need to lose 22 more!
  • I had trouble at first, plus bad migraines and nausea. Started taking a Vitamin B supplement and it has helped. YMMV.
  • Try strength training, I'm the same height but 20 years younger, and had to regain some muscle tissue (it is metabolic) before I could lose any weight. Went a month like you did with nothing. Also since you don't have much to lose, you won't be able to create the deficits needed to lose at a pound a week with 1200 calories…
  • @lynn_glenmont is on to something about muscle loss. I am 45 and didn't start losing consistently until I rebuilt the muscle tissue that had been lost. I was pretty muscular when I was younger (genetics + swimmer), and since muscle is metabolic tissue my body was just being stubborn and wanted it back before it would…
  • You look great! @pariskathryn - The same thing happened to me last month. The night before I ate a piece of cheesecake at my daughter's bday, horse races the next day where I ate a huge sandwich and drank a margarita - and voila by Sunday was down 1.5 lbs. Don't understand and know I can't go back to those ways regularly…
  • I agree - Where's the fat?
  • I agree with valerie on strength training. I started out on a 'plateau', didn't lose anything for first month or so of going lower calorie/low carb/treadmill/walking. Started strength training and now am losing a little .5/lb a week, I'm short too (5-1) with about 35 pounds to lose total. I am 45 years old, started out at…
  • things I've already done: getting my health to the point I can exercise regularly climb the towers of Notre Dame - HUGE in a size 10 - from a tight size 12 things to do: ditching the 'obese' premium for my health insurance getting rid of one of the chins not hating the pics my teenage daughter takes of me…
  • It's hard to tell even with an elimination diet. I thought it was gluten that was bothering my stomach, bladder (interstitial cystitis) and other female issues. Going gluten free helped tremendously but in my case it wasn't gluten per se - but a yeast issue - and I get that with any kind of bread/pasta/sugar…

  • This! Read this over and over. Tape it to your wall, fridge, phone or all three! I had a toxic relationship with my father, not over weight loss but how to parent a troubled teen, and once I let go of needing his approval (and thinking I needed his financial help with those problems), somehow things starting working out.…
  • Mine were too- I changed mine to the Zone diet recommendations -40% carbs 30% protein and 30% fat - and now I'm low on protein under those guidelines. Still working this out less than a week in...

  • Yep, I'm a newbie but I do the 'Just Sweat - Walk Mode' and log the exercise as 'Walking 3mph - walking the dog'. I'm pretty sure I'm burning more calories than walking my dog and that's saying a lot - I have a Border Collie!
