Don't scrap the Lenten tradition, it's a nice thing to hold on to. I am also Catholic but have not been as active lately. I always give up chocolate which I love. It's hard every year but like you, I find ways around that sweet tooth. This year it seems i'm going after anything that will curb the chocolate, like eating…

Thanks for the answers. I think this time around I wanted to concentrate on lowering body fat as opposed to the scale but seems I need to watch the scale as well and may not be lowering my caloric intake as much as I should even though I work out. I'll concentrate on my food choices for now.

Anyone saying they eat one meal a day sounds misleading. Maybe you have one rounded meal a day but how many times to do you eat thru-out the day?

Sugary drinks such as sweet tea. Switched to unsweetened tea with lemon. It took a while since I LOVE sweet tea but now I only drink it unsweet, but always with lemon.

This is a perfect match for me today as well, especially the food struggle. I think I'll follow your "just for today".

Free weights but on lazy days I will use the machines.

The biggest thing is watching how much you eat. To me that's also harder then getting in some exercise. Try to eat good for atleast 80% of the time and get regular workouts. Strength training is excellent at weight loss and helping to burn calories longer so if you can do this try for 3 times a week and add some cardio as…

I always want baked goods or chocolate so I am trying to help the sweet tooth craving by eating flavored yogurts. May not be the best calories but definitely less then a Twinkie and better for me with the calcium and cultures. Some of the new flavors are pretty good. I don't buy the fruit on the bottom ones though.

Just for today: I will eat better than I did yesterday. I will do my running exercise on the treadmill per the instructor. I will keep a positive outlook on my progress.

I'm holding hope to this!

I find it's harder to lose weight because it is hard for me to accept that I have to eat less (I like food) then I could even 5 years ago to just keep my current weight, let alone lose. I do agree that for women, going thru menopause does make a difference. So in my opinion, it is harder because of the mental challenges…

I'm just starting to post in the Forums and have very few friends on MFP. As a few others have mentioned, I only accept FR from those I think can benefit me or I benefit them or their comments I see on the forums are interesting to me. I'm not one to post very much so chatting with people about things that aren't closely…

This is similar to my routine. 10-12 reps at highest weight I can do for 3-4 sets with the goal of increasing the weight as I get stronger. My goal is some strength and overall muscle toning. I would like to log this in MFP just so I can keep track of my workouts. Is there any way to enter it under Weight Training as a…

Dwhite1201: Unfortunately you can't eat the same way now that you are going thru menopause. You need to change the things you eat and should be doing some sort of moderate exercise. It's hard to get moving if you don't really want to but you need to force yourself so that you miss it when you don't do it. Walking is a…

I just started an 8 week running group for beginner thru advance with a trainer at the gym to prepare for a local 5k that the gym helps sponsor. Sunday was our first run. Uphill, down hill, repeat. 2 miles. I went pretty slow, walking in some cases and I can say it felt good and I was not overly sore the next day except…

What do you do when you really want chips to go with that turkey sandwich?

I'm on hearing reading threads when I should be working (I'm at work right now).

You will love it. I tried Loseit at one point and switched back to to MFP. The reports are much better that you can print out and you can customize you're eating times on here as well.

I feel like you. I was not angered by his blunt comments because he did say he was going to rant but I hated the end of his post. Mainly this part: "Show some self control, and if you can't then you don't deserve to be in shape. Your body will react to how you treat it.Lack self control? You're going to be fat and deserve…

Oh wait, I just checked the little star and they are bookmarked there so that will work fine for me.

I did click on the little star because it says bookmark hoping I can find it that way but yes, I agree, it's a shame there is not a way to follow a thread. Some of them are interesting and I would like to go back and read them later but I don't necessarily want notifications and searching for them is much harder than you…

Me too! Last year this time I lost 10 lbs in 2 months (Feb/Mar). Sadly I went back to poor eating habits from the summer until now and gained it all back. So far working out for 3x a week has only netted me a 1 lb loss since Feb 1. Would love to hear how you all stay on track with your eating. I did get away from tracking…

South East PA here. Looks like I'll get the warmer weather before some of you. I can't wait for it to warm up for good.

You sound just like me. I am 52 and this time last year I tracked my food and lost weight all while working out but when I stopped and went back to eating whatever I gained most of it back. I am still working out but realize at this age that it's the calories that count so I am going to start tracking on MFP again and add…

Lohkin, Thank you for posting a picture. I have those containers and always wanted to put items in that I would have to reheat. I like your no cook ideas.

If you do decide to order out, which I do on occasion, I get chinese food because it's located on my road. Green beans with chicken. Tell them to saute only with soy sauce. I will sometimes eat just a little rice with it to help fill me up.

Today I had a serving of Dole chopped salad plus tuna fish (not in the same bowl). We have a fridge/toaster/microwave at work so I usually bring deli turkey and make a sandwich on 100 calorie thins and keep bags of freezer veggies that I can microwave. Also other healthy snacks and also sometimes leftovers from home like…

Great Thread! I will take the time to read everyone's comments. Thanks OP for this question. I am hitting it now at age 51 and will enjoy reading others success stories.

Keeping the food journal on MFP was a big eye opener for me. I think it made a huge difference at the start of my transformation to see on paper what I actually ate during a day. At the same time i started tracking my food I did join the local gym and started to weight train 3x times a week. I don't have much motivation…
